A long time ago (but not too long ago...), in a galaxy far, far, away (but not too far away), the planet Earth as we know it has become populated almost to the point of breaking through the sheer number of bodies alone. At least it would have been, had it not been for the Planetary Governor – a shadowy figure who's true identity is unknown to all but the worlds leaders – an individual that has sent colonising missions into the void of space on specifically manufactured 'wagon trains'. So far none have returned, nor made contact with their home-world, but this is not something that has stopped all efforts to save the Earth from killing itself.

On Earth it is the year 1867 - the American Civil War ended two years ago, Queen Victoria sits on the throne of the United Kingdom, and Imperial ruler ship has returned to Japan in the form of Emperor Meiji; this is a world much like our own, but not, where technology has advanced and yet regressed, where wars are fought with technology based on directed-energy, where surgery is performed with titanium scalpels, and where carts are drawn by mechanically altered beasts of burden.

It is also an Earth on which each family or individual – or at least your own – has, for their own inscrutable reasons, been given enough assistance and funding by the Governor (or one of the many monarchs or governments in the world) to build for themselves a transport 'wagon' that will take them into the atmosphere and beyond; these are small vessels, most only able to carry the essentials of those that build them, shielded but generally unarmed, and it is with these that a new colonisation effort is only days away from taking place.

You are part of that effort, but whether you make it back alive, settle another world, or die in the attempt will depend on all of you.

Welcome then to this RP,

As you may be able to tell, it is set on an Earth not unlike our own but still very different, sci-fi mingled with history if you will. Think of outer space as 'the Wild West', for in this case that is what it is, undiscovered lands ripe for the settling, plundering or to be afraid of by all. Your character (or characters, depending on if you wish to form a family unit or not), will most likely have some form of profession/skills that make them applicable for this journey – whether that be a Doctor, an animal trainer, a soldier or so on.

I will be accepting characters from pretty much all/any nationality, religion and background, but in turn you as the player will need to do your research! Every nation has followed their historical path here, Queen Victoria is still Empress of India, the Japanese have just got an Emperor back and the Americans are recovering from their own bloody conflict.

Please do ask questions if you have them though, that's what I'm here for!

And if anyone wishes to volunteer for Co-GM duties, then you can ask for that too.

Here is the Character Sheet, please PM it to me and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Eh voila, if you do have any question(s) then do ask; I'd rather you did that than just not bother and end up getting things 'wrong'.

Gracias.

Just a quick question!

How historically accurate are we being in regards to clothing, technology etc? I.e., the camera exists, but it would nowhere be portable in the real 1860s. Would the advancement in robotics and machinery gives us some leeway in that regard?

@Za Warudo Gooood question, actually...

As accurate as you can get in terms of clothing etc, but feel free to make flourishes and differences, so - taking your example of the camera - they'd probably be exactly the same but with digital chips/photo quality in/to them, with zoom-in and out lenses, and so on and so forth. Could possibly be on tracks as well, with a case made of something modern and hard, and so on and so forth.

Does that help?

Feel free to come up with things yourself, that goes for everyone.

I've got my character concept! Gonna go with a native American character. EDIT: Maybe. If I can research to the point where I'm confident enough about it.

Gotta do a bunch of research, though. Get back in touch with my distant ancestry.

@Za Warudo and @Dogematix, you both seem to have not read that part, but I'll let you off; please don't post in the actual Character Tab until your CS is accepted.

I see it says Apply and hasn't started yet. Might I jump in? I saw the int check and got hooked. Cowboys in space is pretty much the best. Also, love the historical focus.

I do have a quick question though, what is the status of things like cybernetics?

@Big Dread Good question....

I'd leave that pretty much up to the discretion of the player - cybernetics and advanced electrics are pretty common, but not in the way they re in Warhammer 40k, I.E. A guy who loses a limb may get it replaced by a cybernetic one, but it's doubtful that any God-fearing persons would go actively seeking to become more robot and less human. Then again, it also depends on your wealth and rank within society, I.E. A Russian peasant or African Tribesman would be much as they are today, while a Monarch would have access to all the 'good shit'.

Does this make sense at all?

Makes perfect sense! Gotta have that good tech vs religion angle! Cybernetic augmentation would be a type of playing God and thus would be dastardly! However, I think cyber-cowboy might just be a way too awesome concept to pass up. XD

@Big Dread I've no problem, as long as he isn't more than a quarter cybernetic - so no Terminator or Cyborg cowboy. Altered to be better, no problem, but a proper cyborg is a no-no...at the moment.
