Type:
Both national (US) and corporate (New Horizons Corp). Nationally funded and supplied, but corporately developed, launched, and staffed.

Base on Earth:
New Horizons Corporation (The baby of a unity of NASA and SpaceX- acts as the new NASA), USA

Philosophy:
This is the new frontier- it's humanity's place to colonize the stars. There are new places to explore, research, and settle.
Primary goal: Establish itself to be a major power on Gaia, if not the supreme power.
Secondary goal: Form "ITO," or the Interstellar Treaty Organization, as a replacement of the NATO of old.

Leadership:
Democratic Republic- Autonomous from Earth
- Works via vote. The 'Council' is a group of five- Councilman of Expansion, Research, Defense, Resource, and Diplomacy. Each member is voted in; on occasion, when disagreements are high, they turn to a general democratic vote to solve disputes.

Religion:
Largely atheist, actually. More religious people never really agreed with New Horizons- only a few Christians are on board.

Misc:
NASA was operating with less efficiency, and SpaceX was operating with more. Simply put, the US- which had weathered the calamities that caused the breakdown of other nations- was eager to reestablish itself as the greatest World Power- by becoming the greatest World Power on another world as well. It had long since lost its supremacy over other nations- though it still had the most powerful military- and more or less forced Space X and NASA to combine- much to SpaceX's excitement and the dismay of NASA. The newly created New Horizons was tasked with gaining a foothold in everything interstellar- such as Mars, Ceres and Gaia. And largely succeeded.

Philosophy:
The colonists feel as if the planet is merely a new place to be conquered, a new land to be exploited and claimed for the glory of human civilization. They view the wildlife and fauna may only get in the way and may wish to exterminate them should they pose a problem.

Leadership:
Ruled via the Korean Monarchy on Earth

Religion:
Majority no religion.

Misc:
Korea is a nation that came to fruition upon the military annexation of North Korea by South Korea in the Korean Unification War. The old government of monarchy was re-established, joining the club of a dying government type. They colonists were sent to Gaia as a means to bolster themselves and hopefully become a major power in the eyes of other governments on Earth.

Name: Nuevo Arauco

Type: Settlement colony

Base on Earth: Santiago, Chile

Philosophy: La directiva, the governing protocol of the Chilean Expedition, demands ethical treatment of all extraterrestrial organisms found in the Gaia Secundus system and provides for xenobiological study in order to become better acquainted with the new home of the Chilean people. However, colonial safety and well-being take precedent over the alien biota. Activities detrimental to the native wildlife such as clearing undesired brush and destroying hostile predators posing a clear threat to colonists are permitted.

Leadership: Due to the communications delay between Earth and Gaia Secundus, it was apparent from the beginning that the day-to-day decision making of the Gaia colony would have to occur onworld. The Chilean government selected a temporary administrator to act on behalf of the government on Earth. Javier Faustino, esteemed hero of the Antarctic War, was chosen for this critical post.

Religion: Although most of the colonists are Roman Catholic, the Chilean Expedition is an expressly secular enterprise.

Background: As Earth's lower latitudes baked under a soupy, carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere, humanity retreated to the colder reaches of the planet. Russian Siberia was trampled underfoot by a billion Chinese and Indians fleeing the intolerable heat, famine, and erratic weather patterns in their countries. Subsaharan Africa drained into South Africa and Namibia. In South America, the people of Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, and others poured into the relatively-mild Southern Cone: the southern tip of Chile and Argentina. As both the southernmost South American nations staggered under the weight of millions of refugees, the Chileans and Argentines began to look across the Strait of Magellan for solutions. Antarctica - particularly the northern reaches of Graham Land - had become rather mild due to the intensifying climatic shift. Both Chile and Argentina established settlements and research outposts in overlapping claims in the Antarctic. Competition quickly escalated into military conflict when Chilean and Argentine aircraft attacked one another over Antarctica, and the confrontation snowballed from there. Chile was soundly beaten and would have been utterly vanquished if not for the daring efforts of Captain Faustino. Bloodied and deprived of her antarctic lebensraum, Chile looks to the stars for a new homeland.
