The College Life of Nonhumans

Twenty years ago the world at large found out that many of the mythological beings they had heard about were real. Humans were still 90+% of the population, though Pure Humans only made up about 1%. They also found out that almost all humans could gain paranormal powers like the non-humans tended to have, but the were dormant until something triggered them to awaken.

Society was integrated, and nonhuman began living and working beside humans. There were problems, though, as humans expected them to be like the stories said their race was. There were even a few cases where "demons" were killed by people either for prejudicial or religious reasons.

We are nonhumans which go to East Coast City University. College life isn't immune from prejudice either, so we have to deal with it.

Races so far:

Pure human: People with genes only from Homo Sapiens and Homo Neanderthalensis. They tend to be very adaptive, as do their powers.
Human: people that are physiologically indistinguishable from pure humans. Generally have genes from multiple races, though are predominantly Homo Sapiens.
Cambian: Incubi and Succubi. Pureblood ones have wings and tails, as well as purple tinting around the sides of their face and body
Powers include the ability to sense and absorb Lust and Love emotional energy, and disguise themselves with illusion. Absorbing enough energy will slow, halt, or reverse aging in mature ones.
Djinn: Typically look a lot like humans, but with grey irises that glow blue when they use their powers. Powers include the ability to channel desire into physical objects, physiological changes, or powers. Such constructs require desire to contine to exist.

Name: Sergio LaMont

Race: Cambian

Powers: Emotional sensing (Lust and Love), Absorb emotional energy (Love and Lust, needed to survive, fights aging in older Cambians), Illusion (make themself look like a different person of the same gender)

Year: 3rd

Degree: Prelaw

Reason for wanting degree: So he can help defend nonhumans from bigots.

Hobbies/Clubs: Visits a lot of clubs and parties.

Personality: Loves to hang out and socialize, but he's determined to do well in school so that he can get a law degree, like his father.

Bio: Born just before humans found out about all of the other races, he grew up with people judging him. His dad was a US Senator, but when people found out that humans weren't the only people on the planet a large enough "Humans should be represented by humans" movement sprouted up to lose him and several others their position. After that his dad restarted his career as an attorney, helping non humans who felt they were being discriminated against.
Sergio has wanted to help his dad out for a long time, but without a law degree he was stuck doing paperwork and other menial tasks. When he graduated high school, though, his dad made him a deal: get strait As in prelaw and he would pay for Sergio to go to Harvard.

Greg Simmons

Name: Greg Simmons

Race: Djinn

Powers: Manifestation: He can make objects, alter bodies, and give people powers. The strength of those powers depends on the desire of the person, and the more complex the object, alteration, or power is the more desire it requires to maintain. A Djinn must also understand how something works before they create it, and the energy released by the object, alteration, or power must come from either the user or their desire.
Type C blood: All pure Djinn and many hybrids have a special protein in their blood that, while making their blood incompatible with anyone that isn't type C, interacts with neurotransmitters in their brain. This helps feed their brain, making them build up mental stress more slowly, and allows them to actively change the signals their brains send to their bodies. Many use it to alter hormones or control autonomous functions. Greg uses it to increase his metabolism and lower his Myostatin levels, so that he looks like he works out even though he sits around playing games all day.

Degree: Computer programming

Reason for wanting degree: To become a game developer.

Hobbies/Clubs: Plays a lot of video games, HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) Club

Personality: He's a geek. He loves learning about how things work, but is socially inept. Doesn't like to be around humans because of the pro-human groups that mistreated him as a kid.

Bio: The son of a fashion designer and a machinist, he grew up fairly normally until his dad's boss fired him. His boss claimed that he was slacking off, but he thought it was because his boss hated non-humans. He hired Sergio's father, and the investigation resulted in death threats, attacks, and various forms of harassment, events which they learned were orchestrated by his former boss to try and get him to drop the case. They also discovered that his former boss had joined an online "pure humans" group where anyone that wasn't a pure human wasn't welcome.
After winning the case they decided to move into the non-human area of the city, and Greg grew up with few humans around. Greg became friends with Sergio, and his dad got a job designing car parts for a performance car factory in town. The occasional attacks on the neighborhood, however, have made his weary of humans. That's one of the reasons he turned to online games, as no one can tell what race you are without a picture to look at.

@Lady Seluneno, it isn't NSFW. Cambians don't need to sleep with people to feed on them, it's just the fastest, most efficient way. He will, howecver, hang out in night clubs and at parties because Lust saturated the air there.

@The Seraphimyep. My two versions of angels, Seraphim and Cherabim, were either sent to earth to be tested (all of them have to go through it sense Lucifer's rebellion) or the descendants of them. Seraphim are fighters and Cherabim are support (non-comms, healers, entertainers, functionaries, etc.). Seraphs tend to be logical and always honest, Cheribs are honest, but more emotional.

You can always have your own form of these (maybe an outcast clan/tribe) or make your own version up.

@Lady Seluneforgot to mention that my second character will be a Djinn. He uses his powers to hide Sergio's wings and tail, and Sergio helps him deal with people, especially women.

CS(Amelia)

Name: Amelia Cross

Race: Half-human, quarter-Cambian, quarter-Djinn

Powers: Empathic--can sense strong emotions and manifest changes based on those emotions. Needs to feed on emotions for sustenance. None of the illusion powers of Cambians and relatively minor manifestation Djinn powers.

Year: Freshman

Degree: Psychology

Reason for wanting degree: Wants to be a therapist. Endless supply of emotions as well as the ability to help others deal with their emotions.

Hobbies/Clubs: Secretary of the gay/straight alliance. Plays back-room poker (using her powers to sense when people are bluffing). Tends bar to make ends meet.

Personality: Amelia is introverted, which makes her relationship with her powers and needs complicated. She's trying to reach out to people more, but she isn't great at it, partially because she doesn't always trust herself to open up safely (see bio). Because she's panromantic and asexual, relationships are doubly complicated. Amelia tends to be very grounded, as she has figured out how to keep her own emotions balanced and in check, but when she feels strong emotion, it often overpowers her judgment and perspective.

Bio: Amelia is the second person in her family to attend college. Her father--a half-human half-Djinn--graduated from East Coast University with a teaching degree and currently teaches high school English. Her mother--a half-human half-Cambian--is a high-class escort. Amelia was successful in school, mostly because her lack of connection with others gave her quite a bit of free time. Her only romantic partner, a girl she met in 11th grade, ended up having to spend time in a mental hospital because Amelia absorbed so much of her emotions at once (the first time they kissed). Since then, Amelia avoided strong emotional attachments.

@TheUnknowable Her powers fluctuate based on the intensity of the emotion the target is feeling, but they change reality (in the Djinn way) in order to resolve the emotions. They're as subtle as possible, and tend to shift the emotions of people around the target in order to shift the situation to resolve the emotions. Amelia usually has tight control over her powers, but when her guard is down (she's overwhelmed, tired, etc) or when the person's emotions are unusually profound, her powers can work without her knowledge or intent.
