Come Out To Play Mahlimae!

Our adventure begins on the first day of winter break in small rural town of Alta Vista, Iowa. Exciting right? A group of 8 young teenagers who spend their time hanging out and getting into trouble when they aren't at school or helping out at the farm at home. With a population of less than 300, everyone tends to know everything about everyone.

Perhaps this is why it was so strange when a group of teenagers came across a new creature in the midst of their exploring a old abandoned house at the edge of the forest. They couldn't very well tell their parents that they broke into the house, and who would believe their discovery if they did? The creatures don't speak very clearly, besides a varying pitched 'mahlimae' in response to everything.

Despite the multiple questions the group had, they decided they would continue to come and visit the mahlimae at least once every day. They would try to feed them, as well as see if they could find out some more about the strange creatures. It wasn't until the third day that the mahlimae couldn't be found in their usual spot.

The group searched high and low and couldn't find the creatures anywhere in the abandoned house.

When everyone got home that night, things changed.

Biography

Parker Caspian Quinn was born in Alta Vista, Iowa to Marie Quinn and Clint Quinn. His mother was an upbeat and motivated city woman who fell for Clint, his father, who was a mere simpleton in comparison, when he got on the wrong plane to Chicago from California. His tickets were swapped with Marie's then fiancee. As the story goes, it was believed fate really wanted his parents to be together and when they got to know each other better, Marie fell in love with his humble, Midwestern charm. Marie got pregnant with him by accident when they were in their early twenties and so Parker was born. Her parents weren't fond of the idea at first but all was well. Parker was supposed to have siblings but his mother could only have him because she had, and still has, a hereditary heart problem. Despite that, he was always accompanied by his cousins from both sides of the family who always felt more like siblings; he was always the older brother figure to them.

In school, he's a bright teenager who is part of a few outdoors clubs that meet every other week like geocaching and bird-watching. He tries to avoid the popular crowd as much as he can because they're not on the same "wavelength" and he's had some bad moments where he's been a chew toy to the jocks. His grandfather has encouraged his father to teach him some self-defense but Clint is worried his son will get into fights.

Parker knows that he's different from the others in the sense that he's nerdy and pretty socially awkward. It's made him sad sometimes because he knows he could use some more friends other than his cousins and a few old ones but he hopes that one day that will change. His hobbies and family help him to think positively especially since he's a harsh critic to himself. He's grateful for his grandfather's pep talks.

Biography

One look at Raven and she is immediately put into the rebel category. While not so far from the truth, she isn't a rebel in the traditional sense. Coming from a broken home, she has had it rough growing up. Quick to anger at her father for abusing her mother constantly, and herself, she lashed out at school, at home, and pretty much anywhere. She would sneak out, get in trouble, and get arrested. It wasn't until her father killed her mother that she finally sobered up. Her father was arrested and she went to live with her grandparents. Instead of seeing a troubled child, they saw an interesting young woman who was dealt a bad hand and needed to vent. The outpouring of emotion she witnessed from them led her to turn her life around. While she still rebels a bit, she actually enjoys school and aims to be a social worker when she gets older. She paints as a means to let off stress. She doesn't back down from confrontation, defending those that can't defend themselves. She may look punk, but she is one person you'd want backing you up.

Biography

Sebastian was born in the cold months, the youngest of three. His sister Marissa was six years old when he was born. Sebastian never really knew his eldest sibling, Rachel, incredibly well. She was ten when he was born and she left the small Iowa town for college the day she was old enough. Marissa and Sebastian grew up closely, however they eventually became distant when their parents began to have issues with their marriage. Events such as alcoholism and verbal abuse slowly became more commonplace in the Monroe household, until eventually Marissa and Sebastian came to expect it. The middle child followed in her sister's footsteps and left the small town as soon as possible. After living in a troubled household for a few years by himself, Sebastian soon began to distance himself from his parents.
Spending more time with friends after school, looking for people to teach him piano, running track, anything to escape his family. He wasn't truly in danger at home, however it was usually unpleasant. Despite his sisters' actions and his parents poor parenting, Sebastian is determined not to leave Alta Vista. This is hometown and he won't abandon it.
Side note: His parents relationship has improved significantly over the years, however there are still isolated incidents of violence (mental, verbal, and twice physical), but they are on the mend.

• Gina and Sebast both grew up in Alta Vista, meeting each other in their younger years via their mothers. Their relationship has been healthy for both of them throughout. Gina tends to make sure Sebast doesn't make too many stupid decisions, and he helps her not get completely absorbed in something to the point of obsession. Sebastian depends upon Gina to keep him steady. He trusts her pretty much the most out of anyone.
