Tim, as the Robin that came after Jason Todd, received an extensive training regiment at the hands of multiple teachers to ensure that what destroyed his predecessor would not affect him. Bruce wanted to make sure that his protégé would be able to hold himself up in combat and successfully defend himself, leading to him traveling to Paris to train under Rahul Lama, a martial arts master. From here, he would eventually move on to Lady Shiva, whom he managed to beat in a sparring battle with the bo staff, which became his signature weapon. Under his trainers, Tim has accumulated a proficient skill in hand to hand combat and melee weapons, using the accumulated knowledge in a non-lethal way to assist himself as Robin. On top of his developed skill, Tim has earned (through vigorous workout sessions) some muscle definition, and while he doesn't match up to super strength, he is certainly able to defend himself. Additionally, he can withstand extended periods of physical activity due to his agility.
Not everything needed to be ingrained into him, however; Tim is nothing less than a natural genius. He is an exceptional detective, having deduced the identities of both Bruce and Dick when he was just a young boy after watching Dick as Robin perform a move he saw him doing in the circus. Batman himself said that Tim has the potential to become a better detective than him.
His high level of intelligence makes Tim a natural student and self-taught practitioner of many disciplines. He has studied computer science and is a highly skilled programmer and hacker. He has an in-depth knowledge of the natural sciences, which he puts to use in the crime lab. He has studied the behavioral sciences, specifically criminology, and is very well-read and literate.
Bio:
Jack Drake was the heir to the newly Fortune 500 company Drake Industries, and a well-respected archeologist and businessman both when he met fellow archeologist and historian Janet Draper, a fiercely beautiful – and fiercely intelligent – woman at an opening at the Archaeological Museum of Iraklion in Crete, Greece. The romance that followed was like something out of a modern day fairy tale, full of exotic locales, intriguing mysteries, royalty both modern and historical, grand parties, opulence, and, after three years of dating, an absolutely gorgeous wedding.
After their honeymoon tour of Europe, the newlyweds returned to Janet's home town, Gotham City and purchased an estate in the outskirts to build their dream home on. Their timing was good - just a few months after their new home’s completion, Jack and Janet had their first and only son: Timothy Jackson Drake.
Tim’s youngest years were spent mostly with a succession of nannies, as his parents had a habit of firing the last every time they returned home from their trips in order to look after him themselves. But, more absorbed in their work, both business and archeological, and each other than they were interested in Tim, Jack and Janet were rarely home for more than a total four or five months over an entire year, stopping home only for weeks or days at a time between trips. Even when they were home, their attention was largely occupied by something they deemed a higher priority. As the quality of the nannies hired tended to vary – Janet sometimes forgot to hire someone until the last minute, and didn’t have time to be choosy – Tim learned fast to look after himself as much as possible. He also learned to savor the time and attention his parents actually afforded him.
It was during one such instance that Jack and Janet brought a six year old Tim to see Haly’s Circus. It was there that the young and impressionable child met Dick Grayson, a member of the prestigious acrobatic group, The Flying Graysons. In hopes of calming his nerves, Tim was even granted a picture before the show. During the performance, however, tragedy struck as he witnessed the death of both Mary and John Grayson at the hands of an assumed system of faulty high wire.
Witnessing tragedy caused Tim to become more stoic in his emotional appearance, leading to a slightly disconnected relationship with his parents. Through this, many childlike traits dispersed into nothingness, and he gained a keen sense of observation.
Said skill would prove to come in handy in upcoming years. Tim was nine when he successfully deducted that Dick Grayson was Robin after witnessing him perform a move that only someone from The Flying Graysons would be able to complete, thus meaning that his adoptive figure, Bruce Wayne, was Batman. It was after this that Tim followed the pair closely, even though the eventual transition from Robin to Nightwing for Dick and Jason Todd’s accumulation of the position.
It was a while after the tragic death of Jason Todd that Tim realized Batman needed a Robin (due to the sudden reckless and aggressive that Batman portrayed, which defying traditional character traits), and concluded after Nightwing refused to take up the position that he would be an adequate fit. Both were not initially on board, however. It was not until after Bruce and Dick had been kidnapped and Tim, with the help of Alfred, rescued the pair that he was taken seriously in his proposition. Bruce eventually accepts under the condition that Tim endures extensive training to ensure that the fate of the previous Robin will not fall upon him as well.
The training certainly was long - Tim was taken away from Gotham to learn a variety of skills under multiple teachers, leaving his family at home rather defenseless. This would prove to be crucial as on his leave, both Jack and Janet were kidnapped. He continued to focus on his teaching, leaving Batman to rescue the two. Unfortunately, they had been poisoned, killing Janet and placing Jack in a coma. Bruce feared that this would plague Tim with the same resentment that Jason felt, but lucky, Tim displayed that he was still in a good mental place, resulting in him officially earning the position.
At thirteen, Tim was officially introduced to the Titans as Robin 3.0 by Nightwing, who’d he grow to view as a brother. After Dona Troy's marriage to Terry Long and subsequent retirement, leadership of the Team was passed to Robin, who was forced to grow into the role quickly in order to face against the looming threat of a reorganized H.I.V.E, now led by Deathstrokes ex-wife Adeline Kane.
After his father woke from the coma, he was paralyzed from the waist down and required a nurse to assist him (one in which he would eventually end up marrying). His father was less than pleased about his son’s sudden relationship with Bruce Wayne, placing a gap in their own bond. It isn’t until later that Jack concludes that Tim is Robin. By this time, it was too late - sadly, he was killed by Captain Boomerang, his final statements to his son relating to not blaming him. The death of his last relative was rather hard on him, but he’s managed to push through it. A year after the event, Tim accepted Batman's adoption offer and became Bruce Wayne's legal son.
While sharing his time between Gotham and San Fransisco as both a half of the Dynamic Duo and leader of Teen Titans has proved tenuous, it has helped Tim establish himself as a worthy Robin. But the disappearance of Batman and the apparent arrival of Damian as Bruce's biological son, makes him unsure of what the future holds...
