History: Ord Taranos has been a part of the Republic for at least a full 1,000 years. It was initially identified as a suitable colony and tourist world, but its distance from primary hyperspace lanes soon killed the follow-up investments needed to keep development of the planet apace to the liking of the galaxy's beings. As soon as the initial investments dried up, many of the laborers were left without a credit to their name or a way off planet. Ord Taranos became synonymous with anarchy and disorder for nearly a century despite the intervention of the Judicials and even the direct intervention of the Jedi Knights to restore peace to the world. Through their combined efforts the people of Ord Taranos were able to enjoy several centuries of peace and relative prosperity. As its cities grew and it gained a reputation as a breadbasket for the sector, the tourist trade so instrumental to its founding began to blossom naturally.
The Trade Federation's choking taxation of the local shipping lanes invited smuggling cartels and criminal syndicates to set up shop in the system while the planet's governing bodies became mired in corruption. The outbreak of the Clone Wars saw the planet's citizens remain loyal to the Republic, while the ruling class invited Separatist occupation. A Republic army with a Jedi General at its head drove the droid armies off world early in the war. With bountiful harvests and security, the citizens of Ord Taranos welcomed millions of refugees from other war-torn planets throughout the sector.
The Jedi General acting as head of the planetary government was executed after Order 66 went out, and the planet fell under direct military rule for a decade. Imperial surveyors discovered massive metal deposits beneath one of Ord Taranos' moons and began a mining operation using Confederate prisoners as labor. A massive factory complex, 1142-B, became the focus of the planet's new ruler, ISB Agent Vichous. The facility produces enough materiel to supply a company of Stormtroopers every week. If this sector is to be freed, it must be shut down.

The riot in Hurapine left twenty-three dead Stormtroopers behind and saw hundreds arrested- but Alliance Intelligence believes that was only the beginning.
