Morning was always an interesting time at Hogwarts. You would see a mix of the morning birds, chirping at each other as they gather food on their plates in the dining hall and you’d see the night owls, cursing the sunlight as they fight with every fiber of their being to stay awake… but end up with their face smashed into their plate of food. Then there was a few people who seemed to grasp that a healthy balance makes for a healthier mind; these people typically resided within the Ravenclaw house.
“Good mornings” echoed around the table as the casual students who were the early morning risers arrived and sat down, among them was a young man named Trenton Taylor who looked more determined than ever. The topic of conversation was the sixth year’s transfiguration class. “Do you really think that Professor McGonagall would have us try to perform a spell with another student?” Someone asked at the table as a small group of Ravenclaws gathered together for breakfast.
Trenton was the first to field the question, “This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Professor McGonagall expects a lot from her 6th year students so it only makes sense that she would give us such a hard task.”
“Hard task?” One of his fellow Ravenclaw’s said with a laugh. “Trenton you only say that because you could most likely perform the spell yourself without anyone’s help.”
“That’s because I practice every day. It’s not my fault you’re slacking Greg.” Trenton replied jokingly to his friend and the group had a good laugh. While Trenton was an incredibly gifted student, everyone did try to keep up with everyone else. Such is the motivation of the Ravenclaw house.
Soon breakfast came to a close and the group went their separate ways, Trenton hurrying towards Transfiguration. He was one of the first few to arrive which came as no surprise and he settled in a seat at the front. Soon class began and McGonagall took to the front of the room.
“Good morning. As I am sure you are all aware, we will be doing a spell that requires a high level of magic. This magic can be obtained by a single person if you truly have the dedication and power to do it but for this lecture you will be working in pairs to cast the spell. You will be turning a household object into animal.” With a flick of her wand, household objects appeared in front of each of the students. “If you succeeded while practicing, turning the animal back into an item takes very little magic and I expect to see items, not animals until the demonstration day. Please find your partner who has the matching item and begin your research and discussion.”
His chocolate gaze turned down to find a wooden box. Placing his hands on it, he slowly pulled the lid open to hear a soft gentle melody leaving it and inside was a hand written note from Professor McGonagall that said “Rabbit”. Okay so he had to turn a music box into a rabbit. Now… he turned in his seat to look around the room, noticing other students had already begun to move to find their partners. Who has the other music box?
