Xuxa Kalfan
'Shoo-shah Cull-fahn'
AGE 22 // DOB September 20th
Born into a culture which eschewed technology and favored a rustic, old-fashioned way of living, Xuxa learned more about the Akhasia region and what was going on in other parts of the world as she grew older, and began to yearn for more.
Being the daughter of a strict chief elder --also known as her father-- in the bustling and peaceful island of Bavala, she was often kept busy learning rites, rituals, and understanding how her home thrived. She was to know the crops, study the planets and the stars to determine auspicious dates for harvests, and she was to follow the fate of many other women, resigned to staying on Bavala and getting married.
With a little help from a dearly close friend by the name of Neela, she found a boat ticket to the town of Karringo where Professor Jacaranda lives and arranges beginner ceremonies for those who wish to start their own pokemon journey. Although she's terrified and nervous at the new sights, she finds the freedom in being her own person a cause worth fighting for.
Eager to make new friends, Xuxa is a sociable person, preferring to surround herself with people than be alone. Chatty and inquisitive, she will talk just about anyone's ear off whether they're willing to listen or not. Yet with her newfound freedom in a new place, feeling 'lesser than' other trainers comes easily to her; she has a tendency to feel jealous, inadequate, self-conscious, and worry what people think of her too much. Often, she struggles with adequately gauging how capable she is of carrying out a task in order to prove herself, leading her to take on more than she can handle, and inevitably crashing and burning under a weight she cannot pull. Desperately, she wants to prove that she is a gifted and competent trainer in different ways, but it can lead to backfiring on her when she takes on too much.
She is not necessarily spoiled with materialistic things; being the daughter of a chief meant she had to pull her own weight along with being in charge of others at times. But because she's spent most of her life in the village where she was in a position of power, she's quite naive and sometimes, a little overly expectant that things should go her way. Her naivety has also made her say stupid things since she's never quite been socialized as a 'normal person,' and was raised with most people respecting her no matter what she said. As such, negativity and simple criticism tend to hurt her much more than they should.
Being raised in an outside society where it seemed like she was constantly looking in on a world she could never be in, most of her life has made her crave being modern and 'fitting in.' Like a blade of grass, this desire to be liked makes Xuxa bend to others will, even if it means her own unhappiness. The flip side to this-- it does make her an open minded person who carefully considers all opinions different to hers. Needless to say though, she isn't good at sticking up for her beliefs, and often lacks conviction and direction in general. What more could one expect from a girl who has been told exactly what to do since the day of her birth?
She wants to return to her village once she is a better trainer, and prove to everyone that their traditions are 'pointless and stupid,' in other words, prove she is successful and that their ways are 'wrong.' Still, she has grown up a certain way for so long that there are bound to be certain things ingrained in her that will prove to be difficult to get rid of.
Perhaps one of Xuxa's greatest struggles are her issues with appearance; she puts entirely too much stock on it, and can end up judging pokemon harshly based on their looks-- becoming borderline phobic of such creatures she deems unworthy. As such, she's often overly conscious of the way she looks as well, leading into a nasty loop of judging and doubt. Fortunately, one would not find her judging people based on their looks. This may be because she's so self-conscious of herself, and her pokemon, that she can't find the energy to care what other people look like.
Though kind and always willing to help, Xuxa has quite a bit of learning to do. Also, she can't lie to save her life. Even if she's around people who aren't familiar with her, anyone can tell when Xuxa is fibbing.
Her waist-length, voluminous black hair twists into deep waves and loose curls. Her pert eyes are dark brown-a color she hates- framed by thick, long eyelashes (probably the feature she loves about herself the most) and full, straight, dark eyebrows. Her skin is chestnut colored; her oval shaped face has distinctive features such as a slight cleft in her rounded chin and somewhat full lips with no cupid's bow. She’s short at 5’2. Her face is relatively non-descript, with no other features quite sticking out.
Her clothing of choice, no matter what the weather or how she is traveling, is usually some kind of pleated and flared a-line midi skirt, a short sleeved blouse, and leggings underneath with boots. Not entirely practical but she must feel pretty and modern at all times.
