Memento Mori. Remember that you will die. That's the unavoidable truth of life.
In ancient Rome a slave would stand behind a victorious general, softly whispering the words into his ear.
To remind him that even with all his triumph and all his armies and wealth he would still one day part from this world.

If you're one of them, though, it's not about when you die - it's about how you die.

You died, your heart stopped beating, the blood stopped flowing through your veins, your inner organs stopped receiving the needed oxygen. At least that is the scientific way to see it.
But in a mystic, spiritual sense much more is happening. Nearly every religion believes that the body is the vessel to a spirit, that is influenced by the things a person does in live. They are all right in a way.

After you died you don't awake in heaven, nirvana or whatever you might have believed. You rise from your grave. You don't feel cold, you don't feel hungry, all you feel is an urge to go somewhere, a special place. A city. But you notice something, you are not alone. With you is a creature, a being. A symbol tied to your cause of death. A Memento Mori.

---
Here's some

As a note if you consider making a character: Keep in mind that, while Revenants may be potentially very powerful, fresh ones are not at the top of this settings food chain or anywhere near it. Think of a good, basic starting place which could then develop into something more in-depth and unique. Basically, just keep a sort of progressive story narrative in mind. A character should have two abilities at the beginning, these should grow and he will get as the story progresses. Also they way your character died may not be as important as the circumstances. A buddhist monk who set himself on fire in protest would have different abilities than a firefighter dying on duty.
All characters will start in Chicago, where they were instinctively drawn to.

This Rpg is heavily inspired by a Rpg I did a long time ago. I take not all the credit for the ideas.

@The Narrator So, I got a few ideas for a Memento Mori. How many people are you looking for? I know of two people who might join.

@The Narrator Well, first can they be anything?

If so that opens up a lot of ideas for me.

I'm thinking thingy like Banshee, Wraith, siren, etc.

It.

So, in your example the conduit of Jimmy's Momento Mori's power is his own physical body, but the power itself is something that is supposed to belong to the Momento Mori. Does this mean that a Revenant can directly activate and wield the power possessed by their Momento Mori?

If so, how is that any different from the Revenant themselves possessing the power? And if not, are there delay issues with having the power you're trying to "use" be channeled through a separate entity possessing its own will and motives?

@The OneNo only Revenants, but you could style them after myths in some way if you are creative.

@Tatsua Aiisen Technically it is no different. It is just that the Memento Mori are the source of that power and if they would somehow be separated from the revenant through magical means he would be powerless.
There is however no delay.

@The Narrator Well you said
Some can be humanoid, others animal like and even geometric.
when talking about Momento Mori's. So I assumed they could be anything. If not then that's fine I'll come up with other ideas.

@The Narrator Thanks for the clarification. I was picturing something more like a Stand, but the way you've just described it makes it seem more like a sentient, ghostly symbiote of sorts that grants its host supernatural powers.

Can the Memento Mori act independently? Is there like, a range at which they can no longer provide their Revenant with abilities? Does the Momento Mori itself have powers, or is it dependent on its Revenant to fight?

@The One I misunderstood, no of course your Memento Mori could be Banshee-Esque.
@Tatsua Aiisen They can act independent in the way that they can talk and voice opinions, but they are completely subservient to their host apart from possible snarky comments. They can't really leave their host and they give all their power to the host. They are basically the supernatural embodiment of their hosts death.

@The Narrator Could a Memento Mori thats power is specifically that it can physically manifest or act separately from its user be valid?

@The Narrator Also, question. Do the Revenants have the same personality? And for example, Heather. If you died by cutting your wrist, aka suicide would you still have those injuries? Would they show on the Momento Mori?

@Tatsua Aiisen Well I don't quite know. You would have to show me a complete Idea but I am open to the possibility.
@The One That is not quite an idea yet but you could do some pretty good characters based on suicide.
