Character Sheet for Ceraun Farohm

Name: Ceraun Farohm.
Nicknames: Ceraun, Ceri, Medic, Doc
Title: Fleet Head Medic

Height: 5’-5” (165 cm)
Weight: 125 lb (57 kg)
Age: ?? - Ceraun herself has lost track. Age has no meaning for her race. Suffice to say, she is older than most other members of the fleet.
Race: Oujavu. A race of multi-hued bipedal humanoids that are generally highly attuned to magic. The Oujavu were conquered by the Scroungers nearly 50 years ago, and the majority of the race was wiped out. The Oujavu are proud folk, most unwilling to bend the knee under the benevolent terms offered by the Scroungers. They wished their lands preserved, which was a non-starter. A select few realized that survival meant servitude, and offered their services to the Scroungers.

Oujavu can live to be an almost indeterminable age, but reproduce extremely slowly. On their planet, they had no natural predators and lived in harmony with nature. A millennium could pass before another child was brought into the tribe. Despite this agelessness, most Oujavu did not seek to better themselves, instead being content with a mere existence alongside other life. When the Scroungers arrived, the Oujavu were slow to defend themselves or to make talks. So slow, in fact, that their planet was destroyed before most understood what was happening. The members of the Oujavu who did better themselves tended to focus on magic or agriculture over technology.

Oujavu can be of several different colors ranging from blues and greens to reds and purples. Their pointed ears are reminiscent of elves in other worlds, and they have long been attuned to watery domains. After their race was assimilated, a handful of Oujavu found themselves on the dry spaceships of the Scroungers performing odd magical tasks. Few rose above the ranks of menial laborers, but those who did were able to find high-ranking positions either in ships or on the council.

Tier/Influence: 4 (Medium)
Ceraun is able to manipulate magical energies to affect technological devices safely, which is a rare and potent ability.

Appearance: The first thing one would notice about Ceraun in the environment she inhabits is the lack of an exoframe. The second thing would be her light blue skin and deep blue hair that reaches the middle of her back. Ceraun has a thin but athletic frame, streamlined as if designed for swimming. She wears clothing that allows for free movement but still is reminiscent of the flowy robes of her people. She maintains a caring and positive expression on her face, but when she believes no one is around, a wistful demeanor takes hold.

Personality: Ceraun generally shows a positive outlook on life, even in the worst of situations. Her typical goal is to make the best of any situation, and she does so with a smile, gaining the most enjoyment out of any task she sets herself to. She is dedicated and loyal, and a trusted member of the Council. Her first motivation is survival, primarily for herself but also for those she cares about. Although she does not naturally learn facts and rote memorization quickly, she is very quick to pick up skills and the general idea of things. When she is not on duty, she can be seen scrounging through the archives of the Scroungers, learning as much as she can about the people. Fifty years with them, and she still has more to learn.

Her duties have brought her in close contact with nearly every member of the higher echelons of the Scroungers military, and she is one of the few people who could tell you what most of them look like without their exoframes. She acts as a mix between doctor and psychologist, delving deep into what makes people tick. However, behind her outgoing exterior is a solid wall that deflects any personal information. No one yet has been able to crack her shell, even if some believe otherwise. She cares about those she cares for, but her top priority is always herself.

Abilities, Talents, Traits, Powers:
  • ( 4 ) Manipulation (Technomancy) -- This magical aptitude lets Ceraun manipulate anything from a swarm of nanomachines that she hacks into with her spells to controlling unhardened vehicles and equipment with far less effort. The more complex, advanced, sophisticated or alien a technology is, the more time, effort, and focus it takes for her to do so. Having spent half a century among the Scroungers, modifying their technology is nearly second nature. She is able to bolster and restore programming, even reviving fried circuitry. In addition, manipulating technology in general comes easier to Ceraun than healing. Where normal mages would be faster at healing and slower with technology, Ceraun’s attunement is reversed.
  • ( 3 ) Healing (Conjuration) -- Being attuned to nature, Ceraun can tap into the magic of life itself and heal minor wounds. She can, with a great expenditure of energy over a long period of time, heal more serious wounds. While able to minimize the impact of minor injuries, she's unable to restore missing portions of the body such as organs. She can only heal living things using spells like these, and does so at a slower pace than affecting technology.
  • ( 3 ) Revival (Conjuration) -- Ceraun can, provided the target would not die upon its resurrection again, use tremendous amounts of magic to bring the recently departed back to life, reuniting body, mind, and spirit. If the target has been dead for more than a few hours, Ceraun does not possess the magical ability to revive them. However, an ally who fell in the heat of battle might only take moments to revive. The biggest challenge is gathering enough magical ether and having the focus to do so.
  • ( 2 ) Projected Barrier (Conjuration) -- Ceraun can project a one-way barrier that prevents incoming fire while allowing her allies behind it to continue firing while it is active. The barrier is approximately 20 ft wide by 10 ft tall (6 m wide x 3 m tall) and can withstand a moderate amount of fire before it is destroyed. If enemies flank or attack from a point that is not blocked by the barrier, the barrier is completely ineffective. They can even physically pass through the barrier unharmed, as the barrier is effectively a magical inertial dampener.
  • ( 4 ) Lightning Bolt (Electromancy) -- Ceraun can cast spells that unleash currents of dangerous electricity at those she wishes. They can range from startling jolts, to blasts of lightning that can inflict actual injury and harm to beings or technology, especially ones that aren't grounded or are in contact with water. Unlike her healing magic, Ceraun’s Electromancy is just as effective on people as it is on tech.

As an Oujavu, Ceraun is deeply in tune with magical abilities. Specifically, she is excellent at healing, and is even capable of technomancy, both with restoration and control. Her power stems from eons of attunement with nature, and is supplemented by the energy provided by the Scroungers. She must either spend an hour each day accepting energy from the Scroungers through her implant, or spend ten minutes communing with a natural environment. In a sustained fight, she can run out of magical energy, but will still remain fairly effective with simple yet powerful cantrips she has learned through the years.

Items:
  • ( 3 ) Jetpack -- Ceraun has also been granted a personal jetpack for easy maneuverability. This jetpack is tied into the Scroungers mainframe and is often physically connected to her mental port to allow near flawless coordination.
  • ( 2 ) Medical Kit -- full of vials of nanobots and medical supplies. Allows for basic treatment of injuries without expending magical energy.
  • ( 1 ) Pistol -- She carries a simple pistol at her side in situations where her magic may fail her, but rarely uses it.
  • ( 3 ) Mental Implant (Port) -- Ceraun has an implant at the base of her neck that allows her to physically connect with exoframes or power sources. This implant boosts her innate connection to technology and allows her to assume direct control over every function of certain technological devices, or it allows her to convert technological energy into magical, fueling her powers.

History: For millennia, Ceraun had found that her magical powers were most effective when dealing with what technology her tribe had, but as technology was not the priority of any Oujavu, she was less than effective among them. She honed her abilities through automata she constructed herself: first carved from wood and sticks, and later golems made from clay or stone. When her world was destroyed by the Scroungers, she eschewed her own race to live with them, favoring her own survival over the continued existence of her planet.

Upon assimilation, Ceraun soon proved herself a powerful ally. She provided a distinct niche that the Scroungers heretofore had lacked: the ability to restore dying tissue or technology to its original state. Her assistance has been invaluable in the Scroungers’ attempts to prolong their degradation, and she was one of a large team of scientists to work on developing the newer exoframes (although she could hardly be called a scientist herself). She soon rose to become a trusted member of the Council, her advice a calming and steady approach in contrast with the General’s headstrong attitude. However, she would never question an order given by the General, and has been known to accompany him in dangerous ground fights, both to provide support and to give her a chance to touch down on solid ground, one of the few accommodations that Universal Nova (the ship they inhabit) is unable to provide.

This character is approved. As a reminder, please recall that the overall rating of (4) means that your character's strengths, that tier and the next tier down, are what are represented and the standard measured against. It goes without saying, but others better at your weaker abilities will trump your own; an obvious statement, but it need be made since the whole profile is a (4) with a handful of (3)s.

Your Electromancy is not a 2 ability, I would categorize it as 3-4, likely leaning towards the latter.

@JBRam2002, you have a fairly low values applied to what are arguably powerful abilities: resurrection (one of the seven wonders only a grand witch could perform in Coven), healing even terrible wounds, and projecting a magic barrier that stops bullets (when Neo became a god in the matrix).

Consider rewording resurrection to something like resuscitation and restrict it to people who have recently died/aren't brain dead.

Consider bumping Healing to a 4 or restrict it to minor wounds.

Consider bumping Barrier to a 4 or lower it to a 3 and say there is a chance bullets can pass through.

Thanks!

I have already restricted Resurrection to the recently deceased in my wording (within past several hours). Healing is also intended to be minor (as noted in the wording - she is better at repairing tech than living tissue). My intent on Healing is for serious wounds to take a significant amount of time and energy, whereas minor wounds can be dealt with swiftly.

As for the Barrier, I can increase its strength, but it is extremely easy for enemies to flank or avoid it, as the barrier is stationary and not directly on an ally. It blocks from a single direction and does not stop advancing troops or magic that originates inside the barrier. The barrier is also fairly small (only 10 ft tall), allowing for elevation to render it completely moot. I feel like a lvl 3 or 4 barrier would be significantly more powerful, perhaps even an AoE bubble centered on my allies like I originally requested but was told to change.

I can make the increases noted, but I was told to restrict to a single lvl 4 ability. I'd gladly increase the strength of my character... I just want to make sure that is something that's allowed.

@The Harbinger of Ferocity@Circ@Rilla - I have revised the wording on Healing and Resurrection. The wording previously used was suggested to me, but I feel the revised wording more accurately depicts what I had in mind. Circ had mentioned that these two abilities' power levels might be too weak compared to their descriptions.

I still have questions regarding the Barrier usage. Please see the post above.

@JBRam2002 The problem with barrier is you have listed as level one, which is for regular person with no special abilities or powers. It is unlikely you'd be even casting a spell at that level. Refer to the below:

1 (self) – a person; not particularly special; no magic; mundane.
2 (local) – exceptionally talented in a particular area, such as gymnastics, sniping, persuasion, hacking, slight-of-hand, extra-sensory projection, sensing magic or minor cantrips, unusual luck.
3 (regional) – physically or cognitively augmented; able to cast weak spells, although not reliably; skills pushed beyond the limits of mere talent and practice; noteworthy in their field.

Healing would be fine as a 2 if it were basically a "stabilize" cantrip, which prevents someone's condition from getting worse, but because it is using magic to heal instead of just applying regular first aid it is a 3.

I have increased Healing to Tier 3 and Projected Barrier to Tier 2 without changing wording. Is this acceptable?
