The world's so used to peace and one-sided wars that whenever things start to look like there might be a conventional-style war or a world power that isn't the US is the instigator, it's going to turn into WWIII or a nuclear war.

But yeah, there's news all over the internet that the US and China will protect Ukraine. Ukraine is a member of NATO if I'm not mistaken, so the US will help. And China too. Idk why China would, but the news articles are talking about it.

Funny, because most of the news I am reading says that NATO isn't obligated to assist (also, the Ukraine is not a NATO member. Don't know where that came from) and the US has been emphasizing that military action is not on the table. As for China, China usually sides with Russia (for instance, the whole Arab Spring thing) and while there's a lot of historically bad blood between them, I don't see China taking interest. This whole thing is Georgia all over again. I sincerely hope that people didn't forget about that.

1. The war lasted more than twice that long.
2. The Republic of Georgia was not defeated. There was no change of sovereign borders, only de facto Russian occupation of a portion of Georgian territory. The United States had no duty to defend Georgian territory. Russian occupation of Ukraine, on the other hand, is in violation of the treaty under which Ukraine transferred its nuclear stockpile to the Russian Federation (the Budapest Memorandum). While Ukraine isn't a NATO power, Poland and Lithuania are, and Russia is making military movements in Kaliningrad (a Russian exclave bordering both countries) similar to those made near Ukraine prior to the occupation of Crimea.
