I think it would be helpful to have a foreign language thread where students can practice writing and possibly even speaking (through certain chat programs) foreign languages with each other.

don't really see an issue with this. Just have to keep an eye out in case anyone starts acting like an ass in another language but we did for a while have some Korean roleplayers on the site.
