"I hear that the two of you are off to Galar, so I decided to bring you both a gift," Oak said as he produced a pair of deactivated cell phones. "These latest model Pokédexes include information on pokémon that were discovered in the Galar Region." Oak went on to explain that these Pokédexes are powered by Rotoms. Liam however had opted to update his older pokédex in place of getting a RotomDex. Oak explained that he had caught an extra Rotom on the way here that Liam could have for his Pokédex. Oak sent out that Rotom which possessed Liam's SIM card and swapped to the new phone and copied all of the info Liam's phone into the new one. It floated up and took a photo of Liam and began to process the set-up.
"Thanks, Prof," Liam said with a smile.

Shiranui had also foregone getting a Rotomdex and used an updated older Pokédex. He planned to get a Rotom in Galar when a portal opened and an electric arc from the portal zapped his new violet-coloured phone into life. "That's new," he commented as the portal closed. He looked at the back of his phone and saw a Rotom face appear.
"I am Rotom, sent to activate the smartphone belonging to Pokémon Trainer Shiranui Tsukiko of the City of Ecruteak. My primary function is to provide a mobile computing interface. I have a message for you: 'Titania foresaw your need for a Rotom so while you were competing in the Alola League I set off to the Lake of Outrage and persuaded Rotom here to help you out, which was easier than I expected. It turns out that a lot of Rotom in Galar have formed mutualistic relationships with humans as you'll soon find out. Compliments of your guardian fairy and your friendly neighbourhood Hoopa. "Looks like I owe Titania and Majin some Poké Puffs," stated Shiranui as his new Rotom Phone downloaded data from his old Pokédex via an internet link. He transferred his SIM card from his old phone into his Rotom Phone and the apps he had downloaded appeared on the home screen of his Rotom Phone.

"Pokémon World Coronation Series?" Liam asked aloud in confusion. His Rotomphone floated up and explained that it was a tournament held with trainers from every region. Every trainer is organized into one of four ranks: Normal, Great, Ultra, and Master class, with each group holding fewer people than the one below it, for instance, Master only has eight members whose members include among them: Former Johto Champion Lance, and Galar's undefeated champion Leon.
"That's interesting," Liam said.

"Sounds like our kind of competition," Shiranui added.

"Might be cool," Liam agreed. "But I feel like region hopping would be nice in doing that though."

"That is also true," Shiranui agreed, "We can register for the PWCS and then continue with business as usual."

"How would you register for it?" Liam asked.

"If it's a worldwide competition, I assume you register for it on their website," Shiranui speculated, "Or you could ask your Rotom Phone."

Liam had his Rotom Phone register him for the World Coronation Series and placed him in the Normal Class since he hadn't entered before.

Shiranui followed his own advice and registered for the World Coronation Series. Like Liam, he was placed in the Normal Class. "We have a long road ahead of us," he stated.
"I have a message for you," Shiranui's Rotom Phone notified, "Thank you for registering for the Pokémon World Coronation Series. Our website and smartphone app will allow you to search for and challenge other PWCS participants and will notify you when other participants are nearby. Rules for the World Coronation Series can be accessed from our website and smartphone app."

Prof Oak wished Liam and Shiranui luck and then left to return to his lab in Pallet Town. "Should we get going on to Ecurteak?" Liam inquired.

"I say we should," Shiranui answered.

With that, the heroes set out on their way. When entering Eckeuteak City, Liam got a notification about multiple WC participants in the area. Liam checked and saw Shiranui on the list, and a few random other trainers, including what looked to be a pair of twin boys dressed in crimson ninja robes. "Maybe I should battle one of them before I head home," Liam thought to himself.

"You thinking what I'm thinking?" Shiranui asked, seeing the ninja twins in his notification list.

"Find these Ninja boys and get our first victory?" Liam offered. There was a small sound of a twig snap and Liam turned to look in that direction. "I bet that's them," Liam said as two young figures leaped out from the bushes and brandished katanas or rather blades that proportionately as long as katanas for their height at the heroes.
"Ha!" Cried the first one. "None shall pass into Eckurteak City,"
"Without battling the Ninja Bros Three!" Followed up the other.
"Ok, four things," Liam said. "A: You can't bar him," Liam now points to Shiranui "because he lives in this city, nor can you bar anyone else for that matter. B: Even if you had that authority you could not bar me with me being the Johto Champion, C: There's only two of you, and last but not least D: 'City' and 'three' don't rhyme".
Liam folded his arms. "Now, with all of that said, We could hold battles for the World Coronation Battle if you wanted." Liam quickly dispatched one who used a Koffing with Goodra.

Shiranui used Mega Manectric to dispatch the other ninja's Sneasel. "I got to give you two credit, your ninjutsu is authentic," Shiranui praised as his rank went up, "If you aren't already, you can train at my clan's dojo."

"With that, Liam decided to part ways with Shiranui for now and went home. He dropped his dragons off in the Dragon Den to relax before going home himself where his mother, father, and Florance the Blissey were waiting to celebrate his travels in Alola.
