You wake up, confused and unsure of your surroundings. Perhaps in a chair of an abandoned room, or on the cold concrete ground. None of this is familiar- and definitely isn’t where you were supposed to be. Last you checked, you were supposed supposed to be a new student at Hope’s Peak Academy, the most prestigious school in Japan- perhaps in the entire world. And yet, now you’re here…

“Upupupupu! It’s time for another killing game? Can you feel it!? The blood pumping through your veins from this heart-pounding excitement!? I can’t possibly wait any longer!”

Welcome to Danganronpa Alternate: Apologies to Hope, a DR roleplay! Thanks to all who are reading! Now, before we begin, I’ll clarify that you don’t necessarily need a running knowledge on the series lore in order to participate- it’s more or less standalone. However, the plot line, specifically the general plot twist, will relate to the series as a whole (actually, they’re based on some fan theories I had and/or still have for DR3 and NDRV3), so if you don’t want to get spoiled for those you probably won’t want to participate (unless you think you’ll be done by then!)

To explain it really quickly for those who aren’t fans, basically Danganronpa is a series where high school students from Hope’s Peak Academy- who are recognized as being the best at what they do (ie Super High School Level (or just SHSL) Swimmer, SHSL Photographer, SHSL Gambler, etc- the concepts are pretty limitless)- are trapped by a mysterious monochrome bear, Monokuma! And if anybody wants to leave, they will be allowed to- if they can successfully get away with murdering another student.

If you want any more explanation, just let me know! I don’t know how many people would be interested who don’t already know the deal, hehe.

So here’s some important information:
1. One of you guys will be our mastermind! Whoever it is I’ll be letting you know, and we can talk out backstory privately (Note: I won’t be making you mastermind if you don’t want to be!)
2. I’m not sure if I’ll be doing a one character limit or not- depends on the level of interest, I suppose!
3. On that note, I’m also going to have a character! I’m not into any of that metagaming nonsense, though, so you guys won’t have to worry about that!
4. You’re able to reserve a talent while you work on your character, if you want!
5. I’m not going to require that you use name endings like -kun/-san/etc (though I do have a preference for it and I myself will be doing so, and if you want to but aren’t sure how to, I’d love to help!), but do ask that everyone present their names in Eastern order (Last name First name) just to make sure I know which is which.

EDITS: There's some important things I didn't mention that I feel like I should, so I’m going to do that now!

First of all, there is a “protagonist”, of sorts, but they won't be much different from the other characters (that just makes for an unfun role playing experience). I’m not entirely sure yet if I'm gonna do anything else, but basically the only major change thus far is that the protagonist will be given a bit of a push in the case where no one else can solve or progress a murder (this won't give you plot armor, though!)

Also, just as a note, it is very likely you're character will die, since my system for deciding on murders will be more-or-less random, depending on circumstances.

Backstory: Damian is about as extroverted as introverts get. He's willing to socialize, especially with other gamers, but he typically gets tired from social interactions quickly. His time is almost always spent strategizing or playing games to practice or to get better gear. He currently has no great friends, just online buddies he likes to practice with. Damian was noticed after winning a notable gaming tournament at a young age, and was invited to Hope's Peak overseas, and decided to take them up on the offer.
Any other information you'd like to share: He's nearsighted, so Damian will often take off his glasses to read or while he's on the computer.

Is this enough for an application? Im willing to expand it but i want to keep some details secret.

@Grnmachine I'd like to know how your character was noticed by Hope's Peak (usually, students are hand selected by talent scouts), but otherwise you're good! Also, I do want to mention that Hope's Peak is a Japanese school, so you character will be foreign and stuff (unless you want to make it so that he was raised in Japan or something). Not that I mind, I'm totally cool with that, I just want to make sure you were aware and had accounted for that.

Hisakawa Hiroki

Name: Hisakawa, Hiroki
Talent: SHSL Type A Student
Gender: Male
Appearance: Hisakawa is 5’8”, with pale skin, dark eyes, mid-back length black hair he keeps in a low ponytail. His build is pretty average, and contrary to what one might think, he dresses pretty casually- a faded green t-shirt, some old jeans, worn-out sneakers, and a gray jacket make up his usual attire.
Backstory: Hisakawa was, as you’d expect, a pretty Type A Student. He was an officer of- and participant in- many clubs, had an incredible amount of high-level classes, and manages a job on top of all of that. However, what he values most in his life is his family, especially his younger brother, Kichirou. He’s managed to survive several moves around Japan and a few times into the United States, several personal struggles, and all of his work, but that had changed one day, with only him knowing why. Suddenly, work was starting to slip by him, until eventually he left school, work, and his life completely unannounced. The formerly strong-willed man he once was had disappeared, replaced with someone tired and apathetic. At some point, he had been made aware a talent scout had head of his exceptional performance in school, when he still went, and he was offered admission to the school. With reasoning only he knew, he decided to abandon his newly-adopted lifestyle to attend Hope’s Peak.
Any other information you’d like to share: Hisakawa is a reserved man, though not necessarily unfriendly. He likes to meet with and talk to people, even if he does have some issues with communication. He has a few behaviors of note; he’s afraid of the dark, doesn’t like to eat in front of other people, and most notably, he reacts to women very differently. He calls himself a lady pleaser, as when a woman asks or suggests something of him, he’s quick to do so to the best of his ability. He doesn’t have this same behavior around anyone else, and interactions with others are noticeably less tense. However, this doesn’t affect his ability or willingness to befriend people- just his behavior.

Count me in. I've already got a character in mind. On that note, I'd like for them to be an American, as it's more appropriate for their talent. Might I also suggest that any time the last name is given in front of the first name, a comma is used? it would cause less confusion overall I think, as "Damian Pierce" seems to be in western format but you call your character "Hisakawa" even though you asked for names in an Eastern format.

"Professional Wrestler" is generally not the same thing as a "Wrestler", as one is real and one is fake. The occupation titles are unfortunately used interchangeably, so if he were the SHSL "Professional Wrestler", it would imply he was a legitimate wrestler. On the other hand, SHSL Actor, SHSL Charisma, SHSL Grandstander, and SHSL Hype Man all have unfitting connotations, so I went with Swagger.

Backstory: In his youth, he was an avid fan of professional wrestling. A bit of a mischievous child, he would often mess with fights, at first in minor ways. Since he would regularly attend events, (thanks to his parents both being professional wrestlers) this continued for quite a bit and slowly escalated. By the time he started to cause significant interference with matches, "the Ryder kid" had already gained a reputation for the excitement he induced. Every time he was involved, the matches were guaranteed some sort of subtly provided twist. Since these fights, including their outcomes, are choreographed, it was decided it would be easier to get him in on it rather than deal with a backlash that might occur from banning him. He was still too young to be allowed to wrestle of course, but he was given a wrestling persona, "Seth Ryder", which allowed greater freedom to directly interfere with fights. (For example, from the stage or out of the ring instead of from the stands) He had to abide by the guidelines he was given, but he even pushed the boundaries on that. By the time he was old enough to become a pro wrestler, his character's debut match was already one of the most hyped of the year. While he hasn't been a professional wrestler for long, writers were happy to indulge in his reputation, giving him an undefeated record.
Other information:
- Very tall
- He inherited his father's "WOO WOO WOO!" cheers.
- Despite gaining a reputation before becoming a wrestler, he did get proper training and he did develop the body for the job.
- His wrestling trunks have a qr code over the crotch. The QR Code is for his twitter. Has millions of followers.
- Has a wikipedia page (in-universe) where anyone could look up all of the above.

@Ryik Yeah, I was cool with Damian's name being in western order since he is western. And I call Hisakawa as such because native Japanese speakers rarely call each other by their first name (you'd have to either be family or be very close friends or romantic partners), so I typically call Japanese characters by their last name. But yeah, adding the comma might make more sense, I don't wanna make it more confusing for everyone just because I like to flaunt my knowledge of Japanese naming customs.

Taka Tsuin / Taya Tsuin

Gender:
Taka is a male persona, Taya is a female persona.

Appearance:
Taya / Taka has amber eyes and waist-length beige hair. They stand at 1m69 and share the same general build, but the similarities end there for whatever persona they don at the time.

Taya leaves her hair untied and lets it flow freely. She also wears just enough makeup to make her eyes, nose and lips look a little smaller but not enough to make you notice she's wearing any at all. Her style of clothing is very much everything she deems cute, with the clothes she prefers always being some kind of sailor or school uniform. On her feet are always pumps, never any heels or sneakers. Black skirts and white blouses are her go-to standard, although she actively avoids showing too much skin so she can hide herself. Her voice is rather high pitched and clearly feminine.

Taka, on the other end, dresses more masculine. He ties up his hair into a low ponytail so it doesn't stand out as much as Taya likes to have it, but still applies makeup. His makes it so his jawline is more pronounced and make the eyes stand out, giving Taka a more imposing and hostile look as opposed to Taya's cuteness. He often wears brown & black male school uniforms and suits to hide his body in, but his shoulders are noticeable broader than Taya's. He also likes to wear very business, or just plain old-fashioned, shoes. His voice has a medium pitch and is clearly that of a male's.

Personality:
They act differently based on the persona.

Taya is a very sweet and gentle person who has everyone's best interests at heart. She can be a bit of an airhead and doesn't pay much attention to detail, but her bubbly attitude makes her very sociable and tolerant. She's very easy to get along with and it takes quite a bit of effort to upset her, but her trusting nature also makes her naïve. She prefers to think with her emotions rather than her head, so whenever people start fighting Taya will try to act as a mediator and defuse the situation.

Taka, on the other hand, is foulmouthed and abrasive. He'll constantly try to push everybody away from him and dislikes interacting with other people. He's a very logical but also nihilistic thinker, constantly pondering about everything and everyone. He's got his head on straight, but is relatively easy to anger if you get confrontational with him. He has an easier time concentrating and thinking logically compared to the Taya persona, but his lack of social skills make him a terrible diplomat.

Backstory:
Taya/Taka have practically been cross-dressing since birth. Even back in Kindergarten, they'd dress up as a male one day and a female the next. At first the kids thought they were twins, alternating one day after the other, but as Tsuin grew older people started to realise it was the same person dressed in different outfits. The female persona always garnered a lot of attention and was doted on by everyone, while the male persona was often left ignored and even bullied. Still, they soldiered through life and had nothing much to complain from when it came to their parents, as they were very accepting of the nature of the cross-dressing. Their life wasn't particularly exciting, but the family got by and was relatively happy with each other.

Taya/Taka can often be found writing a letter to themselves, sometimes a bit coarser and other times a bit sweeter, as a strange hobby. They keep each of these letters like a diary, recording their daily activities without fail.
