If you have a suggestion let me know I welcome suggestions 4. No fighting in the OOC. I don't mind discussions and disagreements. 5. Use the mention button. It helps people know your talking to them. Especially me ;) 6. Internal thoughts are great but please make them appear different from your spoken words. I don't care if you use color or italics. 7. Post must be atleast three sentences long.
It is the year 2040. The mutant gene is so common that more than half of the babies born each year test positive for it. The world had to adapt to the mutants presence. Laws were passed. Everyone with an obvious mutation was force to wear a collar that could suppress their powers if the need arose. The began testing every baby born. If a baby had the X gene the parents were given the choice of raising it until it was sixteen or giving it up. Mutants were allowed to have jobs and attend schools. Collared mutants were requires to live within the boundaries of a sanctuary. Sanctuaries were the abandonded part of town. Adult mutants must report to a lab in the center of their mutants town. Few talk about what happens in the lab.
Mutation: Animistic- Jentoi mutant gene gives her a lizard like appearance, as well as giving her improved senses, speed and some strength. This does come with the downside of photosensitive eyes and less esteem.
Bio: Jen, as most call her, was born into a loving and well of family in a small town on the beach. The town is only a few miles from the city limits. When she was born, they did not test her for the presence of the gene. Her mother stayed at home while her father was a geneticist for a rather large company. Her mutation however, decided to mix things up when she was 6. During dinner one night, she started feeling sick and had a low fever. Her parents watched her thinking it was probably a stomach bug. When they saw scales growing, however, they panicked. Her father knew more about the mutants, so he thought he could delay the process. He gave her a serum that he worked on in the lab as a secondary method to suppress the mutant gene. It only accelerated the process. By midnight, she was already done transforming. Her mother tried to calm her because she was crying over her being the boogie man. Her father kept thinking of what could of gone wrong. They immediately went to register her with the authorities. When she went to school the next day, her father and mother accompanied her the office to do a mutant registry. The secretaries immediately recognized her, for she liked to hep them during lunch instead of going with the other students. After the registry was done, her teacher got her and brought her to class to lessen the shock to the other students. After that, she was bullied for the rest of her school time. She did make a few friends, but they were also bullied. Whenever someone tried to fight her, they were disappointed by her unwillingness to do so. She took the torment off her friends to her, because she thought she was the one who could take it. After high school finished, early no less, her parents had her stay with them, but they moved to the rather small sanctuary of their town. Her father wanted to try and 'fix' her, while her mother wanted her to do online collage and to keep her out of harms way. Her friend, Liz, became a seamstress after her mom for the town and helps by making clothes for Jen. Jen is almost got her master's in engineering and avoids the world. And the town she lives in protects her and she helps them back.
@Dealdric Looks good accept at sixteen she and her parents would have to move within the sanctuary boundaries. No collared mutants can live outside of the designated area.
I have yet to decide on a mutation for my character, and I'm wondering what might count as a mutation. Are we talking x-men type stuff, or only physical-type mutations?
@Papayasnmangoes LOL Any power or ability. I am fine with anything that makes them different. It can be claws, fur, scales, or any physical differences or a power like the X-men.
shout out to the artist who made this: David Cristobal, his work is awesome.
Name: Quinn Whitfoot Age: 21 Mutation: Quinn’s skin is made entirely of a wood-like substance, allowing him the same range of motion and movement, this material is less flammable than normal wood but more so than skin, making him not as much a walking fire hazard as he could be. On the plus side, is is as hard as wood can get, so for the most part Quinn doesn’t worry about falling or taking damage from unarmed attacks. Quinn has also developed limited Xylokinesis, primarily Quinn manipulates the wood of his skin into various shapes, weapons and tools, but he’s also displayed an ability to communicate in a primitive fashion with trees, and once, when fully angered and just before falling unconscious, he caused a small tree to grow rapidly from his feet, but that was a long time ago… Bio: Quinn was born to two surprised, albeit good-hearted parents. James and Anne Whitfoot were not exactly expecting a kid to come along when it did, and weren’t very ready for it, bit they did what it is you do, they took the kid to the Hospital to be checked for the X-Gene. Quinn had it, boy did Quinn have it. The doctor had had a few at lunch, and coming back, his hands shaky, he dropped Quinn, right onto the floor, but when Quinn landed it wasn’t with the shock that occurs when one drops a baby, but with the distinguished thunk that accompanies a clash wood on Linoleum. Quinn’s X-gene was already protecting him, it had temporarily lignified his skin, protecting him from the fall. It was at that moment that Quinn’s parent’s breathed a sigh of relief. It was in the next moment that they held their breath again though, for Quinn’s skin had not changed back. This, their general surprise at having him at all, and many other factors are what caused Quinn’s parents to give him up. So Quinn grew up, Collared, raised by the government in a freak camp. Life wasn’t so bad, mostly because he didn’t know any better. Things happened, he grew up in the home of Maggie (Voice manipulation) and Derek (Impenetrable skin) Jonson. The Jonson's provided a loving and caring home to Quinn, even telling him when he was fairly young about the adoption and his past. Prone to rebellion but never doing anything bad enough to get on anyone’s terrible list, one day Quinn found himself exactly there. They found him… well, they found him with someone he probably should not have been, and the next day he found himself transferred to this new Sanctuary. That was when he was 16, he's been here for several years now, but for the most part has tried to keep his head down, besides, nothing TOO terrible has happened to him here yet....right?
@GreenGoI am curious who he shouldn't have been with. But we can find that out later. You will have to add a foster family to raise him. But he's approved.
So I just want to be clear, when you say adult shifters go to labs in their shifter town are you using adult shifters as slang for mutants or human-looking mutants? If not then what happens to human looking mutants over 16? And just because I feel quirky today, does the rule of three sentences per post apply to the OOC? Because you guys have been breaking it for a while.
@JImFromTheOfice I hadn't even realize that I had wrote shifters. That is totally my fault. All mutants over the age of 21 have to go to the lab. Anyone between the ages of 16 and 21 simply has to live a sanctuary. Before sixteen everyone is allowed to live normally.
That is a good catch. But the three sentence rule only applies to IC posts.
Mutation: Isaac has the power of Consumption Psychometry which is to say he can gain information from things he eats. The information gained is usually the vision of the foods last days if it was from an animal or actual knowledge that becomes easier for him to learn if he eats books. His digestive system is still that of a human so he cannot eat anything a normal person can't eat and if he eats something he shouldn't like paper from a book he can get sick.
Bio: Isaac was born the youngest of four siblings where they were all raised by two loving and caring parents. His mother loved children as a school teacher and even though his father's work as an engineer took most of his time, he tried to always be there for his family. When Mr. and Ms. Keet found out their youngest son was a mutant they were devastated. The idea that they'd love and raise a child only to have him ripped from their arms weighed heavily on them until they both decided it was better to give Isaac away. The three older Keet siblings adamantly refused their parents wishes until they relented to their demands of keeping him. Isaac grew up happy with his siblings even though he could feel sadness from them growing up, he knew that all three of them loved him deeply and tried their best to raise him themselves. Mr. and Mrs. Keet ignored their youngest son but Isaac still felt some affection for them. As he grew up Isaac found out why his siblings looked at him with sad eyes and so he steeled himself for an important decision. By the time Isaac reached his sixteenth birthday, everybody had their own lives. The oldest Keet son worked as an accountant with a family of his own, the only Daughter was working on her medical degree and the second youngest son was just finishing high school. Each of them was willing to take care of him even now to the sanctuaries. His birthday party was a memory Isaac will always cherish. It was a moment in time where everybody knew what would happen but where nobody wanted to ruin the celebration. Isaac cut his cake, laughed with his friends and families then went to sleep. The young man woke in the middle of the night with his bags packed and his papers sorted to the nearest government building to be assigned a sanctuary. He knew that his parents would never go with him but that he could never bring himself to have one of his siblings take care of him again especially when each had a life of their own. It was a cold and dark walk that night, strange too since it was raining specifically in that area but Isaac wiped his eyes with a sniffle and kept walking to his new life.
@KatherinWinter Wait are you saying he's not allowed to create anything or the explanation of the creation of nothing? If it's the latter, think of it like the removal of energy and therefore the creation of an Absence(Nothing). Darkness and Shadows are just the lack or absence of light energies so his biggest power right now is to remove light energy, therefore, creating a lack of light to make darkness and cover areas. I didn't want to just get him stuck on that so I figured with enough time he can create Silence(Removal of Sounds Energy) or Cold(Removal of Thermal Energy). If I really wanted to be OP i'd probably also make it so his powers can Remove Gravity, Making him fly and sending people to space, or Remove kinetic energy, Being able to completely negate punches and bullets, but I think those are end goal stuff or probably something I'm cool him not being able to do. If you were just asking for clarification and not asking me to change his OP powers should I just basically write in the character sheet what I wrote here?
@JImFromTheOfice I understand not wanting to limit your character but there has to be a limit. He's too close to being OP. Even if you don't use all the abilities he could have eventually.
