Cricket:

{Doth the insect?}

Tropical, humid, full to the brim with trees, vines, and all sorts of foliage of exotic type, the jungle was surely a splendid place wasn't it? The cries of animal, normal, warning, dying, all of them blended in with the environment in a diverse yet fitting crescendo that one could appreciate, even int he depths of the wild untamed land. However, one such patch of land was devoid of most of it. Everything about the areas instincts made it so, because what sat there, as unassuming as it was, was incredibly dangerous. A loud crunch could be heard as the creature in question was hunched over slightly and, despite no visible mouth, clearly bit through what looked like an oversized coconut like fruit easily despite the obviously hard epidermis of the fruit.

What it was could be described as strange to say the least. Sharp barbed looking antennas stuck out atop the creatures smooth round head. Likewise round eyes seemed to barely hold any sign of pupil or cornea, mostly oversized bulbous iris' with small black dots in the very center counting as everything else. This hairless head sat atop a thick neck that likewise sat atop a strange segmented looking but held together rigid triangular like torso, the back being oddly smooth with the shoulders sticking out almost like some makeshift armor. On this torso were jointed but malleable somewhat lithe looking arms that bore three sharp fingered (thumb pinky and middle finger) hands, and below the waist line sat likewise smooth jointed lithe legs with two toed feet. Everything on the creature looked, most likely felt moist, and had a strange quality to it that almost seemed like an exoskeleton but, perhaps due to its palish white-liquidy color one could literally see, to a certain depth, into the creature and clearly see an inner skeletal structure, compacted with muscles, organs, and all!

Thus was Cricket, the 5'9 Volucris Desultor a rarity even in its home world but a deceptively powerful insect like creature! Despite this, for the most part the creature was solitary, honestly friendly to most that approached it without instigating any harmful sort of actions (or if it was given the variety of foods it could eat). Minding its own, alone and eating, left to itself by the forest and its occupants, Crickets head stretched forward a bit, its current stance, fruit in hand, being something that could only be described as a 'Spider-Man crouched on all limbs' stance.

"...Chirp!"

Fallowed by a simple random call from a creature that apparently didnt have a mouth but could eat. Such was the way with Dumb Animals, especially insects that stood on two feet! @Griffintaur

The humanoid insect wasn't the only bizzare creature lurking about the dense foliage. The beast in question was a peculiar mix of things. Harboring traits from the fearsome lion and the predatory eagle, one with a keen eye and familiarity with old folklore would surmise this was indeed the hybrid of legend known as the Griffin. His body was primarily feline with tawny brown fur encompassing his toned frame. His white feathered head and gold taloned feet were his more avian traits. Additionally, jutting from his shoulder blades was a remarkably resilient set of wings as pitch as the midnight sky appearing not unlike a cape. Besides standing upright with bipedal locomotion, the other oddity was the various webbed extremities present on him. This included the trio of fin shaped constructs hanging from his plumaged cranium as well as his paws and talons being joined together by translucent skin. What more were the soft russet scales lined along his midsection and along the underside of his lengthy tail. These aquatic adaptions were attributed to him by the Aerasginero; a sea-dwelling warrior subspecies of Griffins.

Tharraleos was this avid adventurer's designation. Initially, it was an aimless stroll through this region after finding it during his usual travels. Though before long, a 6th sense of his subconsciously brought him to a specific location. Every last creature residing here was prey to him and this was an uncontested fact. There was, however, the most feint of lingering suspicions the title of alpha predator was being challenged. Something out there was a potential threat and this needed to be investigated immediately. Not that Tharr was fearful, just merely amused and fascinated. More often than not it turned out he was overhyping himself, but his desire to seek notable adversaries had reached a point not experienced in some time.

Trailing the tracks of the fleeing forest denizens and the ever present ominous feeling in his gut, the Seagriff came across a suspiciously tranquility portion of the greenery. A loud crack was registered through his powerful eardrums in the near distance. It almost sounded as if something crunched Its way through a skull. The mild increase of heartbeat was the indication he was soon to discover what brought him this way. The usual heavy taloned feet took much more quieter steps as he made his gradual approach. It wouldn't long before the insectoid would be found. He wasn't exactly being stealthy, as once he stepped into a small clearing, a figure in his peripherals a safe distance away was registered. Turning his feathered head, Cricket was seen in its hunkered stance, likely now staring at this new visitor. A raised eyebrow was the initial reaction upon seeing the thing as if he was attempting to piece together what it was that stood before him.

“What are you?” Inquired the beast. His vocals were at such ferocity they appeared to vibrate the air around him. His tone was just as unyielding as his stare and there was an heir of sophistication in his words. One with potent eardrums might be able to distinguish a feint Greek accent. He would blink, occasionally, eyelids sweeping upwards much like his avian kin. He turned to face Cricket and at this point it was difficult to determine just how threatening either of them were. No armor, weapons or even clothing were present and Tharr’s stance was rather lax. How dangerous could someone so nakedly armed be? Surely such would be discovered soon enough.

Crickent

{The Bird and the bug.}

Beasts have their own way of knowing things, don’t they? The flying beast would find as soon as it landed, hell, even sooner the insects posture had originally changed from before. Hunched over still in its ‘Spider-Man’ stances, possibly to the chock of the noble beast he’d find the minute he entered the little spot Cricket inhabited, it was looking directly at him. It was not expecting the proud creature put before it, no. Unbeknownst to most aside those that studied Crickets type, its antennas actually served as a long range (a mile or so) highly sensitive motion sensor. The noble beast before it had been detected before it even got here and the direction he came from was looked at and as its antennas told it, boom, there it was. Normally other small animals and the like would not make it do such a motion but those motion sensors detected whatever was approaching was big, so what modicum of interest and curiosity got the best of it and well, here we are now.

Oddly round head tilted as it regarded the creature. Things such as fear and most other such emotions escaped the dumb bug, but it was a cautious thing if anything else, especially around such things as what stood before it. Big, mammalian with what looked like Reptilian traits, all these things bore semblance to creatures from Crickets home planets who had tried to do it harm and, to put it bluntly, failed. Head stretching out, thin nostrils silently sniffing the air were the other beast was, signs of a mouth could possibly be deduced then as the lower portion of its head shifted a tad bit out of place.

“….Chirrraaaaaaaaaa.”

And a low sound, not a growl, but a general ‘call’ for no apparent reason was let loose from the Insectoids unseen mouth. Words completely went over Crickets head. Whether it was a challenge or not was up to debate but unlike the noble beast before it Cricket was as was stated a few times; a big ol’ dumb bug.

Head swaying a tad bit the creature stopped in place suddenly.

Ki-kle…Kik…Ki…Chiiii…KLIK!!!!”

And suddenly made odd retching sounds fallowed by a gack like noise and its turning its head away from the beast and the lower portion of its head shifted a tad bit outward. With a wet slop, something flew out from the unseen mouth of the creature. Landing into a tree, a solid yellow bone like stinger tipped protrusion stuck to said tree, and kept what appeared to be a deathly-rotten purple black open pores littered ‘bag’ swung to and through gently against the tree, light hissing sounds going off as green liquid and matter-based substances leaked from the pores, obviously acidic as they melted through other physical objects they came into contact with. Quite a strange feet, the end result being Cricket scratching the left side of its head with its left hand, shaking said head a bit before regarding the other beast before it again.

“….Chirp!”

And letting lose another odd little chirp. A strange creature with strange sounds and signals and a thing that came out of it, that was noticeably pulsing at that. Quite the combo…

It was quite obvious diplomacy was not even a possibility. The Griff's somewhat relaxed stance notably tightened as Cricket reacted more to his presence. Such unpredictably was a dangerous thing and caution was definitely most wise. Tharr watched intently at the bizarre display, retaining his usual stoic disposition. He wouldn't be able to leave this place peacefully, not with this thing around. It at least needed to be incapacitated. Surely this would be a mostly simply task.

Without wasting much time, the water enthused bird cat outstretched a robust feathered wing. Rearing the flight bearing limb back then thrusting it forward with immense force, a barely visible construct of crescent shaped air was formed and released from the surface of the black plumage. It was sent hurdling towards the bug with moderate speed. The usual sharpness of which would dwindle by the time it reached its target, but if struck, would still register enough knockback to cause some instability. Tharraleos was testing the capabilities of this creature to formulate his own plan of attack. He'd attempt to keep some distance for now, but still was more than ready for a close ranged scuffle if need be.

Cricket:

{Air Bender}

If there was any other means to deduce the insectasoids lack of intelligence it would honestly be in this moment. Tharr postured, moved, causing Cricket to tilt it's head up a bit more but nothing more. No planning, no obvious intent of moving from what was a shift of the insectoids opponent and this and the lack of a sense of self awareness and intelligence, meant the poor creature would pay.

"ChirAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!"

In the form of what started off as a curious little noise turned absolutely pain filled! The wind crescent hit dead on around the center of Crickets chest. Lack of preparing and general light looking weight and height meant even at a modest strength and pace, the insectoid would be sent hurdling back, seemingly through the air.

"...Keeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyssssssssssssss!"

But during the process something like a very angry cry took place and with a loud crushing THUMP like sound, while in mid drift, Cricket sunk its right arm into a tree it was flying by and visibly pulled itself with strangely practiced looking efficiency against it, body snapping as it plunged right into. Sharp nailed feet sunk into the thick looking oaks sides as it landed and oddly enough, its arms rounded about to move above its head.

"CHIRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"

A bellowing cry was let loose, one of fury, anger, and somewhat challenge as Crickets arms pushed, and effortlessly, snapped the chunk of the tree it clung to clear in half and pushed it downward towards Tharr. This was not a bending or manipulation either, no, despite the height and not so heavy looking weight of Cricket it had a unpreceded level of strength enough to just push on and send the mentioned long thick tree down towards the top of Thars head. Unless impeded, the Insectoid would crawl atop the spot of the former chunk of the tree inhibited, perched, possible mandibles moving before standing upright, hands clenched into fists.

"SIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

Loud, shrill, but somewhat threatening, the literal 'chest pushing' motion showed a few things. First was the creatures mouth itself, two simple pointed mandibles with a hallow inside but a single hole that bore a hole/throat filled to the brim with organic barbs, purple fluid, and strange looking spikes a horrifying thing to be caught in, alive or dead. Second was the fact the Griffins attack had done SOME damage; a dent in Crickets chest, looked like cracked grass and was leaking a clear colorless liquid but something that obviously didnt bother the creature to much, displayed strength being shown as well as durability. Lastly, was somewhere on the upper right part of the insectoids chest, it appeared three spherical lights, one yellow, one red, and one dark blue had formed and began to both turn in place and grow brighter with each passing second.

Challenge thrown, challenge accepted!

Away from them both, the odd thing the insectoid had flung seemed to pulse more, grow, acidic matter continuing to dribble from poors...and it appeared dime sized silver colored roach like creatures were crawling out despite the acid. Something in the works, for sure!
