Chapter 1:
Run and Gun

It was an empty night. Clouds covered the sky and painted it in dark grey, hiding the moon as well as all the stars. A gentle cold breeze brushed past the quiet streets, along with the chirping of crickets and the hooting of owls. No cars, no motorcycles, nothing. Just a silent, cold night like any other.

Several soldiers clad in military vests were roaming the city. They had their weapons clasped tightly in their hands and held right in front of their chests, staying cautious of whatever could be in their surroundings. Their job was to patrol the city, making sure nothing unwanted has been planned in the backgrounds. Lately, the government had been very aggressive when it comes to law enforcement, and the sudden existence of a large quantity of night patrol groups prove just that. I wouldn't blame them - With the recent series of continuous public attacks caused by the mutants, it would only be reasonable for them to create some kind of anti-measures to keep the civilians safe.

But the mutants had their own agenda, one that clearly show they have no intentions of obeying the rules. On that night, a rebellion meeting was about to be held in a local church, and several mutants were invited to join. They were hiding in various locations around the city, but their destination was the same: The neighborhood's local bar, Luxury Liquor.

Jacquelyn

A black van drove past the neighborhood and stopped in front of the community park, where a group of men in black clothes emerged from inside the van. The badges attached to their suits seem to indicate some sort of relation with the authority - presumably a government agent of some sorts. They looked around as if they were expecting something, or rather someone, but all they could find was the emptiness of the road.

"..And where is our guest of honor?" A deep, raspy voice spoke from inside the van.

"He doesn't seem to be here anywhere, Colonel Peeves" one of them answered. "I'm sorry, but mind if I ask if this is the right location?"

"You speak as if I hadn't checked that already," the colonel said as he got out of the van himself, weapon in his metallic arm.
"Search the area. We are not heading back until we find the man."

Hugo

Hugo took a while in his own car, steadily preparing his handgun and using his suit. He used a brown leather jacket to cover the suit and quickly got out of his car to gather up with the rest of the agents. The agents looked at him with confusion, he was the only one that didn't wear any heavy ballistic vests nor powerful firearms.

"Navarro, are you planning your funeral already?" One of them joked as the others tried to hide their laughs.

"I will gladly laugh back if today's your funeral," Hugo simply replied with a smirk, "So, Colonel, what are our orders?"

Jack walked past his men and looked into Hugo's hollow eyes, arms opened as if he was expecting something from him.
"I'd say it is a pleasure to meet you, detective, but we've already got a handful to deal with" he told, proceeding to reveal a sealed folder of some sorts and handing it over to Hugo.

"These were the files sent from our lapdogs scattered all over Brooklyn. Their reports all point to the same thing, a coup de grace initiative, starting from the destruction of a ministry office. Not only were we able to process that, but we were also able to find out some of them were meeting up tonight."

One of Jack's men threw him a small circular device, which Jack handed over to Hugo.

"Our mission here is to find that meeting spot and bring an end to tonight's charade. These are what we'll be using to communicate with each other." he explained.

Hugo took the device and wore it on. He noticed that the streets are full of agents, they are armed to the teeth. On the other hand, Hugo noticed that there are no civilians out tonight.

"Sir, is it necessary to bring... what, a whole battalion for this?" Hugo questioned, "Do you call this a part of the security?"

"Duh, it is a part of the security. We signed up for this because we want to keep the people safe," One of the agents replied.

Hugo looked at the agent with a stern face and replied with a sigh, he couldn't find anything practical about deploying an army of rough and violent enforcers to the streets. These so-called enforcers bare the reason of protecting the people but what they do is starting a massive shootout that can only damage the environment and take lives.

"The military is beyond my control, detective. I am merely just a leader of a small group of fighters." Jack replied, turning his back on the rest of the crew.

"This place is huge. We have around an hour to secure the meeting members before they start planning their attack." he told everyone as he began walking away from their meeting point. "Return all captured mutants here. Don't engage in combat unless you absolutely need to."

Before he left the scene, Jack turned around and glared at Hugo with eyes one would describe as filled with both expectations and threats.

"I expect much from you, detective."

Phantasos

At this time, atop the building of New Hope International Academy stood Phan, looking down on the intersection between the NYPD building and Liquor Luxury. Overlooking the squad of enemies below, who were asking checking the area of any mutant activities. There were 8 in total, or at least from what she saw. Two soldiers were patrolling the nearby neighborhood, three patrolling the intersection, two chatting in the street in front of the bar and one talking to an NYPD officer.

"Hmm. They look like they're trigger happy..." Phan wonders to herself. "Well, whatever. They're all sad virgins who play fucknite anyway."

Below, two soldiers were chatting from their posts on Spring Street. The street between NHIA and Liquor Liquor. The other soldiers were busy patrolling the other streets.

"So how's the family?"

"They're pretty good. My daughter just got engaged."

"Is that so? Congrats."

"Yeah. Thanks. How 'bout you?"

"My wife left me for a mutant when she was pregnant with what I thought was my baby but was actually the bastard's baby."

"Oh."

"Yeah."

"Dude, I'm so sor-"

"So. Where we dropping now boys?" Phan suddenly interrupts them out of nowhere, wearing a mask.

The two soldiers were taken aback, but they were prepared for situations like these. They whipped out their guns and aimed at Phan, who suddenly raised her hands as if she was shocked.

"Woah! Woah! Calm down fellas."

"State your name and business." One of the soldiers demanded.

"I have a bomb!"

"What?!"

"Just kidding. I'm a mutant." She smiles.

"Fuck, just shoot her!" The other soldier - who was panicking - shouted.

"Hey be gentl-"

Five shotgun rounds were shot, all aimed at Phan's stomach. She urked in pain, and the soldiers called for their squad members. Her body fell, and the two got closer to inspect it. A waterfall of blood was being formed in the hole of what used to be her stomach. Her mask was still on, but it was dead still.

The two soldiers looked at each other, using body language as if making a sound would wake the body back up. They nod to each other, and one of them reached out to grab the mask while the other made sure to cover for him.

"Hey, what the-..." The soldier that inspected her body started.

"What's wrong?"

"The mask, it won't budge."

"What?"

"It's like it's part of her body..."

But before the other soldier could question him further, the two heard their squad members shout at them. "HEY!!" They turned to the group, four soldiers and one NYPD officer made their way towards them.

"What's wrong?" Their squad leader demanded.

"Look at what we found."

"What is it?"

"It's right over he-"

The two soldiers looked back, and found themselves dumbfounded when they realize the body was gone.

"What the-"

"What is it, sergeant?"

"It was here, sir!"

Meanwhile, Phan snickers to herself as she silently enters Liquor Luxury through the back door.

"Heh, trigger-happy suckers." She smirks.

Entering the dark but alcohol-smelling building, Phan tries to look for the light switch, through the pitch black nothing. She used the walls to help her, and her memory too. The wall was fluffy, as thin, gray cotton surfaced the wall of the backroom. They felt rough on her hand, probably from all the alcohol she accidentally spills from time to time. Sometimes though, she does it on purpose just to irritate her boss. It's fun, and she always cleans up afterwords.

*Click!*

Ah, there it was.

The lights switched on, and revealed the halls of the back. It was creepy, since it's midnight and no one else is here. Of course it feels like an episode of American Horror Story, and what's worse is that she just recently binged the whole series the night before. But it's okay. Nothing is scarier for her than the laboratory.

Finally arriving at a door, she hesitantly opens it.

"I swear to god if Nat had the balls to dress up and scare me I won't hesitate to bomb this pla-"

Luckily, she saw Natalie simply standing in front of a table, with documents and maps scattered on the surface.

"Oh hey boss."
