The starship Arne Saknussemm, was a medium sized tramp freighter bound for the new colony, Cadence IV suffered a catastrophic failure in its HDM mk IV warp drive and was forced to drop out of warp in the 7th of 15 legs some 8.2 months into its journey and 273 LY from Earth. The ship was very effectively stranded far from the nearest inhabited systems and forced into an emergency evacuation onto a ‘primitive’ planet.

The human population of the Arne Saknussemm was divided into two groups, the ship’s crew and passengers (colonists enroute to Cadence). Most are kept in coldsleep for most of the trip. The Crew will be awakened immediately. Colonists will be awakened based on their usefulness to survival. Once it is determined that the alien world upon which they will be forced to make an emergency drop can support life the rest will be awakened. (No point in wasting resources on a lifeless world.)

Now it is a simple statistical fact that most worlds have very little in the way of hostile life - not counting microscopic ones. So weapons will be in short supply. Still humans are adept at creating their own problems, so there will be some. And Cadence was a Class Two world, which meant minimal terraforming needed.

Our world, which will be named Epizoa is a Class One Jungle planet. It has suffered little in the way of extinction level events for a very long time. But continents have drifted apart and rejoined into supercontinents. Dinosaurs have evolved to survive, mostly becoming smaller. Most are comparable in size to the wildlife of Modern Earth - but there is still considerable gigantism. Insects, avians, and mammals have evolved as well, but these serve as the bottom of the food chain.

Humans are about to be added to the menu.
