Biography:
Howard and Helen had a love that was strong, steady, and true. The two were young high school sweethearts, and had to be married just as soon as Howard found the money to slip a ring on Helen's finger. Together they found the home that soon became Rising Sun. It was in a disheveled state when they first bought it but together with lots of elbow grease and patience the two made it shine. Year after year they had many students, numbers in the 50's the two worked as a team to make the youth of the time into upstanding citizens.

Raising everyone's children brought thoughts of having their own children. Time after time they tried but they did not conceive. Thinking that they might have something wrong, they took to a specialist. Both were healthy and young enough to have a child, the problem was all in their head. Trying once more, Helen finally became pregnant with her one and only son; Jack. Jack had been a tough pregnancy on Helen, she constantly felt ill, and was rushed to the hospital early with a premature child. As they raised the child up to show both the parents; the face that they saw caused them both to gasp in horror. Their child had been very disfigured.

Tensions in the marriage became high as Jack grew, he was for the most part a quiet boy but often became mischievous when not given enough attention. During this time Rising Sun classes dwindled down to small numbers of less than 20 children to a year. The drop in attendance caused money to be tight, but Helen fought for the school, she wanted to give a life to children that she could not give her own.

Howard's death was hard on Helen. Emotionally and physically she became weak, and her age was not helping her. Classes became smaller and smaller, and she knew that she would have to retire soon. Not wanting to leave the home she helped build from the ground up, she refused to go to a nursing home and brought in an old student as a caretaker. Though a bit snippy with them sometime she cares for them and enjoys their company in the lonely over sized house.

With her health deteriorating daily, Helen wanted to spend a nice weekend with her last class she taught. With lots of preparation and help from her caretaker, the two put together a very well sized feast, a clean home, and found each and every one of the students to invite.

Soon they would all be together, and reminisce about the past and dream about the future.

She tends to keep herself busy, afraid of wasting even a few moments of the day; although she has tried to slow down a bit since moving in with Ms. Deville. She likes to talk and tends to be on the loud side, but puts in the effort to be quieter when around her old teacher. She is grateful to Ms. Deville for everything that she’s done, and is terrified of what her life will look like after her old teacher is gone.

+ Beautiful weather
+ Trying new recipes
+ Urban/street art

Other:
Fluent in Spanish; estranged from her parents; considers Ms. Deville to be her closest family

Biography:
Valerie is the second child of Manuel & Lola Romero, a couple who emigrated from Honduras in the early 1980s. The other children in her class occasionally made fun of her for her non-Americanized family; whenever this happened, Valerie would deflect the teasing toward the poor student or, more commonly, toward Jack. Although she did her best to hide how it got to her, it made her resent her family and her culture for a long time.

Her parents instilled a good work ethic into Valerie from a young age. They encouraged her to pursue her passions; and when she announced a dream of going to medical school when she was 12, they did everything they could to support her. She graduated from high school with honours, and attended the University of New Orleans for pre-nursing with a full scholarship.

While at university, Valerie realized that she was gay; she met another woman, Andrea, in the pre-nursing program, and the two formed a relationship. Knowing that her conservative Catholic family would not approve of the relationship or her sexuality, Valerie kept it hidden from them until her graduation, when Andrea accidentally let it slip to Valerie’s mother. Valerie was immediately forced out of the house, and hasn’t spoken to her parents since. She temporarily moved in with Andrea, but their relationship soon went south as well, leaving Valerie on her own.

Hoping to save enough money to go to graduate school, Valerie registered as a geriatric aide. She worked in a nursing home for a few years before resigning the position, instead signing up with an agency that matched caretakers to people who need them. Because of a shortage in geriatric aides, as well as her exemplary work at the nursing home, she was given the opportunity to choose which case to take - and, upon seeing her old teacher’s name on the list, didn’t think twice about the decision.

Learning about Jack was a shock for Valerie: the first time she was asked to bring food to the basement, she was confused by the request but obeyed without question. Seeing her old classmate, grown up but still wearing his mask, left her without words. It took her a full week to work up the courage to ask Ms. Deville about it; and when she received what was essentially a nonanswer, Valerie decided it was best to stay out of it. She interacted with Jack very seldomly, only venturing into the basement to bring him his meals, and not speaking to him or even looking at him when doing so.

When Ms. Deville asked her to help put together a reunion for her old classmates, Valerie was thrilled, and more than happy to help with the planning. She did everything she could to help prepare for the event, and is looking forward to seeing her old classmates again.

Name:
Donald Jamieson Laclède

Age:
31

Gender:
Male

Sexuality:
Heterosexual

Role:
Accidental Athlete

Confident Eremitic Impulsive Sarcastic

Personality:
Donnie has changed a great deal since his time at Rising Sun. To summarize, Donnie isn’t a man who enjoys the “stereotypical jock asshole” role anymore – though he understands it was because he was that cocksure, antagonistic, and competitive young man that he got as far as he did in as short of a time. He’s thrown away the over-competiveness out the window, though he still holds onto his sense of humor and assertiveness. For those that personally know him they understand the car accident has irrevocably changed him; there is a sadness and sorrow that follows him no matter how much he puts on a strong face for it. For his peers at Rising Sun, they might not recognize him.

Hobbies & Interests:
» Acting
» Baseball
» Contemporary Meditation

Likes & Dislikes:
» Cajun Cuisine
» R&B, particularly of the tradtional kind
» Televised Sports
» Travelling
» Writing

» Cars
» Confrontation
» E-Sports
» Talking about “Hollywood”
» Worrying about his daughter

Other:
Donnie is fluent in French and Spanish.

Biography:
Donnie Laclède is a former professional baseball player for the Houston Astros, a team he played for two years before a devastating car accident in 2011 took a major toll on him. He still blames himself for the death of his wife in said accident, finding the injury he sustained after the accident a pertinent reminder of one of the worst mistakes he made in his life and what it cost him. His only child, a daughter named Jennifer was two years old and not in the car at the time. Since the accident Donnie has become a prolific sports personality and television actor – he currently stars in the television show “Equilibrium” about a sports commentator in Los Angeles and the drama that surrounds his life.

But what about his life before baseball and his family? Donnie insists it’s a very boring story and in many ways it is, but it does shed some light on where he came from and how far he has come from who he used to be.

Rising Sun Elementary School was the beginning of Donnie’s competitive drive to be the “best” and for many it seemed that Donnie was the aggressor in their day-to-day lives. He was viciously sarcastic, often teasing others for one reason or another. He didn’t think much of it at the time as he saw it as endlessly amusing, but by the time he was in his late twenties, he realized how absolutely terrible he had been. A unhappy kid who was happy bringing down others to his level; to relish in them to be as unhappy as he was following his parent’s divorce in 1995. But time eventually passed and he made it to a major college on an athletic scholarship and eventually to Professional Baseball.
