Pokemon Slice of Life

So what I’m looking at is an slice of life RP based in the world of Pokemon. You can be a trainer, gym leader, scientist, researcher, explorer...whatever you can think of (within reason of course lol).

I’m not concerned on numbers whether it’s me and one other person or fifty other people. I just want a living world where people can explore the world of Pokemon.

So anyway, a few tidbits to be aware of about this version of the world:

-Based 40 years after the initial series
-It’ll be based in Kanto but there will be the opportunity for travel later on
-You don’t have to be a trainer if you don’t want to be
-There won’t be any true legendary or mythical Pokemon available for capture apart from special events
-For those that want to battle you can feel free to RP it or use Showdown
-You'll be playing as humans, unfortunately not Pokemon playable characters.

@CaptainSully So since its 40 years after the original (Around 2035 I'm guessing) its in the future. How much have things changed/advanced in that time? And since its so far in the future most/all of the old gym leaders and characters would've retired so its kind of a new Kanto.

@Walulululuigi Well ideally I’d want a bit more realism in the sense that parents don’t let their 12 year olds go wandering off on their own In terms of changes the biggest would be the defeat of Team Rocket and the creation of the Oak Institute. The OI have made it so Pokemon flourish in each and every part of the world. This is so people can catch whatever Pokemon they want, where they are.

As for Gym Leaders and stuff, they will have moved on or retired. It allows someone to become a Gym Leader if they so wish.

That sounds good. I guess I have a few more questions. More information might get more people interested too, hopefully.

1. Can I play multiple characters? I can't keep track of a ton even if I wanted to, but are 2 or 3 characters alright?

2. Do you think Team Rocket remnants/leftovers/other syndicates/gangs can be in the rp?

@Walulululuigi For the most part it will be allowing people to live the life of their characters but every couple of weeks there will be "events" that will bring some unique occurances. Hopefully everyone will get involved with the events, they will involve skipping the IC timeline forward so everyone can logically create a reason why they'd be in the region it is taking place. Other events will be Kanto wide.

Obviously the number of people who join the RP will play a big part in what happens. As I said in the initial post however, I fully intend on seeing this through no matter how many people join.

@CaptainSully for people playing trainers, what 'level' of trainer would you prefer? Just starting up/few badges/experienced?

@medalliahCould be someone starting off, halfway through their badges or even completely recognised and globally famous. Could go as far to be a gym leader if you wish. The only no no will be the Elite Four. Plus once we get started gym leaders will be set so is really only an option prior to starting.

The World

Four decades ago Ash Ketchum the world renowned pokemon trainer called it a day and retired to a far off archipelago from the bright lights and cameras that began to swarm him at the end of his career. The world he left behind has changed somewhat but is for the most part entirely recognisable. Parents are no longer allowed to let their twelve year olds wander off on their own around the region of Kanto meaning the average age of a pokemon trainer has risen to eighteen. In addition to this, pokemon are no longer bound by the regions that they were back when Ash travelled the world. The Oak Institute, named after the late great professor of the same name, has led the way in pokemon conservation efforts for the last twenty years. Now headed by Oak's great grand daughter Arianna Oak, the Institute has seen to breeding programs of pokemon all around the world. This has meant pokemon not native to Kanto are now flourishing alongside the native species.

The infrastructure of the Kanto region is one of the biggest changes. Transport from city to city is quick with roads and train links making travel much easier than previously. Many cities are now directly linked to each other with even Cinnabar Island now being tied to the mainland by a direct bridge over the water to Pallet Town. Pokemarts are still around albeit with much more competition from independent stores and chains. Pokecentres are now all run by the Oak Institute and are able to provide any and all help a pokemon trainer needs.

The RP

Pokemon: Life is an idea I had after taking part in a wonderful RP called SOL City. I honestly suggest you take the time to check it out and to see the world that has been created. The GM's have done a great job and if I can build something half as successful as that I will be happy. I love the Pokemon games and I think the setting would lend itself well to a slice of life setting. The world of Pokemon almost always focusses on the life of the trainers but never the background characters. This RP will allow you to play as one of those characters whether it be a shop owner, pokemon ranger, gym leader or even a trainer if you so wish. Almost anything is acceptable.

I am in this for the long haul and would hope that those who join see this as an opportunity to create something that can last the long term. Ultimately life creeps up on you and bites you in the ass sometimes but as someone who has had that happen to themselves, that's ok. If you need to take some personal time then do so, all I ask is you let me know. You'll always be welcome back.

One thing to be aware of is that the set up of the RP will be made up of chapters. Each chapter will last for a few weeks in the real world but be a single day in game. When a chapter is going to progress everyone will be warned so that they can finish off what they are doing. Occassionally a special event will pop up which may last for longer than a normal chapter. These special events will not be compulsory to take part in but I would hope that people would get themselves involved...prizes await those that do.

The Rules

1. The usual and standard rules of the forum apply. No playing god or taking control of other peoples characters, no being a prick to other people...you know, the usual stuff.

2. This is based on the world of Pokemon so the expectation is for characters to have an anime styled appearance. I am not an avid watcher of all anime, however please avoid using pictures of people from the likes of Pokemon or Dragon Ball. You get the gist, major, well known anime characters. If you struggle to find a picture then you can go here and create your own.

3. The age limit for characters in this is 18+. This is because as a slice of life RP, things will sometimes take a more serious or dark turn. In addition it is to ensure that any budding romances that may occur between characters are totally above board and legal.

4. Try to write to the expected standard of the casual section. I'm not expecting essays but at least one coherent paragraph when interacting with others is expected. When alone then i'd expect to see at least two paragraphs. In addition to this please write in the third person.

5. While characters may not be friendly to each other in game I fully expect people to, at the very least, be civil outside of the game. Anyone breaking this rule will be booted without hesitation.

6. Multiple characters are allowed but I would much prefer one fully fleshed out character over two half-assed characters.

7. I will have missed some rules off because I'm not perfect but as long as you're a decent human being then i'm sure you'll be fine.

8. I just remembered a rule, you are roleplaying as a human. You are not roleplaying as a pokemon or as some sort of weird human pokemon hybrid. While some event's may result in more focus from your pokemons perspective, on the whole you will be playing as your human character.
