Alright, so I don't have really ANY structure to this yet, however- I've been thinking about it for a bit and thought it would be an interesting roleplay. For people who don't know what Rumspringa is- it's a time in an Amish teen's life where they are allowed to leave their life for (usually 2 years, but could be longer-rest of their lives) to see what the "real world" is life in a sense. Most parents want their kids to see the world as a terrible vice filled place and come back home. Some teens see this life, get a real education, have WAY too much freedom and fun and decide not to ever come back.

My idea for the roleplay will be spit out here kind of non-organized; I just want to see if anyone would wanna do this and if anyone has any ideas that would be fantastic!

1) Roleplay starts with a group of teens all from the same community, they will all be 16 and then they can experience it however they'd like all together. The roleplay can be long term because we could split it up into chapters based on their ages.

2) Roleplay starts with a group of teens from 3 different from communities, same premise but I feel like more likely to create some more interesting relationships because why not?

Well- this is just my rambling, so if anyone has a slightest interest or a HUGE interest please comment! Let's talk. I'd want some help too, so if you're really into this and wanting to take a big part in it- pm me and we can become partners in crime in no time :)

I guess I'll take the leap after being gone for the summer and express some interest. Your roleplays never really have failed me in my short time in them, so I have faith this will be enjoyable too ^_^

Though I'll admit, this is certainly outside of what I'm used to when it comes to slice of life rps, but maybe it'll be exactly what I need to get back in the swing of things. Looks like I'll need to do some research into Amish life now too!

Trust me it's something I have never done either, thats why I don't have much structure to it (yet) like I usually try to do- but I figured what could go too wrong with a slice of life/coming of age/getting in shenanigans type roleplay? Glad for your guys interest, i'll keep thinking about stuff-

suggestions always appreciated

We should probably think about the scenarios first, right? Personally, the first option sounds better in terms of making a bit more sense as to how we're all together. Though if the communities are all close together in state, I suppose the second option could make sense too and may allow for a wider variety of characters since the communities could be run with slight variations or tolerances.

Moving onward, I can definitely say that it's a different slice of life RP, one that has a lot of potential for where it could go because we're essentially writing about a massive culture shock, especially if they venture out of state to, say, Florida or California, maybe even Washington or New York. That'd be trip!

It's definitely something I've been thinking about. I am not from the community obviously, so any information would be just be from media as well as our own creative process of sorts? I know already that I don't want to focus on the religious aspect of things too much- (though it's important in their community) I want to focus more on the lack of technology, the modesty, the hardworking ethic to traveling then to a world with cars, phones, movies, drinking, drugs, even as simple as being able to wear a dress that shows off your knees! Culture shock, friendships, and everything that comes with growing up.

Fun part about it too, is that for the people that end up leaving, we will just write them up as going back home. Easy!

@Noodles

Thankyou!! :) Pleasure to have you.

Just so you guys know I will try to get an OOC started by this weekend :) Thanks!

Feel free to keep discussing in here ideas and the like. Maybe browse around for pictures of your character- Definitely don't need to have a photo of an amish girl or boy, but we don't want any big time celebrities either? Try to find natural looks if possible, bonus points from me if you can find the before and after photos!!

From what I've read so far, it's interesting how many actually go back after experiencing what life could be like outside their community. A lot of what I read said that it's generally around 90%, give or take a couple percentage. So for people who don't show interest later on dropping, I guess going home would make sense in this context.

As for the culture shock, I'm sure that could bring about some interesting plot points. I mean, just experiencing something as simple to us as a microwave or seeing pictures on a TV, let alone the concept of fashion, intricate technology and a greater sense of individuality would be overwhelming.

Yes, its super interesting! I watch a lot of docu-series about Amish and the more extreme Mormons where if you aren't following what your parents and their parents and their "leaders" have told you- you might not have a home to come back to. I've seen too where they do the most extreme things they can think of the minute they turn 16. I think it'll definitely be interesting.

Would it be better for us to have this set like it's a group of kids that are "sponsored" per say or should it just be on their free will. I thought about if they are all from the same group, maybe their elders have an initial fund for them, but if they stay longer than the first year they are on their own for cash.

Also for anyone tuning in right now or people that have shown interest so far :) I will start working on the OOC this weekend and for sure will have something up by Sunday (not sure what time, I am CST) for a bit more substance to the idea. If anyone wants to co-gm and has some great ideas/plot lines I would love to team up
