Deckards Ship:
The Vengeance

Pictured here docked within' the Imperial Skylands.

History: Before the ship was retrofitted and renamed, it was christened the SSF Otto. Commissioned in a simpler age, the SSF Otto was designed after the effective Frigates that the Empire commonly used as battleship support ships and Skyforce law enforcement. Due to the lasting stalemate the time would eventually come that Pirates were more a threat to the Skyforce than Gracian Forces and SSF Frigates became the first line of defense against them. Due to their balance between speed and armament there was no more effective a Pirate hunting model of airship than the Frigates.

The SSF Otto functioned in this capacity from the get go and was captained by the young Bounty Hunter Deckard Murdoch. He had proven himself a skillful Airship combatant when the death of a superior officer forced Deckards hand in taking command of a warship he was piloting at the time. This feat awarded him his own ship and role within the Skyforce.

After the events of the Murdoch family tragedy, the SSF Otto was stolen by it's captain who abandoned the Skyforce and renamed the ship The Vengeance.

Armaments:
  • 6 Steam Pressurized Cannons, 3 Port and 3 Starboard.
  • Hookshot Launcher on the bow. 100 yard range with pressurized winch.
  • 4 Spider Silk counter net launchers, 2 Port and 2 Starboard.
  • Solarium Gem equipped Steam Engine with propeller boosters. 4 Props total, Aft port and starboard and Forward port and starboard.

Crew and Culture: Deckard captains a crew of 18 men who run The Vengeance like clockwork. They are loyal and get paid well. The chef, Lee Dukenton, affectionately referred to as Le Duke, prepares meals regularly and takes his work very seriously. WIP

Name: Deckard Murdoch
Gender: Male
Race: Human

Appearance:

Age: 51

Equipment: Stolen poorly functioning Imperial Ember Blade and a Solarium powered fusion plasma pistol of Gracian origin.

Bio:  Captain Deckard Murdock is very open about his past and it is commonly known that he once captained this very ship in the Sky Fleet for the Empire.  At some point during, he had been given a mission that became too personal, by order of a Sky Fleet Admiral, Deckard was to use his own daughter as bait against a rival Plague Doctor Pirate who had a personal vendetta against him. While Deckard hated this tactic it was his wife, dedicated to the Empire above all, who demanded this be done in hopes to finally put the pirate lord down and be able to live in peace. However the worst possible fate befell the Murdoch family. In the final confrontation with the Plague Doctor Pirate, Deckards wife was struck down and his daughter taken.

And so, devastated by the outcome of the mission Deckard Murdoch swore to abandon his loyalty to the Emperor, avenge his wife and hope to rescue his daughter someday. His first step to this end was stealing the ship he has grown accustomed to flying. Customizing it to his liking and re-naming it The Vengeance.

Deckard began a life of freelance work, picking up contracts from anything between cargo heists to transit of public officials. Anything to keep The Vengeance flying in hopes that one say he'd find the Pirate Lord who so wronged him and enact his revenge. From time to time he would be identified by Imperial officers and let free. Deckard can only assume that this is the gift of the Emporer, some small way to try and make up for his Admirals's terrible actions.

Personality: Deckard tries to stay positive but his dark past informs a tortured under layer to everything he does. He thinks of his crew like a family and treats them as such. Tough love when necessary and encouragement when necessary. Lately he's been a little more reckless than usual and doesn't take the time to justify it to his crew.

Relationships:

Vendro - "Vendro is a complicated guy. He's got years upon years of life experiance but he's trapped in an adolescent head. I feel for him sometimes, but he doesn't seem to mind being the way he is... sometimes I envy him really. Still he's the closest person I've got to a first mate. Takes care of everything on the ship needing taking care of and I never have to ask him to do so. That and I've never known a Gracian with as much knowledge on the streets of the Gracian cities as Vendro. And my Flame is he deadly in a pinch. He's loyal, dependable and frankly, he's the closest friend I have in these skys. Just dont tell him I said so. "

Caspra - "Well... I cant say I approve of someone coming along to see a contract through but I understand it's quite personal for her. She seems a bit off to me. Hard to put my finger on it but the way she stares off into the distance, or how she appears to be engaged in a conversation with you only to realise she's just somewhere else entirely in her mind when you solicit a response from her. She's kind of rude I guess but I dont mind. Sort of refreshing I'd say. Over all I'm not sure what I think yet."

Thane - "Being a military man myself I must admit its refreshing to work with someone who doesn't pull any punches. Thane gives it to you straight and pulls valuable wisdom from his extensive experiance. He's an asset to The Vengeance in more ways than I can count. Being that he fought for the Gracian side of the conflict, I go to him often for insight on Gracian military tactics and movement."

Tilly - WIP

Thevros - "Thevros... yeah he's one of the good ones. While it frustrates me I cant get him to kill anyone needs killin', the man lives by a code and I respect that. And anytime I'm in need of a respectable representative, well, Thevros has never said no to playing that role for us. Lately we've had a run of good luck, taking on contracts from wealthy backers and that is due in no small part of Thevros's way with fancy words. People trust him, for good or for ill, they do, and often give us their business. On top of all that, should you ever need guidance in your faith in the Flame, he's your source for wisdom and serenity and I so often do."

Name: Vendro
Gender: Male
Race: Gracian

Appearance:

Age: 71

Equipment and Modifications: Left Palm Data Jack. Right hand can launch 12 feet with retractable cable reel. Single side arm Solarium fusion plasma pistol. Carried with him an array of knives and daggers and flashbang grenades of his own creation.

Bio: It is uncommon to see Gracian children among the millions that exist within' the city. It is rarer still to witness a poor soul who had died and been resurrected at an early age. Thus is the case with Vendro. Murdered at the organic age of 10 and resurrected by a charitable outreach non-profit in Gracia, Vendro was given a junker body and second hand organ replacements and then thrown to the streets. His memory of the incident is flawed being that only organic portions of his brain retained any information. All that he could remember was a silhouette of a fellow Gracian and the sound of 7 gun shots. Convinced this was a murder of passion, Vendro set out to discover his killer, his killers motive and ultimately, hopefully, who he is.

His investigation took him to every corner of Gracia and for this reason he is extremely familiar with the city. This made him a valuable asset for Deckard Murdoch, who often takes contracts that require a visit to their city. So Deckard offered Vendro a home on his ship and a portion of his bounties. Vendro accepted, realizing that 50 years within' Gracia had yielded too few leads and elected to continue his search for answers outside of Gracian territory.

For over 20 years Vendro has sailed the skies with Deckard and the others and used his pay to upgrade his body, download expensive but advanced combat muscle memory programs and a data jack to comb The Grid for information regarding his past.

Name: Caspra Sneedles
Gender: Female
Race: Jantari

Appearance: The following imagine except her Jantari eyes have an Amber glow and often wears welders goggles to hide them.

Age: 41

Equipment and Natural Abilities: WIP

Bio: Hailed as a genius by some and a heretic by others, Dr. Caspra Sneedles is well known in academic circles. She's been employed at the Academy of Alchemy for over 10 years and teaches a wide range of topics, but her truest passion is Quantum Metaphysics, of which she is the worlds only doctoral expert. She's a wild character and therefore loved by her students by keeping her lessons interesting but her peers are often disturbed by her perspective on the universe. Rumors say her mind was warped after peering into The Veil, an other worldly theoretical dimension of some sort. Though when pressed on the subject she simply laughs and says "Now wouldn't THAT be interesting?".

Recently she has run into a bit of hot water after delivering a lecture at a conference where she demonstrated that a few well known physical theories were wrong, theories that have been, practically, scientific scripture for centuries. Through the use of seven Solarium gems, a few natural Dyst crystals, the composition of which Caspra keeps secret, and a mechanism of her own design, she managed to move an apple from one table to another instantly. "Teleportation, tried and true and as real as Sol too". The demonstration didn't go as Caspra had hoped. The concept was too advanced for even the brightest of her peers to comprehend and so she had been accused of misconduct. Accused of setting up an elaborate illusion in an attempt to secure more Imperial funding.

In an attempt to better explain her concepts and keep her position at the Academy of Alchemy, Caspra was ordered to reveal her secrets to The Board. However, and to her horror, Professor Sneedles discovered her journals were stolen from her office. Unable to provide proof that her teleportation mechanism really worked, she was assumed to be an illusionist and a crook and was removed from her position.

Caspra had a hunch who took her belongings, drafted a contract and hired Deckard Murdoch to help her find her missing property. She's been with the crew for a few weeks by the time our game starts.

Personality: Whimsical, wild, unpredictable and curious. She treats people with kindness in general but has little regard for people who offer little value to the world. She's quick to judgment but doesn't use her immense intelligence to feel superior, she just assumes she can figure people out quicker than most. It's possible her Jantari sensibilities help to inform these judgments. She finds the natural world fascinating and the super natural world boring and ridiculous. She often treats dedicated believers in The Flame somewhat poorly.

Relationships:

Deckard - "BORING!"

Vendro - "What a fascinating little enigma Vendro is ya? Old brain and a cocktail of adolescent hormones just wuzzing about as he tries to be a manchine (pronounced Man-sheen. Solarian slang for Gracian). How does'e keep 'is grapple hand from tanglin' durin' retraction I wonder? I'll havta ask 'im if I get the chance Haha! Bloody sad bout 'is roots though ya? Shit, poor boychine don' know his own story. Tragic. I say we all be extra kind the wee lad iffen habit permits. Right?"

Thane - "Manchines personality is as robotic as 'is suit, ya ask me. Snooze! Haha! But bloody facinatin' when'e talks about 'istroy, 'e is. 'E's been there and seen stuff I only read about. Still I cant help but wonder if 'e thinks in ones and zeroes ya? Ironic when 'e's kept more of 'is man parts than any other Gracian I've ever known. Wouldn't want to cross Mr. Cross and make 'im cross ya get me? HAHAHAHA no but really dont. Probably a bad idea. Hahaha. But seriosuly. *ahem*"

Tilly - WIP

Thevros - "Ah the wanker! Haha, been on this ship not but a few weeks an' already we've been chatty bout this and that. 'It not polite to talk of religion and politics' say the weak minded fools on the ground. But not Thevros, nah. E'll talk ya till you're eyes go dull about 'is precious Flame. Bloody fantasy. Ain'y no science innit. Thevros don' care, e'll say "Its a matter of faith" or some such. E's an Amber eyes like yours truly and I can feel it when I get on 'is nerves. Haha bloody fun it is. I respect 'is conviction ya? Ain't no Amber eyes, humey, or manchine ever gonna convince me the Flame is real, an' I expect the opposite is true for Thevros."

Thane "Old Man" Cross

"A nation can only leave a man to die so many times before he doesn't come back"

6'4" Tall, Athletic Build, Grey eyes, Silvering Hair

Gender: Male

Race: Gracian

Age: 568

Abilities:

"A Cut above the Rest" - Due to his breeding Thane is a prime subject of the physical body. making him stronger, faster, and more clever than most unaltered beings. That was back in his Prime, currently he can still beat the average man in most things but can't stand up to those who are physically enhanced

Ocular Implant in Right eye - allows Thane to adjust zoom and switch between view types (Normal, Infrared, Night Vision)

Arm Mounted Weapon Tether - An Electrical jack on Thane's right wrist that can connect to his rifle interfacing with his Ocular Implant allowing it to access a scope like camera mounted on the gun's barrel. Also if Thane would be forced to drop the gun the tether could be reeled back in to quickly rearm Thane in rare circumstances.

Cybernetic Arm - Thane's left arm has been replaced with a Cybernetic Prosthetic. This prosthetic is equipped with a twin energy pistol mounted above the wrist, and a grappling cable mounted underneath the wrist for mobility.

Equipment:

CTS Armor - The "Chameleon Tactical Skin" Armor plating is type of stealth technology that allows the user to blend in almost perfectly with his environment as long as it is not moving. Making Thane almost Invisible when he is sniping.

Old Birtha - Thane's Personal Energy Sniper Rifle, She has been with him for years and always served him well.

Tactical Knife - Nothing fancy just a knife Thane keeps in case of close range combat

Bio:

As a young boy Thane was literally groomed to become part of the Gracian military with both of his parents serving in some form of the armed forces and undergoing genetic enhancement in an attempt to produce the perfect soldier as an offspring. And the product of these enhancements was no failure. Even at a young age it was clear that Thane was faster and stronger than the other children his age. And while most others were sent to grade school Thane was off to the Military Academy.

It was at the academy that Thane really grew to appreciate his enhancements as they put him at the top of his classes. Thane was stronger, faster, smarter, and more agile than any of the other cadets and it made him a target for the other classmates. But still Thane pushed on ending up graduating at the top of his class and was selected to join a special forces division of the Gracian Military "The Black Blades".

Thane's boot camp for the Black Blades was unlike anything he had seen at the academy and he was pushed to his limits every day. It was here where his proficiency with a rifle started to show. It seemed that his reaction times and calculating skills went beyond even his enhanced abilities and it was set so that he would become the "perfect" marksman. But this was not an easy path, it was on his first field operation with the Black Blades that Thane lost his right eye and the first time he had to fight to survive.

Tasked with assassinating a Imperial Admiral, Thane thought he had the easy job of just taking the shot. But things never go as planned the glint of his scope was spotted by a counter sniper who quickly sent a bullet down Thane's scope. Luckily the Scope itself deflected the bullet, but the scope itself basically exploded and lodged glass shards into Thane's eye. One slip up and the mission was aborted the other Blades disappeared leaving Thane alone behind enemy lines and injured. After Two weeks of running, avoiding his enemies, and nearly starving to death Thane finally made it to safety and was picked up by the Black Blades, but by that time it was to late his eye had become infected and would have to be removed.

This was the first time Thane would come to alter his body. He decided to take on a cybernetic eye implant so he wouldn't have to use a scope and risk this kind of failure again. He even went as far as to add a tether line on his arm so he could interface with his rifle better. By the time of his next "failure" Thane spent 276 years with the Black Blades taking on vital missions to "End the War" and in this time there were many times when Thane would be left to survive on his own after a mission as it seemed the Black Blades never really had an exit strategy for their troops.

Thane's second failure was finding out the truth. After a sting of assassination missions against targets that seemed to be advocating for peace Thane decided to do a little investigating of his own and used his time abandoned by the blade find the truth. After a few hints and tracking down the Political Rival Thane saw it, An Imperial Politician in communication with his commanding officer in the Blades. The two spoke for a bit on a well done operation and how the will of a "Bal Collective" had been done. Having a piece of information he could use Thane retreated needing to learn more of this Bal Collective.

Thane would spend his free time in the next three years researching into this Bal Collective but never found much. Although he was able to tie them to assassinations and accidents on both sides of the war that would end up killing or incapacitating those who seemed to be on the path for peace. But the day came when apparently Thane had not been careful enough in covering his tracks while researching and the Bal Collective found out about him. While on route to a mission Thane's squad turned on him attacking him mid flight. Thane's superior strength and ability allowed him to come out the victor, but there was a contingency. An Explosion from within took down his transport it landing somewhere in the Middlelands and gravely injured Thane.

Luck smiled on Thane that day as some human farmers pulled him from the transports wreckage and nursed him back to health. When Thane came to he thanked his rescuers and quietly made his way back to Gracian territory. Upon his return it seemed that Thane had been Blacklisted from most of his contacts, but some old friends owed him a few favors and Thane was able to get himself a cybernetic arm to replace the one he lost in the crash. He also learned that all records of Thane had been erased from the Gracian records. Knowing this wasn't a good sign Thane left the Gracian lands disconnecting himself from the grid to prevent him from being tracked and returning to the Middlelands to plan out his next action.

Thane would spend the next 50 years laying low in the Middlelands acting as a farmer and a bit of hired muscle to keep pirates away. It was after he was sure that the Bal Collective would assume his death that Thane decided to return to civilized life. Luckily the 50 years he had spent as a farmer had tanned Thane's skin and his prosthetics were easy enough to hide allowing Thane to blend in with most of the Empire's culture. Needing a steady source of income to replace his failing body parts Thane began work as a hired gun within the Empire starting to make a name for himself. For the next 200 Years Thane would hide himself making new aliases, never taking off whatever stupid mask he downed for that name and ended up taking 20 different aliases over the span.

Finally 18 years ago Thane ran into Murdoch a kid with a good head on his shoulders and even let Gracian's into his group. So Thane took a chance deciding he might of found a place to settle for a bit he handed over his full "Resume" and opted for a position among the crew. Not being an idiot and looking a gift horse in the mouth Murdoch accepted the proposal and Thane has been a member of the crew since. Still pulling his weight even at his old age.

Personality:

An old soldier at heart. Thane is very rough and has a bit of a dark sense of humor. He isn't afraid to speak his mind and wont sugar coat his words. That said he is loyal to his companions refusing to see one of his own left behind as he once was. Full of old war stories Thane is always willing to spin a tale in his free time.

Relationships:

Deckard - "What can I say about the Boss? He is fair and doesn't discriminate against Gracian. A good leader, able to keep his cool and make the right call. Also really hard to kill... Don't let him know about that job, it was a long time ago..."

Vendro - "I feel bad for the kid, life can be tough and to be murdered at the age of 10 must of really messed with him. Must be weird for him to have spent so little time in his normal skin I mean after this much time I would of upgraded to an adult body if possible."

Caspra - "That girl is a little firecracker to say the least. Has a bit of a funny accent sometimes and is a bit hard to read. But she doesn't bother me much, as long as she keeps herself down on the battlefield we should get her toys back no problem.

Other:
Chef - bit of a seasoned cook. A bit of hands on training and a few downloaded recipe books makes him good at what he does.

Story Teller - A very long life gives Thane a lot of stories to tell, and he isn't shy about it. The Old Man can talk for hours

Name: Thevros Arden
Gender: Male
Race: Jantari

Appearance:

Age: 63

Abilities

Average Jantari environmental sensitivity and telepathy, but unusually high empathic reception. May have occasional slight power of suggestion (spontaneous and uncontrolled), but hard to say because he has a relatively high level of charisma and ability to persuade.

Equipment

He is a pacifist, and as such carries no weapons. He wears simple robes in accordance with his dedication to a life to the Eternal Flame and wears a pair of gauntlets that distort space and gravity with electromagnetic power to do things like dodge blades and redirect projectiles.

Bio

In his past, Thevros was a fast talking, charismatic snake oil salesman. He grew up poor on the streets of a forgettable town that barely fell under the purview of the Empire. Jumping from scheme to scheme, he eventually stumbled upon his cash cow.

Knowing that many in the Middlelands were provincial, religious folk, he would travel from town to town with a unique opportunity. The story told to followers of the Eternal Flame was that the Solarium in an area called to the spirits of the departed loved ones who had died and collected them into itself. He staged demonstrations in which he would take the Solarium into his body (by ingesting it) and could in turn bring messages from beyond the grave.

The demonstration was, of course, purely illusion. His “messages” would be collected ahead of time by a carefully curated team of agents who would work to discover people's personal secrets and stories. And, having “consumed” the Solarium in an area, he would move on to the next town.

All went well for a time and was very profitable, until one tragic day came. A young boy, unabashedly in awe of Thevros and his “power”, took a Solarium fragment from an old vibroblade he found in the wilderness, removed the safety measures, and swallowed the raw Solarium in hopes that he too could speak with the dead.

It resulted, of course, in an inevitable and incredibly painful death. Thevros, already grief stricken as he had taken a liking to the boy, found his problems compounded as the angry townsfolk raided his belongings and found all of the stolen Solarium. They beat him mercilessly and left him impaled on a stake at the edge of town, bleeding out the last of his life.

As luck would have it, he was happened upon by a party of pilgrims, devotees of the Church of the Eternal Flame. They were able to patch him up enough to survive, and surprisingly, even when they found out about his schemes and how he had defamed the Church and its teachings, they still continued to care for him and aid his recovery.

Taken aback by the selflessness of these followers, he sat with them and listened to their interpretations of the true meaning and significance of the Flame. Before long, his heart was touched and he decided to become an acolyte himself, swearing that he would use his abilities from that day only in ways that would make amends for his past.

The time came for his pilgrimage into the world as his rite of passage. He left the enclave and headed out, a path that eventually led to a chance encounter with Deckard and his crew. Intrigued by the diverse company he kept, Thevros saw traveling with them as a chance to explore the true motives of the Gracians, and to have easier journeying to the numerous holy sites that he wanted to see.

That is where he is now, and while their tendencies to start a scuffle are distasteful to him, his presence often provides a necessary balancing force in the crew. He also provides a certain legitimacy as an official member of the Church order, allowing him to grease additional wheels than they'd normally have access to.

Personality

His once jovial demeanor scarred by the tragedy, Thevros is generally a man of few words. He is perpetually curious, especially about the Gracian culture as they do use Solarium in ways the Church finds frivolous. However, his views are more relaxed because they are also often used to improve the quality of life for the Gracians, which to him is more acceptable than used as a weapon. In fact, his gauntlets are powered by Solarium as well which is technically forbidden, but he is practical enough to not want to travel defenseless.

He likes simple pleasures, such as philosophical conversations and a well cooked dinner. As for dislikes, there are few, with the exception of those who mistreat children. This likely stems from his guilt of having seen firsthand what happens when the impressionability of young ones is exploited. In those cases, you almost get the impression that his pacifism could end up taking a back seat to blind rage, at least until he can gather himself.

As for the current conflicts, he sees himself as more of a passive observer than any meaningful part of them.

Relationships

Deckard: “Ah, to be human. Their great blessing is that they actually might live out their short lives before they really reap the consequences of a life so recklessly lived. The captain is a good man driven to opportunistic endeavors by the difficulty of his circumstance, but nonetheless approaches his jobs with a level head and fierce protectiveness for his crew. In all, a worthy and respectable leader.”

Vendro: “I find it difficult to know whether to admire or pity him...I don't know if what they did to him is a gift or a curse. On the one hand, he gets to live a sort of continued life, but on the other, how much of him is machine and how much is living? How can we know how much free will he truly has? Of course, I have come to enjoy his company and would never forsake him, though I do wonder about what comes of the soul when there is such damage to the vessel?”

Caspra: “I'd be foolish to say that I don't have some admiration for her brilliance. Some of the more outlandish things she claims remind me of my old days of schemes and deceptions, yet my empathic sensitivity indicates nothing that she says is contrary to what she truly believes. This of course means that her grasp on reality is tenuous at best. Nonetheless, I will often engage in spirited discussions with her, constantly plumbing the depths of her stubborn refusal to believe that the world can't be picked apart piece by piece--some things are not meant to be known.”

Thane: “ He's a quintessential soldier. I may disagree with his methods, but he carries himself with honor and is efficient, practical, and skilled. He lacks even more than most the attitude of superiority that I always thought Gracians to have, being most concerned with the well-being of everyone BUT himself in most cases. As for his conversational style…well, let's just say I wouldn't go to him for reassurance about a situation. But I always get the sense that with or without words, he is always formulating a plan in case the status quo suddenly gets messy.”
