Inspired by the popular Dutch television series "Kunt u mij de weg naar Hamelen vertellen, meneer?" (Can you tell me the way to Hamelin, sir?), this RP would be about what happens to the children of Hamelin after they are abducted by the Pied Piper. You would play as the children, waking up in a strange place, filled by magic and all kinds of creatures. Your goal is to get back home, though no one seems to really know what "Hamelin" is, let alone how to get there, except maybe the Pied Piper himself...
as children, you are really no good at fighting, so this RP won't be combat-focused. Also, even though your surroundings are magical, you are not. The RP would focus more on exploration and social interaction.
!!! This story is set after the end of the manga, the description will contain a few spoilers !!!
A few years have passed since the world changed dramatically and irreversibly. The war between the DWMA and the Witches came to a close. The new peace treaty promised that new Death Scythes were, under no circumstances, to be created and the witches, in turn, promised that they would cooperate with the new Shinigami and make Death City prosper. The old world order was gone, the threat of Azura’s madness, the conspiracies of the Gorgon Sisters, the leadership of Lord Death, these were things of the past.
Of course, things are never so simple. A new era of unbroken peace was just too good to be true. Chaos was inevitable, and some people were more than ready to welcome it with open arms.
[♦♦♦]
A group of students in DWMA's EAT class received a surprising offer: To spend their summer in a beautiful Mediterranean island, all expenses paid by the academy! An opportunity too good to pass up, especially for young meisters, and all they had to do was to keep the peace in the island. Considering keeping the peace of the world had been an easy job as of late, how bad could that be?
Well, quite bad! Chaos is king in Malum Island.
It is a hideout of witches who live outside of the Witch Order’s rulership, the least dangerous one being those who are doing it for nefarious personal purposes. The local chapter of the DWMA was overtaken by a radical group who believes the news of the passing of Lord Death and the peace treaty are nothing but deceit and those saying such things must be punished. Monsters and corrupted souls are commonplace and many unexplained events occur, sometimes as wild as an entire city changing location.
The civilians seem completely unaware, moving onward with their lives as if everything is business as usual. Only a small group of sane individuals remain, unable to escape the island or to communicate with the outside world as the messages are either cut or twisted into some version of “everything is okay, we are fine!”
The arrival of a group of clueless DWMA students is the first time in months they felt anything close to hope. Unaffected by the local madness but stuck in there thanks to the curse, it is up to them to discover what, or who, is behind this widespread insanity.
=================================
Apple of Discord is an RP based on the series Soul Eater. In it you will play a Demon Weapon (humans who can turn into weapons) or a Meister (The warriors who wield said weapons) as your characters find themselves trapped in an island nation filled with chaotic events and dangerous factions.
As a bizarre summer vacation counterpart to the series’ bizzarre school system, characters won’t have to worry about classes, homework or authority figures, instead being free to explore the local area and perhaps even enjoy it, if they can overlook the whole ‘stuck in a dangerous island’ situation.
Their main ally will be the local resistance group, mostly composed of ex-staff of the local DWMA chapter and normal humans who seem to be able to resist the local insanity. Having been there when things started to go wrong, most meisters and weapons of this group have been cursed to some extent, so their support is mostly in the form of housing, supplies, guidance and training.
================================= Important Concepts
♦ Malum Island
Malum Island is a large island nation in the Mediterranean. The island is about the size of Corsica, and has a bit of everything you’d find in the region. Including volcanoes, abandoned Roman fortresses, eerie old towns full of dark alleyways, bizarre megaliths, and ruins of ancient palaces which may or may not include a maze that houses a terrible beast. It is a bit Sardinia, a bit Crete.
Said to have once housed the infamous witch Circe, the island has always had a reputation for being a strange place, in modern times even being called “the European Bermuda triangle”. Though until recently all of the weirdness in the island were merely minor oddities and rumours.
Since the local DWMA chapter was taken over by mad fanatics, the main characters will be assisted by a resistance member who used to rent out bungalows and apartments to tourists. The locations are now a bit run-down, but nothing a bit of love can’t fix.
♦ Incidents and Crisis
Outside of the main plot-line, the story will be mostly divided in incidents and crisis. Please mention what incident or crisis you are dealing with when making a post.
Incidents are plots that the players can pick to explore. These can include hunting a criminal, raiding an enemy base to give the resistance a foothold, investigating bizarre situations such as an entire village being turned into animals, explore the ruins of an ancient Greek temple and many other things. These can be tackled in simple weapon / meister duos or in groups.
Outside of the ones given by me or any other GM, players can create their own incidents, including controlling enemies if they wish, just needing a quick approval before playing it.
Crisis are incidents of a major scale that cannot be ignored, meaning all characters must acknowledge or react to it. In many cases these will be major changes in the status quo… but it can also include just the typical madness of the island acting up. A curse that forces everyone to use hats is technically a crisis.
These will be handled by the staff only, though players can suggest events.
♦ Secondary Characters and NPCs
Initially the players will make one character that will either be a Meister or a Weapon. Once the initial / introduction phase is over the options to create one or two secondary characters. These require less complex Character Sheets, and will (outside of resistance members) be initially Neutral or Hostile towards the DWMA students.
This way players can also take the roles of recurring villains, wildcards and allies, creating a diverse cast of characters outside of the ones I and any potential staff members make. Examples include: Witches Meisters and Weapons of the rogue group (unlike main characters, you can play both if you wish) Monsters Strong Souls Resistance Members (If a witch, weapon or meister you must add a curse to them) Or even things like fairies, provided they are a concept of the show or manga that can still exist in the world (So no Clowns)
Beyond that, players are free to make NPCs to enhance their play, be it local people, one-off enemies and whatnot.

@Emma I was thinking either free or casual. I'm quite new to this forum (I'm from another rp/tbrpg community), and am not sure where the line between "free" and "casual" is.
Exploration and socialising? Colour me interested. Would this have heavy references to the original show, though? Because I haven't seen it and I might get a bit lost then.

It will follow a similar storyline, so if anything, it is better if you have not seen it.
I suppose now I have to start worldbuilding - the original series relied heavily on soft worldbuilding and soft magic (ie it was not well-defined), which works fine for a series where you have control over the storyline, but doesn't work as well for RPs. I'll try to solidify as much of the world as possible before starting the actual rp thread (looking through summaries of the show as well as rewatching the musical to see how the characters refer to the world's geography (stuff like x land is behind y) to build up an understanding of it, then filling in the gaps, as well as looking at what sort of magic exists in the world, and coming up with rules that describe the wasy the soft magic plays out in the series/musical.
