@kingeditor perfect! I still think Jhimas would be the most likely party member to accept you wholeheartedly, and then vouch for you as the team goes down. But it fits perfectly with your plan.

Also, with the new NPC turning up and eyes of the crowd directed away from the party, Vodalus could potentially sneak in before the church people clock him. So it might buy him some time down the line while they try to work out where in Waterdeep he went.

Posted! I meant to have Ardour address the group (especially since said group changed just now), but I wasn't surer if that messed up anyone's plans... So I left him quietly enjoying the darkness for now.

As for his position, hmm, he'd likely move closer to the corridor where he can see everyone and also see forward. He'd probably like to be somewhere somewhat close to the front for reconnaissance purposes and such. Gotta put that stealth to use.

I'm so sorry I haven't posted yet! I've been really busy.

I'm going to work on my post today, but I was wondering, @Mae, due to Vodalus'... "girth," would there be a chance of the winch breaking when it lowers him down, sending him falling from it? If so, would I have to roll a check or saving throw?

is he considerably heavier than a normal draft horse, @kingeditor? (about 640 to 910 kg according to wikipedia)

@Ellri No, he's about 400 pounds.

Yeah, actually, I guess if the winch let down a horse then Vodalus should be good.

I'll try and post tonight!

Thanks for your patience everyone, I got caught up IRL.

@kingeditor Nope he'll be good, the winch system is usable for people like firbolgs and warforged. If you're interested in doing it for a narrative standpoint, however, then it's entirely possible Voladus - in his eager to go down into the dungeon - attached himself to the payment rope (attached to a bucket at the bottom, used only to bring up coin to pay for the journey back) instead of going down the right way.

EDIT: here is the current Map. Map will always be updated on the 0th IC post too. Tell me what colours you want for your character's name 'cuz right now I'm differentiating by species and that's fantasy racist.

Please note y'all: What's shown on the map is a general consensus of what everyone can conceivably see. However, should a member of the party go ahead, get seperated or notice something the others don't, they will get separate information through PM.

@Mae So I've finally gotten to working on my post, and I was wondering, since I had just decided that Vodalus accidentally stumbles past the platform and into the open air in his rush to get on, forcing him to grab onto the payment rope like you suggested, would he have to make a check or saving throw to prevent from missing it and falling?

@kingeditor Let's start with an acrobatics roll to see if he grabs the rope.

@kingeditor butterfingers, that's not gonna cut it.

So, Vodalus is currently falling and missed grabbing the rope. You can make a dex save now to see how much this smarts, or let me know something you'd like to have Vodalus try to do.

@Mae Ouch!

Would it be possible for Vodalus to try and land on the horse, so as to soften the blow (albeit likely at the horse's expense, unfortunately)?

@Lauder Hey, calm down! It's all for the cause! Surely, Achtend would take one for the team to preserve the life of a pious and totally-not-a-fraud cleric?

The war wizard does not have a suitable spell to prevent a hard landing.

If going by PHB rules, the fall from 140ft deals roughly 14d6 damage. We suspect that will either be very painful, or not painful at all. 42.67m fall is quite far.

@kingeditor@Lauder

After Aurix leads Architend away to a quiet corner, the horse becomes visibly distressed.

@kingeditor duly noted, make that saving throw!

@Lauder@Vertigo@Ellri

@kingeditor You land - surprisingly gracefully considering your midair fumble - on top of Architend, taking 15 damage from the fall. The force of the landing dislodges one of Architend's packs as the draft horse rears in surprise, spilling the contents of his packs everywhere. Next thing you know, Architend is screeching towards the southern wall, making a sharp turn towards Ardour and charging at fall speed, eyes wild.

I'd like Vodalus to make a Riding check at disadvantage or be knocked prone onto the floor as Architend starts gunning for an escape.

What do y'all do?
