Looking for a very small roleplay, one to two people perhaps three.

I know that war roleplays are very common here but I'm interested in a post war setting, or behind the scenes of war, or a small town mostly unaffected. Was thinking second world war but am open to other time periods of course.

I have a lot of general ideas working around me at the moment. The game "Papers, Please" inspired kind of the whole dealing with war without being on the lines part. I've read some stories about kids of Nazi soldiers born to victims of war and their struggles. Even the Chernobyl series and its lessons, themes, great storytelling, though not as directly about war. A background character of war rather than an active participant.

I could make this bigger but I tend to find that one person is much easier to organise with, though if there are a few people interested in taking other roles I will consider making it bigger.

The idea being slice-of-life, real world consequences and situations, and the feeling of focusing on writing small about something big.

In this roleplay I would be responsible for creating the setting, time, and NPC's. You can make as many NPC's as you want as long as they make sense, and a couple of players characters are fine. Think of it more as dropping into a world rather than most 1x1 where you're both part of creating a world. Likewise if you and another person want to play two roles I'm more than happy being the living setting around you.

I'm hoping to make external conflicts just as challenging as internal ones, and I'm adding a money system, which affects the world. Maybe your child is bullied because of their cheap clothes, maybe you have a bad day at work because you're hungry, maybe you save up to go on a train trip to escape someone.

Below are some ideas for characters to play, but please tell me if you have your own.

  • Refugee from warzone
  • Adoptor of a child of war
  • Single parent who lost their partner
  • Single parent whose partner has been conscripted
  • A teacher during wartime
  • Person in a nuclear zone/just outside exclusion zone
  • Person in an area that has recently been taken over by a new country
  • Someone who lives on one side of a border and works on the other
  • A border agent
  • A nurse/doctor near a nuclear zone
  • A nurse/doctor near a warring border
  • You're from one country, your partner is from another. Your home countries are hostile to the other partner
  • A factory worker trying their very best to keep up to demands AND provide
  • <Your idea here?>

I'll give an example of how this might go. I want interactions to be somewhat quick, the idea being that you could fiesably log on, read, make a decision and a quick post, then move on. If you'd like, I can add suggested options, I'll show you what I mean below. Time is usually blocked in 15 minutes to two hours, speaking during an action is always free.

Monday Morning

September 7th
Coins: 175c
It's cloudy this morning

06:00

The little alarm clock sounds that horrible pling. Yourname has not gotten much sleep, but that which they did get was pleasant. It appears that Yourchild is still asleep but they should be up soon, for it is their first day of school. If Yourname wishes to drop their child off at school before work you both need to leave at 7:30, otherwise 7:45 if Yourchild will walk alone. Mail is delivered through the slot at 6:30.

  • Take a shower - 15 min
  • Brush teeth, fix hair, get dressed - 15 min
  • Wake child and help them get ready - 15 min
  • Cook breakfast 15c - 15 min
  • Eat breakfast (If you don't cook, you eat porridge) - 15 minites
  • Repair button on child's shirt - 15 minutes
  • Something else

Example response

Yourname groans as the alarm wakes them much too early. They swat at the little round clock until it finally shuts up. Yourname sits in bed and stretches, their back popping. They push aside the curtains and get a glimpse at the grey sky and let out a sigh. Yourname goes to the bathroom to get ready for work, staring back at their reflection after combing through their hair. After they pull their work clothes on, they walked past Yourchild's room, knocking and calling out for them to wake up. They can get themself ready.

Yourname heads downstairs and sits at the table with the newspaper and reads it while they eat bacon and eggs with toast Ang a glass of orange juice.

(My next response.)

07:00

Getting ready (15), making breakfast (15), eating (15), reading newspaper (15) 150c

In the newspaper Yourname sees a few articles about services and objects for sale. There are three new job openings, two require education or certificate. The nearest city, just two hours by train away, has suffered another terrorist attack. The suspects have been identified but not located.

Yourchild makes it downstairs at 6:30 and joins you at the table in the middle of your breakfast. They eat quickly and sloppily, toast crumbs over their face as they munch on a piece of bacon.

"Mummy/Daddy, can you help me with my homework?" just as you finish your breakfast they put a paper on the table and slide it to you. It seems simple, just some simple addition and subtraction.

  • Look at objects and services for sale
  • Look at job opening
  • Do crossword - 15 min
  • Show comic page to child
  • Help child with homework - 15
  • Repair button on child's shirt - 15 minutes
  • Something else
