Check Out. Who hasn't heard of the fabled land, where we are no longer haunted by the drones of Sekyuritee, the mutated pests that roam the aisles, the tyrannical horror of the Smilers or other nightmares that haunt us daily in the Wal. Some say it is an illusion made up by the Employees to give us false hope, whilst others claim they have seen the pearly doors of Sliding, opening to reveal glimpses of the Unknown Lots. The line to Check Out is soiled with the blood of trippers, lifters and shoppers that have attempted to seek haven and escape the confines of the Mart.

Yet, every shopper eventually learns of the eternal truth about this quest, this unquenched desire, the dream which may come but never will.

The Wal is all.

Think of an average Walmart. Picture it in your mind. Think of every shelf, every sample stand, every product, every waiting line you've been in.

Now, think of a Walmart the size of a city, where banks are Wal-Banks and restaurants serve Walmart branded products. Your apartments are shelving units and you drive a cart to work.

Go even bigger. Think of a Walmart the size of a nation. A Wal-nation. You pay your taxes to the Walmart. Your citizenship is instead a Walmart customer account. No matter what job you take, you are always an employee of Walmart. Your national anthem are Walmart advertising jingle. Your housing complex is located on the 2nd row of a shelf and your neighbor is located across the aisle.

Then, we've reached the logical conclusion. There is no mart anymore. Aisles the size of highways, shelves stories tall, rows upon rows of fridges to populate a city, food courts the size of beaches, signs that have replaced skies and forests of grocery sections. The world has become Wal-World.

The future is the Wal.

Walmageddon: Shopping Spree is an roleplay that is based upon /tg/'s homebrew setting Walmart Apocalypse, which was further derived from a now sadly defunct Wizards of the Coast forum thread spanning hundred of pages long. Taking the concept of a supermarket arcologies to its most logical conclusion and dialing it up beyond safety regulations, Walmageddon is set in a satirical mass-consumerist post-apocalyptic future where Walmart rose in prominence in both socio-economic and political power during the 21st century, spreading and outsourcing its facilities in every part of the globe. The corporation eventually became a sovereign power that was a virtual nation unto itself, with superstores around the globe that acted as miniature cities that could house millions of people inside its confines. After a catastrophic war between the few federal third-world governments that were left and Walmart, humanity was forever sealed within the giant stores that over generations, they would learn to call home.

Pockets of human civilization, known as Departments, live on within the aisles of these humongous supermarkets, whilst the shelves are continually refilled by the deadly Stocker bots who will kill with extreme prejudice if they catch those who try to 'shop-lift'. Those who survive must contend with the myriad of various dangers that inhabit the Wal such as malfunctioning automated artificial intelligences, hostile religious groups such as the Cult of the Smiling One, mutated animals, lobotomised Greeters and worse. Furthermore, rivaling factions and mysterious forces work to claim control of the Wal and ultimately, the future of humanity itself.

You are a Lifter, a catch all term for scavenger for hire in the Wal. You, along with a crew of several other Lifters, have been tasked with delivering a mysterious high value product from the Bargain Bin to an unknown department far away on the other side of the Wal. The risks are high but the payout is even higher. What seemed like a simple package delivery has taken a turn for the worst....

GENDER: "My brethren refer to me as brother. This is enough of an answer for me."

DEPARTMENT: "I hail from the Department of Toys. I fought and hunted for Fort Pathfünder."

AGE: "I have grown to nineteen years of age. I attempt to avoid the Age'B'Gone, as it is... Bad for me."

APPEARANCE: "I am rather short compared to some, standing at only four feet eleven inches and barely weighing over a hundred pounds. My complexion is a pale white: I have dirty dark brown hair that goes past my shoulders, and eyes that shine like the legendary treasure emeralds within the Guidebooks. My physique is solid; I am toned with muscle, and I stand straight with no level of hunching. Despite my size I have strength on my side.

If my body was to be observed, there would be many scars from battles against the Nevergrow. I have scars from cuts taken across my face, torso, back, and legs from the blows I have taken in combat, as well as marks from bites in multiple regions. My proof of combat is hidden behind a helmet fastened from the masks of the Heroes of Old, and cloth armors plated with our finest melded lego. I recently traded for fitting steel-toed boots, and a pair of durable handyman gloves as well.

My only real accessory is a necklace that carries the insignia of my Fort: It is a Pog, black in background with a notably furious Gopher. On the back of every legitimate insignia is a bloodprint of the thumb of it's holder."

RESUME

"I was born into Fort Pathfünder. It's history far exceeds my own, for a time that only the historians have to collect. While I was still an infant, a rogue dorf had attempted to test Age'B'Gone on me as simple sick curiosity. While I did not die from the exposure, it caused an effect on my height that left me shorter than some of my brethren. This did not stop my watchful Ancients from teaching me the ways of our Fort, and how to defend myself.

Despite my size, I overcame my brethren in the training grounds: I bypassed the trials given to me from the Ancients and their knowledge of the Guidebooks. From birth I suppose this was the intention: We always needed soldiers, as the Nevergrow had a tendency to take lives with their constant attacks. I was always told stories of legendary soldiers who fell in glorious combat, and how important they were to the Fort. Dorfs who held back entire sieges; Who initiated raids to gather supplies so that youth like myself may live. These stories made me train harder, and practice day and night to overcome challenges that would be presented to me in the future.

The night I became a piece of the Pathfünder army was the greatest night of my life: The Nevergrow had waged an attack, and I was expected to help defend my Fort from destruction. I followed my brethren into battle and engaged my cousins of nature to shed their blood and gain personal glory. I struck down many, but found myself also being the victim of many attacks. It was only the start of my path to glory, but it was the first step: And without taking a first step, you get nowhere.

I began small doses of Age'B'Gone around the age of 16. I did not wish to become an Ancient before my time was well spent. My request to halt my aging was granted due to my combat ability and benefit to the Fort. But the Age'B'Gone began having an effect I hadn't been warned of prior.

It was a frenzy. My body reacted strangely to the Age'B'Gone; Perhaps because of what happened as a child. It made me extremely aggressive and violent, and it led to me nearly killing one of my brethren. I was locked in isolation for 48 hours before being released and scolded by my Ancients. But after the scolding, they said that nothing is truly a curse to a Dorf: And that I should embrace my reaction somehow. So I requested more Age'B'Gone, with one of my Ancients sharing his dosage with me.

The next time the Evergrow attacked, I once again engaged in battle. I used the Age'B'Gone, and found myself once again in a frenzy. My brethren backed away, and watched as I slaughtered multiple enemies in my blood-curdling rage. I was exhausted from this battle, and though I was not struck down, I did fall among the corpses.

Upon awakening, I was praised by my Ancients. They claimed I had slain enough Nevergrow to prove myself as a worthy Warrior among my Fort. But the affect the rage had on my body was intense: I recalled the feeling in my chest during my frenzy. My heart would beat faster than any Wail drummer. It was possible such things could permanently damage my heart, and lessen my life span. Which meant I could choose to age slower, I would risk dying earlier.

I chose to not repress my aging further.

As I aged, I continued to fight. My life was dedicated to my Fort: I would spill the enemies blood, and at times, my own. But in a way, I began to grow bored. Defending from the same foes yielded the same results, and my raids to Nevergrow camps were not much greater: Nor were my ventures out for supplies. I began to crave more as I grew out of being a child, and instead, found myself rising into dorfhood as a young adult. I craved a challenge. I craved an adventure.

I craved to explore The Wal. A true test of my abilities, and a personal quest of Glory. I would venture out, and become the Adventurer of Legend. I would find an item of great value, and return to my Fort as a Hero. This was my destiny as a Warrior of Fort Pathfünder.

The title of Hero would be mine. Along with the feast that came with it."

LIKES: "What do I like? I have a general amazement of greater technology that I don't have at home. I also have an appreciation for the craftsmanship of people within the Wal; Specifically with weaponry. My favorite snack is Pringles. Despite my need to hunt, I also have a certain love for the animals from my childhood books."

REPUTE: "I do not carry a reputation outside my Department. To my Fort, I am a proud and worthy of praise Warrior. To the Nevergrow, I am a bane. Some Forts may have heard of my battling abilities, but they do not take note of me beyond being a slaughterer of the enemy. Generally, Dorfs seen by the Outsiders in the rest of The Wal are considered 'weird'. Dorfs like myself are usually insulted about their height, or are referred to as "LARPers". "

HEEL: "In the fort we are taught to hate those who deeply regard plant life, specifically trees. They are to be referred to as 'Knife Ears', among other racist slurs. While I am sadistic in combat and take glory in my kills, people like them get the worst of it."

CODE: "I do not allow my comrades to fall in battle. I will stand my ground in order to protect my brethren, or comrades within The Wal. My honor tells me to do so, and my Ancients would have it no other way."

QUIRKS: "I collect trophies of my greatest kills to bring home for stories of my ventures. I also have a bit of a weakness for cute things, be they alive or inanimate."

DUNGEONNEER ► "Every Youth worth their ale is put through the Trials of the Tutorial as told in the Guidebooks: A Dungeon built within the depths of our Fort meant to train us in exploration and problem-solving. SCAVENGER ► "Every trip out from the Fort was a hunt for supplies. As your families get hungry or your armies get frightened, you learn to dig extra deep looking for that one thing that might help. My determination in my searches has lead to more profit than pain."

COLORFUL ARMOR ► "These clothes have been armored by our best plastics. While they make me stand out by being very colorful, it is the best armor my Fort can provide. Better than nothing against the Nevergrow."

BOTTLES'O'FUNGUS ALE(3) ► "This is a Fort Pathfünder classic recipe. There is some sort of Fungus that grows by the lakes; Especially on the Nevergrow's sides. When recovered, Dorfs can turn it into a strange ale: Think of it tasting like pickle juice. Every Pathfünder Dorf loves his Fungus Ale. I wonder if perhaps there is fungus within The Wal that could make better ale?"

FORT INSIGNIA ► "The symbol of Fort Pathfünder is a black pog with a furious gopher depiction on it. I wear it on a necklace; The blood print on the back of the pog belongs to me, and allows me entry into my Fort. It also allows me to attempt to seek temporary asylum within another Fort, though this can simply be denied by the Fort in question."

Blöthmerch stands in as the "go-to edgy combatant" mixed with horrid Dwarf Fortress-tier tendencies and short bursts of cuteness that break his character when encountered with what he likes. Being an extremely serious and dedicated LARPer will also probably lead to some odd reactions, especially when his character is broken by either cute things or new experiences he had never seen before affecting him enough to ditch his character momentarily.

Of course, this is The Wal. His craziness is just one of the many flavors in our vast storefront.

RESUME

Z-Grip or Z, was born into the Zebra Pen Corporation, a clan of minor origami samurai that had served the Stationary Shogun for untold generations. Like her siblings DelGuard, Sharbo, and Sarasa Dry, Z was named after one of the many venerated weapons created centuries ago by her family pengineers.

In her childhood, Z was sent to the live with the Rafters in order to train in the arts of stealth and acrobatics. Tied to the hilt of her paper cutter sword is a single black feather from a dire pigeon, a reminder of her time with the elite Raptor warriors and the proud foe that she vanquished.

A student of the famed martial artist, PIX the Black of Clan Montblanc, Z was trained in the mysterious ways of the Hidden Origami Dragon by the wizened old warrior monk on the sacred Mount Office Depot. While other Stationari hide behind layers of paper armor and metal while wielding cumbersome Yard Stick Katana, Z fights in the manner of penjas of old, utilizing subterfuge, blinding speed, and agile acrobatics to overwhelm her foes.

On the cusp of adulthood, Z seemed poised to become one of the greatest penjas of her generation, having attained a coveted posting to the Stationary Shogunates personal penja guard. However, any hopes of rapid advancement and gaining further honor for her family were dashed in an unforgivable moment of prideful arrogance. What began as a polite debate about penmanship ended in a brutal duel to the death that would change the Writing Instruments section of the Stationary Shogunate forever. Following a heated dispute regarding the superiority of the pen or pencil in honorable combat, Z challenged the heir apparent of the peerless Faber-Castell Clan to a duel. They faced off, and Z struck down the young lord with a single blow, sending a Parker Pen through his right eye. All who witnessed the duel promptly agreed that the pen is in fact the superior writing instrument and applauded the young penja for her skill. Drunk from her victory, Z brought great dishonor upon her family by failing to offer the mourning family of her foe the proper elevenfold sequence of consolatory Hallmark gift cards.

Branded a villain, Z shamed her family with her mere existence. Worse, Z stubbornly refused to restore the honor of her family by committing Sudoku with a sharpened ruler. Ignoring the commands and then increasingly desperate pleas of the family head of the Zebra Pen Corporation, Z fought off a number of challengers from within her own clan than sought to bring her to justice. Eventually, left with no other option and facing a minor insurrection aimed chiefly at seeing Z burned alive, the local daimyo declared Z an honor-less outlaw and exiled her from the Stationary Shogunate with the blessing of the Stationary Shogun himself. Despite her unfortunate exile the young penja remains exceedingly proud of her heritage and will respond with great violence to anyone that dares to sully the name of the most honorable Zebra Pen Corporation or the magnificent Stationary Shogun.

Since the day of her exile, Z has traveled across the departments of the Wal finding work as a Lifter, selling her sword to the highest bidder. Despite her status as a dishonored Stationari, Z has nonetheless managed to make a habit out dueling with followers of the paths of Cereai and other honorable foes when the opportunity presents itself.

PERSONAL GOAL: Z seeks to regain her own personal honor, to restore the honor of her family, and to return to the Stationary Shogunate as a true hero of the Wal.

LIKES: Pens, paper, and rare comics. Having grown up hearing the stories of the legendary Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Z is also particularly fond of turtles or anything bearing their image.

HEEL: A proud warrior of the shadows, Z is a thrill-seeker. Relishing a challenge, she will take unnecessary risks to display her superiority as a penja to an opponent. Heedless of poor odds, she will happily throw herself at mobs of enemies to prove her fearlessness and skill with a pen blade. Truth be told, while others are addicted to all manner of household chemicals and industrial cleaners, Z is addicted to the thrill of danger and the young penja feels alive when her death is only a false step away.

CODE: By performing some impressive mental gymnastics Z has managed to remain an ardent adherent to the warrior code of the Stationari despite her status as a dishonored and exiled penja (a particular class of warriors often derided as "assassins" by other Stationari and Cereai alike).

QUIRKS: Z writes reviews of any noteworthy opponent she has killed on sticky notes which sticks next to the bodies as a mural to her fallen foes. She also maintains an extensive Excel Spreadsheet, a copiously maintained scroll of paper containing information she has gathered since leaving the Stationary Shogunate. Written in her flawless hand, the cursive text is all but impossible to read for another due to the cipher she uses to code her writing.

A legendary weapon once wielded by the equally legendary Origami master Lucky Star before her death in battle against a horde of rampaging Ambuloceti during the Battle of the Beige Shelves, the blade is said to be able to cut through shelves stacked with the thickest paper with only minimal effort from the wielder.

PARKER DUOFOLD PRESTIGE ► Favored by the famed warriors of the New York Times Bestseller List this deadly dagger was molded out of a single solid block of acrylic. The steel forged stiletto blade glides through armor like butter and slips through gaps in protective attire with ease.

THROWING PENS ► Tucked beneath layers of her clothing, Z carries a seemingly endless number and variety of pens sharpened into deadly projectiles. Light, silent, and hard to spot as they sail through the air these cylindrical objects are effective ranged weapons.

INK REFILLS ► To facilitate escapes and to blind her foes, Z has a collection of ink refills that will burst upon impact, coating her foes in various distracting colors of ink.

PENJA GARB ► A close-fitting bodysuit of soft, dark fabric complete with a stylish hood and mask. Lightweight and flexible, it allows stealthy, unimpeded movements. The outfit is lined with hidden pockets, allowing Z to to conceal a wide range of weapons, tools, and penja related items on her person. Paper clip chain armor and small armor plates formed from melted pens have been expertly sewn into the garb to afford Z some additional measure of protection.
