And finally, here is my CS! I was originally intending to go for a medium class Urban Warfare specialist HELIX, but after seeing that we had 3 mediums already, I went with this fun alternative! Hopefully things are alright with this CS. Feel free to critique and help me align things to the world's rules and history. I might have muddled some things up on accident. I am not worried about criticisms as I really love mech RPs and wanna be in this. If I need to make edits, don't hesitate to let me know!

@Whoami. I like it, seeing the frame's body I could see how it would transform with little difficulty, I'll accept it unless anyone else has issues. With the quality of the writing I'll have to say that you all can contribute to the lore if wanted. :)

@Whoami That's a great character sheet! Love the pilot and the mech. Inspired me a little bit too. I look forward to roleplaying with you, and of course everyone else. I simply mean to say, TEACH ME YOUR MECHY WAYS MASTER!

A 90mm gatling, yikes. That’s like a gatling full of these.

@Aptrgangr

Anything under a 30mm on one of these machines is a pop shooter my friend. A gatling 90mm sounds perfect.

I actually seem to remember though I may be wrong, there was a weapon in AC2, that was a twinned 150mm light artillery back attachment. Powerful, but slow firing, and had like 10 rounds.

I based the size of the ammunition off of the GMs earlier statement that 120mm was the standard for HELIX frames. So in relative terms, a 90mm weapon would be sub caliber and fitting for a 'lightweight' rapid fire weapon. Couple that with advances in lightweight durable materials and weaponry as well.

The Zephyr is clearly inspired by fighter jets, based on its role and weaponry. Its gatling is a reference to the guns found on modern jet aircraft, like the M61 Vulcan series of rotary cannon on US planes. Thing is, the Vulcan is a 20mm cannon, easily mounted in the body of an aircraft, while the Zephyr is carrying a honking 90mm artillery cannon gatling. Definitely not a ‘stable,’ ‘lightweight’ weapon the description refers to. And forget about carrying anywhere near 7500 rounds.

Ah maybe. I'm bad at maths, plus I need to research weapon technology more, I'm more of a fighter nerd.

The A10 uses a 30mm and is designed to account for the monstrous recoil by off setting it. So larger than a Vulcan. HELIX frames are much larger and more advanced than a modern day fighter, and it'd be safe to say that as the machine is upsized, so too are the weapons. There's also the consideration that technology has rapidly advanced too. A simple solution for the magazine capacity would be that the ammunition is cashless, and thus is easier to store and lighter in weight. The A10's 30mm cannon also fires like... 30% faster than what the 90mm is spinning at.

On top of all that, this setting is based on the Armored Core universe, and some of the ballistic weaponry in that series is straight up completely impractical and not feasible. In that instance, the rule of cool applies. :P

One of the concepts I wanted to use for a villain involved a large cannon like that.

Guess I’m off to make a frame with a 120mm SMG firing Abrams tank sabot rounds it materializes from a 6,000-capacity pocket dimension. /s

Obviously, it’ll be light and portable enough to fire without detriment to the frame’s mobility - thanks to rule-of-cool future tech™️

Well the same thing could be said about Halo 2's SMG, that it had caseless ammunition to justify it's huge magazine size in such a small, lightweight container. So like, it's not like I'm just materializing these numbers outta nowhere. As for it's effect on mobility when firing, sure, but the zephyr is equipped with massive boosters on the back to maintain it's forward momentum, kinda how the A10 has large engines to counteract the back force of the GAU's recoil.

So yes, rule of cool future tech exists, but there are definitely some more ridiculous examples of 'too much' out there. I also wasn't anticipating to debate semantics in something that is purely meant to be fun fantasy escapism. So really, why does it matter that.much in the first place? Are giant super powered robots not too much already? Why not just make this an RP about tanks since they're so much more practical than humanoid war machines? I guess that wouldn't be as cool.

The A10 is also purely designed as a close-support, ground-attack aircraft. That big GAU is meant to strafe targets on the ground, flying at a low speed.
It isn’t at all an air-superiority fighter like the frame it inspired.

But regardless, I didn’t realize how off-the-rails we were going with this RP. I like mechs, and they definitely require some suspension-of-disbelief to enjoy them, but I was also hoping that the semantics and combat would be more believable.

I just tried to get away without specifying too hard what my stuff was. I'll try to flesh it out with whatever numbers make sense when you lot have had your fun

Apologies for prolonging this debate, I realized with that last post that I was getting a bit worked up over something that really doesn't matter. I'll come back to my original statement that I am open to edits, and leave it up to the group if this silly gatling should be scaled down or if it's fine as is. I personally don't think it's that offensive of a weapon, but it is what it is.

So maybe half the size of the buzzsaws and add missiles? I suppose I could, if I had to... But my philosophy is simple.

To destroy your enemies all you need is the power to do so and the means of efficiently delivering that force, even to the detriment of everything else. I trust human ingenuity for the rest.
I could go with a buster beam or something but that'd bore me. 'You're original or you're nothing' constitutes the second half to that philosophy.
