A galaxy of life, great beasts roaming through the abyss dancing along magnificent ships cutting their way through the black depths. Creatures of all shapes living side by side, from the mighty Creatas to the beautiful Taren. It is a galaxy where life is rarely ever boring, yet for many who seek ever more adventure, there is the practice of "echo hunting".
The Builders - a species now long forgotten left their artefacts scattered all over the galaxy, which are for the most part - deactivated. Yet occasiaonly some fuse sparks into action and for a second it comes to life and in that moment a signal goes out, a ringing echo within ones head. All that's left is to follow the signal back and find whatever awaits, braving space creatures and other hunters alike in the pursuit of the goal.
It is a risky job, braving the soldiers of the great empire of Scion to the mysterious agents of Penumbra academy, but if one succeeds each artifact could net vast amounts of cash, or perhaps something more could be found?
Basic info!
Hey, thanks for checking out this little interest check, I hope the little taster of what this world is like intregues you. This rp is planned to be quite a traditional "epic" space opera, full of weird species, ancient artefacts and lots and lots of adventure. The idea of the rp is that you play a group of "echo hunters" who each for their own reasons have chosen to go out into the depths of space to seek the artefacts left behind by the Builders.
The characters would make up the small crew of one of these Echo hunting ships, having just ventured back out into the unkown and recived the trail of another echo, this one on the borders of Scion space. It's up to them to find this atrefact and perhaps begin unwraveling a trail leading to the greatest secret of the Builders.
The plan is to progress the story forward at a relatively quick pace, giving enough time for character development, but hopefully keeping it quick enough to ensure progress. I'm going to attach some world info on factions/races bellow and I will say, most of this is here as background info, you don't have to read too much of it, apart from the species tab for character info. (though if you wish to introduce your own species or factions, please do speak with me so I can make sure they fit in right)
There isn't a section on them yet as I'm still properly writing up the detail - but a basic description of the stellar entities are a host of bio-mechanical creatures which inhabit space alongside the more sentient races. Ranging from small translucent rock creatures which flitter between asteroids, teleporting space turtles and the truly vast Isaeri who blot out even the biggest of ships.
But if you're here for some good old galaxy spanning space opera sci-fi fun, then please hop on in and later today I'll get a character sheet up! And if you have any questions, please do ask and I'll be happy to try and answer them.
The Factions!
Scion - The oldest and largest galactic domain. Founded by Creatas scholars and engineers after discovering younger and newer species. It’s primary directives are to keep galactic order and use its vast resources to understand and investigate all the “echoes” and ruins left behind by the Builders, however it’s better resources and production has led to several wars against the “Careless” to ensure that precious artefacts are owned solely by it.
Awakened Hive - The central Stratori faction, dominated by the leaders of old, all struggling to adapt in this new space age. It is by far one of the smallest galactic factions, with only a few dozen systems, but those it does own, it fiercely holds onto and defends with fleets and war hives. Despite a hatred for outsiders the occasional Stratori can be seen venturing from its land to explore the outside.
“Enclave” - The unknown home of humanity, a supposed bastion, always moving, always shifting, protected by the largest of the wanderer fleets. Always out of sight and secretive, this bastion provides a home away from it all for humans. Though few outsiders have truly visited the Enclave, it’s presence is still known throughout the galaxy. Some even believe that it was constructed out of old Builder stations.
Galactic Union - A loose coalition of planets and systems, existing on the fringe of Scion space. These people have banded together to protect both themselves and the fragile peace which exists in their sector. Proportions wise, it is the most diverse of the large galactic bodies. Has people dedicated to observing the “Builder” wrecks/echoes, but is the least obsessed with them of any major factions.
“Core systems” - The Core systems are the worlds surrounding the home of the Zhu-Anyi. Heavily organised and militaristic they are led by their spiritual leaders to find strength in the Infinite. In a constant war with the Awakened, with whom they share a mutual border. The war has caused several disagreements with Scion too as the massive empire has yet to move in to contain the war, other issues pulling the great power’s attention away.
Has Cartel - Led by a secretive (in most cases) cabal of tech experts and historians. These people have been able to get their hands on one extremely rare Builder cloaking tech and while they are unable to replicate said phenomena, they’re able to reverse engineer it into a mostly function/stable device for their own people. Obsessed with finding out more about the Builders and their technology and believe it should be kept locked away for everyone's safety.
Penumbra academy - A special academy of psychers dedicated to the collection of Esper and the training of new psychers. They mostly stay out of general politics, instead choosing to keep mostly to themselves, though in rare occasions their services can be given for large shipments of Esper.
“Wanderers” - A term given to those nomads outside of the wandering fleets aligned with the Enclave. Mostly centari in nature, these people are known for their city-ships, vast structures blotting out nearly every other ship, yet still dwarfed by the biggest of the stellar entities
Mechanus - A loose term for a coalition of A.I and entirely cybernetic peoples. They live out near the fringe of the galaxy and are famous for their Digital-Hive. A neural network people of the Mechanus are able to upload themselves into then download into a different body somewhere else.
The species!
Creatas - The large crab-like creatures with inbuilt warp functions. If full they can expend a lot of energy to warp small distances, taking their local vicinity (a small bubble around the creature) with them. The oldest race besides “The Builders” These people are seen by the galaxy as self-indulgent, arrogant and controlling. Yet Scion - the empire founded by the Creatas sees itself as ancient scholars doing their part to protect the galaxy and keep order. (H)
Centari - Originating on a harsh and almost inhospitable world, these insectoidal creatures were the only ones who continued to adapt long-enough to use tools and gain a foothold on their barren planet. This has given rise to heavy self-modification technology, giving a stereotype among other races as always modding and changing themselves. Members of this race were the first to found the Digital-Hive (N/H) Their ships too are considered galactically ugly, having been the slow progression of function over form - if it does it’s job then that works.
Taren - A race of humanoid crystalline beings, with brains of complex silica. Their homeworld is of particular galactic beauty. They rose to the top through their unique ability to turn their own heat energy into actual energy. Thought to be overly philosophical and obsessed with self beauty, Tarens are widely considered vain and arrogant. Yet many of their people are fantastic engineers and soldiers, many living to help Scion bring order. (H)
Stratori - The newest addition to the galactic scene, these spacefaring octopi are few and far between outside of their collection of home systems. Considered by many in the galactic community to be a freak accident this race was the dominant predator on its own planet, rising up to the point of crude civilisation and technology before being accidentally uplifted by crashed Tri-Abol technology. While generally considered “simple” Stratori are not unintelligent, many simply haven’t progressed past their more predatory instincts. They uniquely communicate through glowing rings on their outer limbs, though speech translators have been developed for them. (H)
Tyrana - Small, Squat kobold like creatures and galactically renown introverts. Featuring the smallest galactic population, the Tyrana are not a common sight anywhere beyond large scale communities. Having dispersed rapidly post-space age, these creatures are seen as hard-working engineers withdrawn from galactic politics. While many are engineers as that is the most commonly offered job, Tyranas can still be found doing all sorts of jobs if one looks hard enough. (N/H)
Zhu-Anyi - Of medium height these chameleon like horned beings are one of the most populous in the galaxy, hailing from their heavily urbanised home planet these people are organised and religious and can be considered stiff and authoritarian, particularly by Tyrana or Taren. However they’re also deeply diverse and accepting of others, as well as galactically renowned festivals. (H)
Humans - A race of travelers and explorers and with the second smallest galactic population, humans are considered shy and withdrawn by many in the galactic community for their more nomadic lifestyle. However many humans have integrated into many different communities, but the presence of the wandering fleets and the mysterious “Enclave” a home base of sorts for these fleets has helped reinforce this stereotype. (N/H)
Iago - The tall semi-Aquatic Iago are best known for some of the galaxy's most prolific explorers and adventurers, always pushing the boundaries of what bits of space can be explored and what knowledge of the galactic species can be understood. Still many prefer to live more peaceful and steady lives aboard ships and stations, their slender bodies practically unadapted to life with gravity. (H)
