@Dark Cloud Not a problem, glad to see your race finished :)
You weren't here during that time and I've not managed to edit it yet, but the executive decision has been made to make small a free trait pick. So technically you can pick another neutral trait if you want, but I'd say what you have right now is probably very solid :)
@Dog Very babrebones but I can understand why haha
I'll try and get the proper thread up tomorrow and get something brewing for the actual opening so people aren't bored. Maps and the like I will give to you there, but please be patient haha.
@6slyboy6 Since they are so social can I have a trait that would reflect that? Not like diplomatic, it's just that their general demeanor and attitude as a whole makes them likeable and socially adept but not diplomatically adept.
@6slyboy6 So I have a question, are we all starting in the same-ish location or in different parts of the island? Because the Skitter may be pretty scattered.
@Dark Cloud Don't worry, I'll reign in my autism :D
I'm not completely sure yet... An option I was thinking of: A race of little grey alien men who crash-landed their ship into the planet and got total amnesia. That seems like it might be fun, but sorta min-maxy into intelligence (they'd be total wimps physically). The spaceship they got here on would be destroyed somehow, or inaccessible (probably below a very deep lake or something), so there's no advantage from it. They'd start out same as everyone else.
I also like the idea of the shroomers from that RP, or maybe something arthropod-ish
*Maybe not total amnesia. Maybe they sorta have an idea of where they came from, and it forms their sort of founding myth, around which a religion/culture/society can form. They would likely be very arrogant
@Dark CloudAlso, Mongolians... But they ARE the horses?! Huh? Eh? Horse people anyone? Have to have some sort of mammal that isn't human or elf
Also a counterbalance to the Sobek, who I like the look of very much. Big strong type creatures. Mammals would be more mammalian though, their societies would be fundamentally different
*Mushrooms are still a tempting option, will decide eventually. Don't feel too much like doing bugs
@Dark CloudThey are, but they're still reptilian. Having some large mammal race would help even things out in that sort of way. I imagine this race would be much more hot-headed and passionate. More active. More generally mammalian. *Side note, I love me some Kobolds
I suppose Mushrooms would be pretty unique from the other races so far
Members of this species are often on the move, displaying a natural urge to get a change of scenery. While they enjoy a well of stamina far greater than their peers to keep them going, if forced to stay put for a generation or more they will begin to become increasingly anxious and even unruly. Not to be bogged down in a single location, they are constantly shifting their homes and own only items that they can carry.
Ears and Tassel Tails (0/Does not cost picks):
The takhal possess long, slender ears and large tails with a tassel-like structures at their end. Both are important social communicators.
(Functional)
Athletic (-1/0 points 2 picks): Members of this species, through evolution or adaptation, have developed a robust cardiovascular system that allows them to keep doing physically demanding tasks for much longer than others, and deal with the generated heat more efficiently.
Herculean (-2/-2 points 1 pick):
Members of this species could hardly be called natural, even by a stretch of the word. Their imposing frames hold an disproportional amount of muscles mass compared to the size of their bodies. They are naturally much heavier than average, and they can lift weight several times of their own body mass. Though physically demanding, their bodies needing much more nutrients to keep them running, the benefits of this Herculean strength are undeniable.
Rigid Bones (+2/0 points 0 picks):
Bones are particularly hard to break, but when they are broken they are unable to heal properly.
RACE PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
(Illustration by yours truly, not very refined I know, may be tweaked later. Plz don't steal)
The takhal are a physically imposing race, with males standing around 8.5 feet (2.6 meters) and females just over 7 feet (2.1 meters). Their features can be described as broadly equine— a covering of short, thick fur, long manes that grow along their spine and head, tails, slender ears that come to stout points, and long faces that accommodate round noses and tough jaws. Their eyes are fairly small for a creature of their size, with little or no sclera exposed, and horizontally slit pupils. They are bipedal, standing on digitigrade legs that end in hooves (that are closer to goat hooves than horse hooves anatomically). Their frames are incredibly thickly muscled, especially their legs.
POPULATION:
To be decided.
RACE BEHAVIOUR:
The behavior of the takhal is dependent on their sex, age, and size, among other things. Typically, they are hardy, pragmatic creatures with conservative tendencies and a very headstrong disposition. They prefer the company of others of their kind, especially family. To smaller creatures, their size can be frightening, but unless provoked they generally refrain from violence. They are not stealthy in the least, and in combat will utilize their superior mobility to get advantage of foes. Despite their conservative nature, they live a lifestyle that encourages cleverness and ingenious frugality, there not being many resources on the steppes aside from grass.
They are herbivores, and most of their diet consists of grass and other plants. Anything else is likely to upset their digestive system. A side effect of being evolved to eat mostly grass when you're the size of the takhal is that you need to eat a lot of it.
