This took me a little while to get together as I wasn’t entirely sure what kind of character I wanted to bring to the table. Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns. Thank you very mucho.
Name: Dr. Xiomara Vargas
Age: 30
Nationality: American
Bio: Xiomara Vargas is a third generation Latino born and raised in Miami, FL. Having developed a deep love for the ocean from a young age, she has spent her whole life dedicated to marine research and conservation. She received her B.S in Marine Science Biology from the University of Tampa, a M.A.S degree in Marine BioDiversity and Conservation from the University of California San Diego, and finally her PhD in Marine Biology and Ecology from the University of Miami. For the last three years, she has been working as a professor at the University of Almarfa where she currently teaches an introductory marine biology course to undergraduate students and oversees various marine population monitoring projects for the university with the help her colleagues and eager to learn graduate students.
Appearance: Guy, 38 stands 5’ 11” tall, he weighs 190 Lbs (86 Kg) and has a thin oval face with drawn in cheeks. His dark brown hair is cut short into a high and tight with skin on the sides and back. Occasionally, he wears a very thin mustache that just barely covers his upper lip. He has an average build, yet more muscular. He has an assortment of scars littering his body from various accidents and/or gunshot wounds from time spent in combat. His voice is on the deeper side and tends to focus on what he feels is important.
PMC: Global Securities, International is based out of Paris, France with employees from 38 different countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. The company has contracts in four different African nations as well as the island nation of Al Mitras. GSI prefers veterans of the French Foreign Legion as its members, but will take anyone who meets their stiff selection process.
Education/Training: Guy graduated from École spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr in Guer, Brittany, Northwestern France with a Master’s degree in Military Strategy and International Relations. He successfully completed the 1er RPIMa selection and training including airborne training which lasts approximately nine months. When Guy was promoted to Captain, he attended the advanced Infantry School at Draguignan. During his formative years, he studied English which he is strong in. He can also speak German and Arabic and has a rudimentary understanding of the Bantu language and its dialect in Mumbaka.
Background: Guillaume HÉBERT was born and raised in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis. After completing his secondary education, he tested to enter the national military academy and completed it successfully. He graduated from Saint Cyr in 2004 and then attended airborne training and the 1st Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment (1er RPIMa) selection and training. He remained a member of the French SAS for five years. When he was promoted to Captain, he trained at Draguignan, specializing as an infantry officer. He then commanded a company of French Foreign Legionaires in the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2nd REP). He remained in the battalion as a staff officer after his command time ended. Then in 2014 he was assigned to the 3rd Marine Infantry Regiment as the regiment’s Operations Officer where he was promoted to Commandant. He left the French army in 2017 prior to being promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
As a member of French SAS from 2004 through 2009, he conducted operations in Bosnia in 2006 and then worked out of the cement factory in Kobani, Syria along the Turkish border from 2006 to 2009. While in Syria he acquired a firm grasp of the Arabic language as well as made contacts with several Syrians who would later join GSI and fight alongside him in Africa. As a company commander in the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment, he was assigned to Corsica. His unit was deployed to Afghanistan as part of ISAF, United Arab Emirates and Mali. His Arabic continued to improve in Afghanistan and UAE.
In 2004, after joining the French SAS, Guy married Claire (née Leblanc) who he dated prior to SAS selection. They have a home in Plailly, France (northeast of Paris). Claire collects Guillaume’s paychecks which she uses to support her three children, Maximilien (14), Adélaïde (12) et Roland (10). The children attend Saint Dominique Middle School and Jane du Chesne Primary School. Claire also earns a living as an author of Romance novels. Her tales often refer to the soldier away from his love and their yearning hearts drawing them home to one another again. Absence makes the heart grow fonder is an oft expression in her work.
Personality: Guy is very confident, a quality he earned from playing football in secondary school and later in his military career; gained from pushing himself to the limits and beyond. Guy is a decisive leader. He has the uncanny ability to see what needs to be done at the right time. When he decides on a course of action, he sticks to it and sees it through to fruition. Guy can be quite humorous when the opportunity presents itself. He tends to be relaxed and laid back quite often, not letting tense moments get to him. Some would call Guy an alcoholic as he enjoys drinking the Bordeaux wines a bit too frequently. Guy can be slightly nepotistic in his treatment of those soldiers who served in the French Foreign Legion (FFL). He favors these soldiers over others with an especial disdain for Americans and Brits. He finds both to be unnecessarily arrogant and boorish. Guy can be obstinate about his decisions. He becomes furious if a soldier questions his decisions and will not be swayed from his opinion. He is very stubborn on his opinions.
Likes: Bordeaux Wines especially Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio from Entre-Deux-Mers, Cheese, Paris Saint-Germain Football Club (PSG), Game of Thrones, Crime dramas like Spiral & Braquo, Military History, Politics and his wife, Claire.
Dislikes: Arrogance, British, Americans, German beers, Criminals and those who would worship criminal activity and people who repeat themselves unnecessarily.
Fears: of being evil and of being insignificant
Weaknesses: Guy loves his wine. He is the quintessential wino but refrains from drinking during operations. When the battles are won, he indulges. Can be bigoted about his nation. He is a Francophile to the point where he promotes all things of French origin above all else. The only exception here are those people from other countries who served in the FFL. He has a lot of respect for FFL veterans.
Equipment: Multi-tool, dagger, boot knife, survival knife, compass, GPS, maps, photographs of the wife and children back in France, cellphone, parachute cord, candles, lighter, a few cartons of Gitanes cigarettes, box of Cuban cigars, and several books of historical nature on subjects like Napoleon, the Roman Empire and Charlemagne.
A few members of Guy's Company: Many of these are veterans of the FFL. A few are not. Their unit of origin is listed in abbreviation as well as their nation of origin. Company Commander: Guy Hébert, FR, Commandant, Executive Officer: Ronald Meyer, GER, Hauptman, KSK Company Sergeant Major: Phillippe Saint Laurent, FR, Major Colour Sergeant: Stefan Müller, GER, Hauptfeldwebel Quartermaster Sergeant: Vito Romano, IT, FFL Company Clerk: Frederico Almeida, PORT, FFL Unit armorer: Gustaw Kowalski, POL, SGT Supply Clerk: Levi Halabi, SYR, FFL Driver/RTO: Daewan Safar, LEB, FFL Driver/RTO: Jamal Nazir, ALG, FFL Driver/RTO: Rafa Issa, MOR, FFL
The only son of a dock operator and a seamstress from Guangzhou, Kwan Tseng over time grew in love with the prospect of everything to do with the sea. From a young age, the youngster was fascinated by marine life and the pelagic, both of which have well persisted into his adult years. Coming from China into Al-Mitras to document the Aden Sea coral reefs - which by some good grace, haven't been demolished either by shifting oceanic temperatures or off-shore drilling - Kwan spends a majority of time in cooperation with the University of Almarfa's Marine Biology department, either collecting samples or providing some form of assistance in their expeditions of its shallow and deep reefs. In addition to the university, Kwan has also provided his findings in tandem with Al-Mitras' Ministry of the Environment and Water - in Kwan's own words, the coral reefs of Al-Mitras' coast would provide an excellent attraction for the booming eco-tourism industry. Much to his frustration, his efforts seem to fall upon deaf ears, with the Ministry only caring to provide a disinterested ear to his outside opinion, and little asides.
This, of course, provides excellent cover for his primary occupation: Kwan Tseng currently works as a spy in the service of the People's Republic of China's elusive Ministry of State Security, where his constant oceanic excursions give him the perfect cover to provide intelligence on the United States' activities from the Khalij Alrumaan Naval Base. Combined with his eyes and ears into the University as well as the MEW, Kwan has had little issue gathering intelligence up to this point. Results, on the other hand, have always been an issue. Al-Mitras' stubbornly conceited government has time and time again shown non-cooperative with the PRC's offers for development, instead opting to cooperate more towards the Americans. Beijing believes by now that they have offered King Yusef and his cronies more than a fair deal, and have instead recently tasked Kwan increasingly with providing intelligence on activities from the American Naval Base rather than attempt any headways into Al-Mitras' upper echelons.
Yet, come October of 2019, the whispers are abound - such that even Kwan's superiors heard of it far before he could even report it. It is widely rumored that Al-Mitras' famous oil wells have gone completely dry, and they are doing everything in their power to keep it their worst-kept secret. This turn of events will, of course, have serious ramifications for Al-Mitras: Within, its economy will simply crumble to pieces, and it would take masterful handling of the situation to keep the Kingdom afloat. Without, the extensive chaos to ensure will - no doubt - call American presence on the island-nation into question.
Either way, this is an opportunity that Kwan - and his superiors in China - make zero efforts to squander. After all, most on the island would agree that Al-Mitras is due for a more...appropriate change in leadership...
