[ T H E O V E R V I E W ]

It is November 23rd, 1994—one day before Thanksgiving, and forty-seven days since the Great Fog.

For the denizens of Hvass, a meager rural farming town in Central Illinois, the last few weeks have been a nightmare. Whilst most of the residents had generally been safe from the initial fog, it came with an evil curse that changed the very course of the town's history. Places that had been frequented by the sleepy townsfolk—bars, diners, and other business establishments—were hit the hardest by the "curse", becoming feeding grounds and nests for demonic monsters that bared a striking resemblance to some of their neighbors, like Old Hank, Miss Angelica, or even Timmy the Paper Boy.

The people of Hvass found themselves terrorized by these creatures, hiding in their homes for days afraid of the vicious monsters in the very streets they once had called home. Had it not been for the actions of Lawrence McCoy, one of the local rednecks, perhaps it might've stayed that way.

Armed with his Remington SP-10, Lawrence had decided he had enough of being stuck inside and went to take matters into his own hands. Foolhardy as he or his plan was, the sound of his 10-gauge blasting away in the streets had an rallying effect on the populace. One by one, group by group, the town rose up with whatever they had on hand, eager to take back their hometown no matter the cost.

Little did they know that the cost for freedom would be considerable.

By the end of the battle, much of the population had been slaughtered by the beasts, leaving mostly the young and old behind to make something of their sacrifice. But with winter drawing near and no word from the government or other towns, the few survivors of Hvass are alone in their plight. If those who remain are unable to work together like their neighbors had done, it'll certainly be one cold, long merciless winter.
[ T H E L O C A L E S ]

The town of Hvass dates back to the ninteenth century, wherein groups of Scandinavians immigrated to the United States following upheaval and strife in their home countries. Though the group that settled Hvass included Swedes and Norwegians, much of the actual town owes its success to the Danish that preferred to settle in and build up urban societies, in turn giving the town a strong Danish influence that persists even today.

Over the years, Hvass would see great success, booming in both population and wealth. It, like many other towns and cities in the area, heavily partook in agriculture and coal mining, as well some factory work. Local historians consider this the golden era of Hvass, with the town's population rising to around ten thousand at its peak. By the end of the World Wars, and eventually following the Illinois exodus that had begun in the 1970s, however, much of this prosperity has disappeared and decayed, leaving empty, worn buildings behind as the locals left for greener pastures.

Below, you can find a list of some important and notable locations within Hvass. Not everything in Hvass is listed here, but it should nonetheless give you an idea of the town itself:

• Grace Lutheran Church

OUTER HVASS SAFE-ZONE

  • When making a character, characters must be in town, indoors at the time of the Fog.

  • Despite being a fictional town, much of Hvass is based on your run of the mill Midwestern towns and cities—something to keep in mind when making your character.

  • If you come into this RP with a sword-swinging samurai, a gravy seal wannabe soldier, or anything of that nature, your RP career is automatically forfeit. Same goes for those who want to game the system by RPing a cop or active military. You're normal as normal goes.

  • Quality over content. Generally, you should be capable of posting a few quality paragraphs once or twice a week. That said, the GM team isn't much of a stickler with these things. Everyone has lives outside of RPG. If you're planning to ghost after joining, though, steer far and clear from this RP.

  • Face claims are to be picked from real actors. No anime, art, etc.

"Fightin' Hares, let's make this year one of the best!"

You've heard it over and over again. It was the same old speech every year, even now in your senior year of high school. But everyone knew the truth—Hvass sucked. It wasn't a place where dreams were born, it was a place where dreams went to die. Everyone wanted out, yet Hvass seemingly had no plans to let go of the hold it had on people. Hvass was a trash town, with trash people and trash culture, and you were bound to die here just like everyone else.

At least all you had was one more year with these chucklefucks. One final year dealing with all the morons and idiots until you all inevitably fucked off to do your own thing, never caring to see each other again. It was going to a long school year, but at least you had something to look forward to this time.

Hvass, Illinois is a deadbeat town with a storied history.

Dating back to the early nineteenth century, the city of Hvass was founded by Scandinavian immigrants that made the journey to the United States following upheaval and strife in their home countries. Although the original settlers included Swedes and Norwegians, much of the original town owed its success to the Danish that preferred to settle in urban societies, in turn giving the town a strong Danish influence that persists even today.

When the drums of war came for the United States, splintering the country into Union and Dixie, the Scandinavians of Hvass had been eager to join the side of Lincoln. It was common among American Scandinavians to hold anti-slavery, pro-Lincoln sentiments, and Hvass was no different. Many Hvassites volunteered for military service in droves, in particular the Swedish population that inhabited the outskirt farmlands. A plaque outside the Hvass community center, dedicated in 1957, honors those who died serving the Union cause.

Despite Hvass' roots primarily as farming town, it would see a boom in both population and wealth upon the turn of the twentieth century. It, like many other meager Illinois towns, had heavily invested in coal mining, factory work and other aspects of industrialization throughout the 1800s that carried over into the next century. Local historians consider this the golden era of Hvass, with the city's population pushing forty-odd thousand at its peak as it competed with other Central Illinois metropolitan areas such as Peoria, Springfield, Bloomington-Normal and Decatur.

By the end of the World Wars, and eventually the Illinois exodus that begun in the 1970s, however, much of the prosperity Hvass had enjoyed disappeared, leaving empty, worn buildings behind as the locals left for greener pastures—a trend that still continues to this day.

[ ❇ ] T H E L O C A L E S O F H V A S S
Though the city of Hvass has changed much since its founding, it has retained four main yet unofficial districts that separate the city into segments. These districts are the following: Downtown, the Southside Industrial Zone, the Neighborhoods, and the Hvass Business Complex. Down below, you can find specific information relating to each individual zone, along with some locations scattered within them.

SOUTHSIDE INDUSTRY ZONE:

Located in the southside of town, this place is where most of Hvass' industry is located. Originally a railray depot, it has since included other businesses, such as a paper mill, ethanol plant, and more. There are some houses and apartments here, but those who live here are among the poorest. No one lives here unless they have to, especially because of the ethanol stench and smog that blocks out any clean air.

• Henningsen Paper Co.
• Paragon Energy
• Bager Auto Body
• Gretchen's Bar

DOWNTOWN:

The center of Hvass, the downtown is a shadow of its former self. Most of the original downtown still remains, yet the buildings are largely empty and abandoned of any businesses. The few businesses that do exist are incredibly local, and the town council is invested in ensuring the remaining places don't fold and stay put in Hvass. If you're looking for the city's offices, this is where they're primarily located, along with town hall, the community center, post office and other important city buildings.

• Hvass Community Library
• The Hvass Courier
• Tre Kronor (Diner)
• Elske Confectionaries
• Dollar General

BUSINESS COMPLEX:

Directly east of Hvass' core, the Complex has seen much development, if not the only development in Hvass, over the years. Large tracts of old farmland had been sold off to developers; the city seeking to draw big corporations and other businesses to Hvass and invest into the local economy. If you're looking to shop, grab a bite to eat, or just looking for something to do, then the Complex is your best bet.

• Walmart
• Menards
• Ace Hardware
• Aldi's
• Steak 'n Shake
• Round1
• Pizza Hut
• Applebee's
• Culver's

NEIGHBORHOODS:

Most of Hvass' neighborhoods are primarily located to the north, having formed around the large, aging houses built back when Hvass was still a farming community. Those who live in these houses are "midwest rich", so if you don't come from some sort of wealth, you probably live in a neighborhood with smaller, average-sized homes that had been built mostly in early-to-mid 1900s. This is also where the city's schools are located, along with a number of parks and other greenery places.

• Hvass Community High School (HCHS)
• Lundström Junior High
• Inger Stenmark Junior High
• Christoffer Storgaard Elementary
• William Kragh Elementary
• Buhl Elementary
• Settler Park & Playground
• Hvass Lutheran Church
• Bjerre Sports Complex
• "Bow-Wow" Dog Park
[ T H E R U L E S ]

If you plan on joining this roleplay, there are a few rules set in place that need to be followed. These rules are liable to be added to or changed as necessary, so keep an eye out.

• Standard site rules apply, just like they would anywhere else on RPG
• The roleplay will require at least one every one to two weeks
• Character limit is two characters maximum per player
• Applicant-based, this is not a first-come, first-serve roleplay
Real-life FCs only; no anime, art, etc.

For those who have any questions or comments, feel free to ask anything that's on your mind.

D-Day: Lost World is an apocalyptic modern day roleplay centered around a classified military experiment gone wrong—Project JX-04132, an American attempt at weaponizing teleportation.

Funded by the Department of Defense, the project was designed for the US military which had been interested in acquiring the power to transport entire armies and fleets within a blink of an eye. Although initial prototype tests proved successful, in the process of doing so they had unknowingly ripped the fabric of time and space. Present day suddenly entangled itself with the past, and multiple timelines merged together into a singular universe branch. The world was lit ablaze with waypoints, acting as makeshift gates to ancient versions of Earth, which in turn allowed dinosaurs and other extinct, prehistoric fauna to funnel out from these portals in droves.

The creatures that emerged from these portals would run amok across the globe and devastate population centers no matter the country or continent. For all intents and purposes, D-Day had fallen upon humanity. As of that day, despite all the technological advances they had made, humanity was no longer on the top of the food chain.

Good news! You don't have to worry about the pseudo-military science at all; it's just there to give background fluff to the setting. Instead, we will be focusing on the survival aspect of it. After all, who doesn't enjoy a good dinosaur chase scene?

Your character is a current denizen of the fictional town of Orrick, Indiana, which is painfully midwestern as it gets. In the interest of supporting the Orrick's local high school, you have decided to go to a fundraiser at the nearby drive-in movie theater to watch the original Jurassic Park. Yet as the movie progresses, something feels off. The ground seems to shake. Nearby trees sway in the distance. Something big is coming, and it's hungry.

But you're just imagining that, right? Got too into the movie, that's all... right?

Do you wish you were someone else? Have you ever wished you were somewhere else?

Last night, you went to bed in your own bed for the final time. When you awoke next morning, you found you were somewhere else alongside a few strangers. You had been transported to an empty town, one completely devoid of any noise and people. No one knows how they got here, nor do they know where this place is. The roads out are blocked by dense forest, and any attempt at a phone call, text message or other form of contact is limited to in-town only.

As far as anyone can tell, you all are trapped here. Until you can find a way out, this town is your new, unofficial home for the time being. If there is even a way out, that is.

In a small office room, a tripod-mounted camera is pointed across from a chair. A brunette woman presses record, and sits down in the chair to speak to the camera.

My name is Karen Byrne. I am—or, rather, was—a ranger at Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

The Park Service had prepared us for all sorts of emergencies as part of our training. When the outbreak had reached the park, though, it had quickly became clear that we were woefully underprepared.

At the beginning, the incident had started out small. We had received reports that a visitor was reported to be acting out and aggressive to some of the park's other visitors near Brandywine. As procedure dictated, we were supposed to remove him from the premises, which wasn't something we didn't have to do often. Yet when some of us went to address the situation, several other sectors of the park began to report similar occurrences to that of the Brandywine visitor, as if madness had suddenly taken Cuyahoga by storm. Like a wildfire.

Let me ask you something: do you know how difficult it is to keep thousands of visitors scattered over thirty-three thousand acres from panicking all at once? We couldn't. Our resources were stretched thin. We had lost any hope of control over the situation the second the bloodbath started in the Valley.

I don't know how many guests or my fellow coworkers made it out. Some of them... Some of them had been devoured alive right before my own eyes. And then... they would get up, as if nothing had happened.

Now, zombies shouldn't exist outside of fiction, but I know damn well what I saw. It shouldn't be physically possible for any living thing to get back up after their insides had just been violently ripped out and feasted upon. The resulting pain and blood loss should've killed them almost instantly.

But it did happen, and people died because of it.

That... That was some months ago. As far as I am aware, I am the last of the Cuyahoga Valley rangers. I probably should've left the park long ago, but a few guests had holed up with me, and I feel it is still my responsibility to ensure their safety. But perhaps it is better to stay in Cuyahoga, if what those who have sought refuge here from outside Cuyahoga say is true. That places such as Cleveland and Akron are much, much worse than it is here. If that is the case, then staying in Cuyahoga is likely our best chance at staying alive.

Whatever we decide, I just hope that we can make it through the winter.

Standing up from the chair, the woman walks across the room and over to the camera. Upon the park ranger pressing the stop button, the video recording comes to a sudden end.

'ello, everyone.

This roleplay idea is a slight twist on an old roleplay I had done several years back on the Guild that takes place in a collaborative apocalyptic setting between @mickilennial and I. Rather than focus the roleplay on escaping a small town, however, I wanted to try something different by taking inspiration from my own character and have the cast be tested against the elements along with the undead out in the great outdoors. If something such as that happens to interest you, then please let me know. Once I get enough people, I'll move along with setting things up.

Once upon a time, Cassandra Eleanor "Cassie" Lang was an average kid living with an average family within the city of New York, New York. Her father, Scott Lang, was an electronics technician, while her mother, Peggy Rae, was a stay-at-home mom watching over Cassie. All in all, life seemed to be going well for the Langs, or at least as in so far Cassie had cared as a kid unconcerned with bills, taxes, and other such adult things.

Unbeknownst to Cassie, however, there had been trouble afoot for the Lang household. Although her father had made decent money, he would fall into money problems, and was forced to turn to burglary to ensure his wife and daughter continued to have a good life. For awhile, these criminal acts had worked, but Scott was inevitably caught and later sentenced to prison for his actions. This sentencing, in turn, tore the Lang family apart, with Cassie's mother divorcing her father while he was incarnated.

While her father was in prison, Scott had chosen to further his electrician studies, which ultimately proved useful in landing him a comfortable job at the world-renowned Stark Industries after he was released for good behavior. Although her father had been an ex-con, Cassie's mother realized that Scott, as a Stark employee, would be able to provide a better life for their daughter, and allowed him custody of Cassie from there on out.

With her father working at Stark Industries, Cassie soon found out that she would have a more eventful life than most kids did growing up. At Stark, she was able to meet many of the world's heroes or other important names, such as Mr. Stark himself (who she affectionally called "Uncle Tony") or even Iron Man. Such meetings had often left Cassie dreaming of being a superhero herself, wanting to take on the baddies of the world with the best of them.

Unfortunately, her dreams of being a superhero would be cut short when she suddenly collapsed one day with a serious heart congenital heart condition. With Cassie being in and out of the hospital, her father was unable to keep up with the bills once more, and was forced to return to thievery in hopes of hiring the legendary Dr. Sondheim, the only doctor capable of helping his daughter's condition. Breaking into the home of Henry "Hank" Pym, Scott would set forth a series of events that still resonate today by stealing the Ant-Man costume and rescuing Dr. Sondheim from the clutches of Darren Cross and his company, Cross Technological Enterprises.

Her freedom now gained, Dr. Sondheim was able to successfully operate on Cassie, in turn saving her life. Meanwhile, her father, was allowed to keep the Ant-Man costume by a Yellowjacket-dressed Pym, knowing that the world still needed an Ant-Man and that Scott would be the one to put it to good use. And Scott did, moonlighting as the new Ant-Man while he continued to work at Stark Industries to provide a living for him and his daughter.

Cassie had always secretly suspected that her father was Ant-Man, and eventually her suspicions were confirmed after some years. He was her own personal superhero dad, which she had thought was both pretty cool and badass. Life, however, thought otherwise when Scott would be slain under "mysterious circumstances", leaving Cassie in the care of her mother and new stepfather that seemed to despise superheroes, but also the very father Cassie had always looked up to—her father.

Angry at the disrespect they had shown towards her father's heroics but also his memory, Cassie had chosen to run away from home to where her father had been killed. In the midst of crying her heart out, it was then when Cassie noticed something peculiar hidden away in the uncleared rubble—her father's Ant-Man equipment. Taking the gear in her hands, she suddenly had an idea; a very stupid one at that.

She'd follow in her father's footsteps. She'd become a hero like her father, and bring justice to his killer.

Consider this a newbie's first attempt at writing a canon character.

This version of Cassie that I'm writing will be more centered around her comic counterpart, although with some changes and tweaks of my own. Most of her background is the same as it is in the comics, but this version will be skipping things like her dad becoming an Avenger and leaving other important events like Scott's death "unknown" to better fit the combined timeline (unless, of course, we do have someone wanting to play Ant-Man).

Obviously, I want to write Cassie coming into her own as a superhero with how I've set her story up, which is similar to her own story in the comics. If there an Iron Man player or some other mentor type character from her past that I can bounce off for ideas, then that'd be great. Encouraging Cassie, telling her she is in over her head, etc. The ideas out there are endless, obviously.
