The year is 476 AD, the Eagle of the West, that glorious empire that was Rome has fallen. The last emperor of the West was unseated by a Germanic usurper. But while the West has turned into a carcass ripped apart by hundreds of tiny, vicious mouths the East flourishes. Nova Roma, Byzantium, Constantinople. This glorious city oversees what remains of the Empire that once brought light to the world. Emperor Zeno looks West concerned while facing pressure from the Ostrogoths. But aside from the Empire in the East there are remnants of the Western court suriving in Gaul and Dalmatia. But unknown to mortal men there are forces and conspiracies moving in the shadows older than Rome and some even older than mankind. These powers have a vested interest in the destiny or death of Rome. The fate of the Fallen Eagle will decide the future of human history!
So this is something i have been craving for a while now. This a brainchild that has come about from my continued playing of the excelent CK3 mod "Fallen Eagle", where the end stages of the Western Empire and the beginning of the Middle Ages are explored. Aside from being a history nerd i really like World of Darkness and i really like the concept of a dark supernatural world instead of some Young Adult Wizarding World. When the real cool Historica Arcanum books released for DnD 5e. That was the point where i knew i wanted to do some kind of Rp set in late Roman times or early medieval times with a hidden supernatural world and dark conspiracy going on.
Details are in the works but there will be a choice between being a supernatural being and a normal mortal. Different origins from around the Mediterranian and if interest demands it there are alternate dates where it could be set.
Depends on how much interest this gets.
Alternate dates: 361 AD, 395 AD, 527 AD, 610 AD
Update: There will be the choice between playing a normal human living through the era with important historical figures available but the more well known the more confined to a set chain of events. So I don't encourage playing figures like Odoacer, Theoderic or Syagrius if sticking to their real-life story is not something you want. While these historic story beats should be present there is nothing saying that the figure was not secretly involved in things beyond what has been reported in the chronicles. Maybe their historical ends were not even their true demises. There is also a choice to explore the shadows of the world and be someone involved in the supernatural, be they humans defending their race against dark predators and vile monsters, a mystic intent to achieve enlightenment or a vampire using human rulers as puppets and cattle. A lot of inspiration will be taken from World of Darkness and DnD 5e for the flavor of the supernatural and how the cosmos works. Religion will be left vague and up to the individual to choose where divine power truly comes from. The pagan gods are dying but not yet dead and their influence rages against the overwhelming might of the Christian God.
