The year is 3014, nearly all hate and disorder has been demolished from the everyday lives of mankind, sickness is gone, racism, sexism, homophobia and all things unsavory humankind had to offer has all but been eradicated from the earth.
It truly is the shining age for man.
A great war came a few hundred years ago killing most of the human race and from the ashes rose a new breed, a better one of those who didn't fight because they knew what fighting meant, death.
So, they taught their children not to fight, to be perfect and not to kill, vegetarians, religious to the core, all the same fashion sense and music interest, all had the same personalty and goals, sure, no more wars were fought or won, but they became a world of robots.
But, those who did not listen, they found they could unlock parts of their brains the others couldn't. They had free will and with the power of free will and more knowledge than any robot would ever obtain they gained powers.
Not power like social status, quiet the opposite they were pariahs; powers as in elemental control, walking through solid objects, and even mind control.
People began to fear them, free will is a scary thing. And powers on top, another war was going to rage.
So, they captured all who even showed the slightly idea of free will and locked them up, in a lab called HKFW.lab (how (to) kill free will) and began studying them, testing on them, trying to figure out the true way to kill free will for once and for all.
