Name: Joli S.
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Country of Origin: Italy
Role: Student/Guardian of the Mist
Flame: Mist
Weapon/Fighting Style: Constantly occupied by tiny, shiny objects, Joli currently uses a collection of smooth stones given to him by his father and a handmade slingshot. Crafted from metal, a family trait, considering his father owns several small but successful metal-work shops in Vendrello, the sling has particularly sharp edges; sharp enough to cut when apt force is applied. The handle is square, as opposed to the generally accepted round version, made specifically for heavy, direct impacts, in case slicing or stabbing proves impractical or ineffective. In most cases, Joli prefers close combat, swiftly attacking and retracting, often in succession until his enemies are defeated. This has effectively earned him the title, "The Hit and Run." Usually, because they are considerably precious to him, he won't use his stones, but on occasion, he uses them as a means to take on several opponents at once. In general, a slingshot isn't considered a valuable weapon, but combined with Joli's natural eye-hand coordination and exceptional eye sight, it proves rather formidable.
Appearance: Click Here A somewhat conservative child, Joli often wears clothes that draw little attention, like sleeveless sweaters and shorts, or fitted t-shirts and slacks. He's around 5'6, and although his mother is a particularly sizable woman, his father is of average height and build, which begs the question whose size will he inherit? Still, as a young man, he is generally small, and not necessarily athletic, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in balance and speed. His hair is a light shade of black, bordering a murky grey, and his eyes are an equivalently odd shade of blue; darker and brighter than typically seen.
Click Here Time proves valuable in Joli's case as, ten years into the future, he has matured nicely. He is about 5'10 and has developed a stern, chiseled face, which extends also to his body. His body, although still slender, has grown considerably, and the once meek impression one might get from looking at him is replaced by a strong aura. He is clearly more confident, and certainly more talkative. In addition, he has developed a certain charm and suave, evident by the sophisticated, more attention-grabbing clothes that adorn him.
Personality: Being raised in a two parent home, lovingly and with good taste, did well by him, although it's also likely the cause of his separatist demeanor. Joli doesn't like people. There is something about the lack of morals and ingenuity in their community that infuriates him. Of course, there are exceptions as there are to all generalizations but, he feels the small number of good people do nothing to excuse the large number of bad ones. As a result, he stays distant from his classmates and really only speaks when spoken to. Despite this, he's developed a reputation for intelligence and wisdom, and for having a heart filled with kindness. Thus, try as he might, people are simply drawn to him. Of course, when such a small person carries such big acclaim, there are those who harbor unrelenting resentment...
History: Born and raised in Vendrello, Joli has always been an old soul. His yearning for peace has been a source of pride for his parents since he was very young. In his youth, he proved to be bright and light-hearted, although shockingly mysterious. When they would take him out, he would observe quietly, contrary to his usually inquisitive and personal at-home nature, which came as a great surprise to his parents. It was as though he was gathering data, and had no desire to affect his environment. This would persist as he grew, and eventually even become 'worse'. The more Joli saw of the world and the people in it, the quieter and angrier he became.
At some point it became clear to his mother, who was a seasoned fighter in the underground, that others would come to hate his tenacious distrust. As a result, to the dismay of his father, who had always wanted him to grow up peacefully, she began teaching him how to fight. This would become pivotal more quickly than they could have imagined, as other children started to observe Joli closely. He was smart, and although always alone, never seemed lonely. Furthermore, he would act without ever speaking, simply doing what was asked, or in some cases, doing what was necessary for the safety or pleasure of another. Once understanding of his nature, many children began to idolize him; but a select few grew to think of him with dangerous disdain.
On the day before his middle school graduation, less than two years before now, Joli had stayed behind to clean his homeroom, as was his duty every other Thursday. However, on this particular day he had also cleaned the boards and floors of a few of the other homerooms, because he knew that he would never get the chance to again after the ceremony the next day. The extra hour he spent was of little consequence to him, but that was only because he didn't know he was being watched. On this day, some of those that had grown to dislike him, planned to jump him after school, and at first, it was only a few. But because he had taken the extra time, they had managed to gather quite the mob of his 'enemies' before he had left. Shortly after he did leave, halfway between school and his home, he found himself face-to-face with an entire squad of seasoned delinquents.
The fight was rough. Still, thanks to the few lessons he had received from his mother, he was able to fend them off and escape. When he arrived home, his mother immediately noticed the blood spilling from several places, and bruises on many others, and rushed to help him. Once she reached him, she pulled him into her arms momentarily before pushing him gently out in front of her, and was suddenly stricken with a mixture of fear and amazement at the eerily calm expression on his face. When his father returned from work, Joli's mother informed him of their son's condition, and he instantly realized that he was wrong to assume peace would ever find their family. After all, his parents had mysteries of their own. It was that very night that he decided to give his son the stones he'd been saving for his 18th birthday, and began teaching him the ways of metal craft...
