#2 Some time later, the cat indeed abandoned its futile attempts to get my attention. Skimming over the clock's display with my eyes for the second time, i let out a hearty yawn - a mere twol minutes had passed, the page i was reading still unfinished, but the cat's sheningans made me lose all concentration left, so i decided to take a breather and get myself a drink. Only when i stood up, the floor creaking underneath my weight, i realized why the quiet scratching distracted me so much. Standing still, listened - nothing. Heading towards the doorway i noticed that my own footsteps suddenly sounded hostile and alien amidst such deafning silence... Yes, that is when i should've began fearing, as there was no night other than that very one when not even the distant sound of a lonesome car speeding down the highway could be heard, but i simply dismised that as odd. Odd, but nothing too serious at all. Eager to cuddle up with my furry friend and shoo the sleepyness away with a cup of hot tea, i walked up to the door, wrapping my hand around it's cold metal handle, and pulled.

I felt a stinging chill as a placed my hand on the handle, my body suddenly filled with dread as if I really shouldn't open that door. But that was just being silly and paranoid, right? I was just a tad worked up so needed to calm down and think rationally about it. Of course the handle was cold at night, because my parents were far too cheap to pay for proper heating at this time.
"That's what the covers are for!" My dad would always remark, a playful tone but with a seriousness behind his words that he failed to budge on despite my protests.
I shrugged this feeling off and continued opening the door, which unleashed a shrill creak as it revealed the emptiness of the dark hallway that extended outwards into the kitchen, illuminated by a night light over the sink. That was my destination. The hallway leading off to my right was the parents room, but it was far enough away that I didn't worry about waking them with this late night voyage. The four doors lined up on either side of the hallway leading up to the kitchen opened to miscellaneous rooms; a closet, bathroom, the garage, and a spare room converted to storage that the cat was supposed to be locked in. Strange, the cat was nowhere to be seen as I opened the door, but some of the hallway was awfully dark so I couldn't tell for sure where she might be hiding.
