I was actually thinking that all manner of mostly-benevolent supernaturals existed. Pixies, fairy's, goblins, nymphs, all that crap you read about in books when you were a kid. If that makes it seem too kiddie for you, we can change it--but, if you think about it, the real versions of these creatures are pretty adult--most were either horny, murderous, or both. Alden's family would probably be pretty prominent, so on the large side. They would not be the only Faerie in the area.
Sure, we'll just have Alden venture out beyond his borders and run into your girl, from there he can convince her to visit him in the woods ha.
My vision is that Faeries are mostly like they're depicted, very small, but they can shift to human-sized (something Alden does frequently, obviously.) Pretty benevolent, or indifferent. Not inherently evil, for the most part. They would probably have their own colonies or 'courts', separated either by seasons or elements. Like, the winter court, the autumn court, etc.
Again feel free to modify or suggest anything you don't like.
