Scrolling through the page on his laptop, Kevin sat legged in the sofa with his feet brought up to the cushion. With a soft sigh, he rubbed his forehead and leaned back, there had to be something he could do. This was important. “What’s wrong?” Ada, Kevin’s closest friend and knower of secret came into the living room and placed a cup of hot chocolate on the table.

“I can’t figure this out.” He sighed, reaching for the cup but ultimately confirmed that his arm couldn’t stretch the whole way. Another problem had risen.

“Can’t figure what out?” Ada raised an eyebrow, handing him the cup before she dropped down on the couch herself and looked at the screen. “Armour?”

“Yes, I am looking for a better design for my outfit.” He sipped from the hot liquid and took a deep breath.

“What’s wrong with your coat?” She had known Kevin’s secret for nearly two years and got to know him soon after he entered the country five years prior. Egypt had given him everything he needed, and if he could have his way, Egypt wouldn’t come looking for him. That was however wishful thinking. She would never give up, she wanted her son back.

“Nothing, but I need to be protected. People seem to enjoy using guns.” Kevin wasn’t a fool. Super human prowess was handy but it wouldn’t protect him against bullets, even if his reflexes were enough to dodge one shot. His enemies rarely squeezed the trigger only once. “If I could find a smith to make me a breastplate, leg armour and plate for my arms, we’re set.”

“You do know it’s 2014, right? We have something called a riot gear today.” Ada added, crossing her arms.

Closing the laptop, Kevin jumped up to his feet and slipped the laptop in his backpack. “I can carry heavy plate as if it was cloth. If I can get my hands on that, my job will be much easier. Besides, I’m called Paladin for a reason, you know.” He winked, allowing a slight grin to stretch across his lips. “But for now, I have a meeting.”

“Going to play hero with the rest?” Ada crossed her legs and removed some bangs from her eyes.

“The less you know, the better. I don’t want anyone to use you to get to me.” It was a fear constantly present but the whole ‘lie to your loved ones to protect them’ bullshit wasn’t anything Kevin bought. She would figure it out eventually, and if the bad guys knew they were friends, they’d use her anyway. There was no reason of keeping her in the dark.

The other heroes identities wasn’t anything she wanted to know and Kevin wasn’t about to tell her. That was of course if he got to know them in the first place. Heroes are often two different people, just like Kevin. The careless, kind hearted and fun loving little guy wasn’t present once Paladin took over. A battle hardened knight fit better into the field of battle. “See you, Ada. Be safe.” He smiled at the young woman, offering a gentle wave and grabbed a large guitar case before he’d head down the stairwell and out the front door.

This offer was something he had jumped at. As a team the heroes could do so much more, and with a network things would go smoother. He hadn’t gone at it alone through every mission, but solo flight was the usual deal. Kevin, or rather Paladin, worked well in a team and valued his allies highly. He was sure that this was going to go well, at the very least he hoped that it would. Throwing the case over his shoulder, Kevin straddled his motorcycle and drove off. There had been only vague information about the team he’d be part of, making it rather exciting to figure out how things were going to go down. It took a while, longer than he had expected, but eventually he'd reach the base of operation. After parking the black bike he moved closer to the entrance, a little nervous. It felt like the first day of school.

"Mmmmmm… strawberry shortcake…" the blue haired woman strewn across the black couch said. She shifted to become more comfortable, but the minor change I weight sent her sliding off the couch and onto the hardwood floor. "Wha- ow!"

The blue haired DJ crashed to the floor, rubbing the back of her head and glaring at the couch. "Geez, I can stop a huge crime wave, but apparently I can't catch myself falling off my own couch. Some superhero…" she muttered to herself, standing up and popping her back. She ran her hand through her messy hair checking for any problem areas. When she was done with her minimal hair check -which left a few sprigs of hair standing straight up- she walked towards the kitchen, where she pulled out a pop tart and stuffed it in her mouth while she prepared her coffee. Super or not, she still needed coffee to maintain her ridiculous lifestyle. DJ and crime fighter all in one, which meant a few missed nights, or having to take care of her alter ego's enemies/whatever assignment had been set up for the day.

However, any way she looked at it she still needed coffee to replace sleep. When the machine began to make the coffee and she didn't have to worry about it, she took a chunk out the pop tart and moved over to where her phone was charging. Quickly flicking through the lock screen, Rina noticed that she had a text. Vanessa. Tina made a face of distain. Vanessa was her PR person within the company, and lately she'd been on a superhero team kick, which wasn't something that made Rina too happy. Fighting in a team would probably lead to them finding out her secret identity, and she liked her own privacy over making friends who could potentially drop in and bring suspicion and enemies with them.

Rina opened the text from Vanessa. Dont 4get to go 2 the meeting 2day. Rina needed a moment to get over how informal Vanessa tried to be when dealing with her. Then she needed another moment to try and remember what meeting Vanessa was talking about. Oh yeah, the dumb team thing she she'd been signed up for.

I would prefer to know who my teammates are, but I sincerely hope that you aren't going to go too crazy. If this thing turns out to be flop, I don't want to look like one of those divas on the front of a magazine. Rina replied.

I don't no, maybe thar be some paparazzi. Who's 2 say. ;P Rina out the phone down after that reply. Reading Vanessa's texts hurt her head, with their poor grammar and dumb way of annotating just about everything.

Rina drank her coffee quickly, gulping it down just plain and black. It tasted nasty, but she needed to get a move on. Always prepared for action, Rina usually wore her catsuit under her clothes just in case she needed to get moving quickly. It didn't take long to change when she had her catsuit on, but it was a pain when she forgot about it, but thankfully Rina was still wearing it today. She grabbed her jacket and the rest of her hero attire, and quickly stuffed it all into a grocery bag. Once she was set to go, she slung it over her shoulder and headed out, locking the door behind her.

She started walking towards the base location she'd been given, scanning for other supers in full attire. When she was about ten blocks away from her apartment, Rina swerved into an alleyway to change. She threw the bag she had that contained her clothes into the nearby garbage can. She adjusted the goggles, which covered most of her face and gave the world a purple sheen.

"Okay, Rave," she said, trying to be her own pep squad, "time to strut your awesomeness for these guys to know your coolness!" she ended it with a happy laugh and ran up the side of the building next to her. She used her wall climbing skills, preferring to not risk looking like a fool if they had to fight and out of stored energy. Once she was moving above the buildings, she was moving much quicker, and reached the location just in time. She was across the street from where they were supposed to show up, and now all she had to do was wait.

She didn't have to wait long, some guy in white showed up on a motorcycle. Maybe I should invest in a cool motorcycle. I'd look pretty sweet… but I doubt the company would let me buy one… she thought as she climbed down from the building, quietly moving behind the guy in white.

He looked nervous. She should probably figure out the best way to introduce herself without hurting anyone. When she figured that was dumb, she quickly turned on her power and shouted, "Hey!"
