What if the main cast of an anime and manga that we all know (and maybe love) was a bit different. what if the main cast didn’t consist of an idiot, an emo and a crybaby? What if Konoha was not the center stage? Would the story evolve differently? Would it be pretty much the same?
Here, we will find out.
So this will be a thread where we do all the OOC-stuff for our game. First we have some rudimentary questions to get out of the way before we get to creating characters. Questions like which village we should belong to? How do we decide what roles to play? Should we limit ourselves to only three players or should we allow a fourth to play a jounin commander? This and lots more needs to be decided before we can move on.
To start us of we have the questions above as well as the hider fields below, read the contents carefully before posting.
Original text:
All Naruto-games I've ever played in (except one where we were supposed to be super powerful) has used the jutsu-list. A list of known techniques that your character can use, the amount of techniques is usually based on the character’s rank (genin, chuunin, jounin and so on...). Lately I've started to wonder if it doesn't do more harm than good. It does give the GM and other players a sense of balance, but at the same time it holds back the dynamic nature of the narutoverse. In this game we just set a few jutsus as signature moves (for example: Naruto: Rasengan and kage bunshin. Rock Lee: Konoha senpuu and gateopening), then specify a field of expertise (Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Genjutsu) and let everyone improvise from there, using a few guidelines.
The main thought is to bring the game closer to the series by changing the way we see our characters’ skills.
This will be used with a “Used jutsu list” that is updated every time a character use a new jutsu. This will make sure that we don’t get that one guy who comes up with a new jutsu every post, and will let you know who’s falling behind.
Every game that has ever used a jutsu list have also restricted the use of jutsus to the techniques specified in the list. This makes most games feel quite different from the series where characters sometimes make up new techniques on the spot (just look at how many types of rasengan there are!). It also means that a genjutsu and ninjutsu-user has less tools to work with than a taijutsu-user, who can both freeform and use practiced techniques. My plan for this game is that nin- and genjutsu isn’t as rigid as you’d think, and is actually as freeformable as taijutsu. However, the practiced jutsus has the same advantage that practiced taijutsu moves has. More power, and easier to do (in other words, those are the ones you want to use if your life depends on it). This would also make it a lot more valid to play a genjutsu-user, I’d think, because there is a distinct lack of canon-genjutsu that isn’t extremely specific.
The goal here isn’t so much about making new techniques up as you go, but to give a ninjutsu or genjutsu specialist as many tools as the taijutsu specialist.
In practice this would mean that in a fight a ninjutsu specialist doesn’t just have his practiced jutsus to work with, he can improvise. A fire ninjutsu user could improvise a ball of flames because the situation calls for it. However it would be easier to dodge/block and would do less damage if it hit because it is not a practiced move that has been perfected over hours and hours of training. The same thing would apply to taijutsu. Rock Lee’s Konoha Senpuu is devastating because he has practiced that one kick thousands of times, Lee “freeform-kicking” someone would not have the same impact.
One of the great things about Naruto is the spectacular fights, even the shit done at lower levels was bad ass (remember when Lee fought Gaara at the chuunin exam?). In the rps people are a bit too scared of losing and having their characters do something that isn’t always tactically correct, and the fights are never ever close as stunning as in the series. Rarely do I stumble upon a game where powerplay is a feature, but in Naruto-games I think it should be.
If we just make sure every character has a unique way of fighting, and make up some ground rules for the fights as they go along we’d give the fighters more to work with while they write. Thus, you can make better, more spectacular posts.
This idea is simply a way to get more content and more action into every post. Instead of having to stop at "and then Sasuke throws his sword straight at Naruto" you can go ahead with "the blade slices through him like butter, victory is assured until he explodes in a cloud of white. A kage bunshin, the real one must be hiding somewhere..."
Normally (as in, this is my experience from gaming here) you have to either make a collaboration or have a long conversation with your player opponent or GM. If the rules of powerplay are a bit looser, you'll be free to make up certain things on the spot to create a better post.
It means that you have to be more careful with how you write your CS and require a certain amount of trust between the players (and GM). Specifically when you have the players battle an NPC, you have to be able to trust the players not to kill off one of the six paths of Pein with a rasengan and not giving it a chance to fight back… Some sort of instruction will therefore follow every encounter, like “this is a medium-hard guy that use genjutsu (butterfly theme) and lighthing ninjutsu”. This will tell the players how hard the fight should be to win (if it’s even possible) and what tools the enemy will use.
Info about the game:
Village: the hidden mist (Kirigakure)
Players:
Sensei -
Present Day Ruka wears a Chinese designed Kimono which coincides with her new personality.
Name: Ruka Chitanda
Epithet: "Onihime" a.k.a Demon Princess, Kirigakure no Onihime aka Mist Village's Demon Princess. Now known as "Tenshihime"
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Rank: Jounin
Affiliation(s)+(Village): Kirigakure
Jutsus:
Ruka possess two elements, wind and water as well as basic academy jutsus.
Ninja Art Ruka's style: Tessen no kusari(Fanned Chains)
-A 20 inch fan that is rigged with six chains which acts as tendrils, this fan is where Ruka uses her jutsus. The fan is capable of enlarging itself to 20 more inches which acts as a shield and the chains cloaking it for better defense. Ruka's weapons are powered by her chakra and made by her. She sends infused wind chakra to her chains and fan to fan a wind attack. The chains are limited to six meters, Ruka can decide to disrupt ones chakra flow with it. Not a jutsu but a style.
S Rank Technique: Wind Style: Sen kyōfū
-Also known as the black wind(due to its concentrated nature), this jutsu is known for its offense and defense maneuver. A black wind covers the user's hand and strike like an assassin hence this jutsu contrasts with Hatake Kakashi's Chidori/Raikiri, both shares similarities, Ruka may do the same concentration power of the Raikiri however the difference is it makes lesser noise and the only noise you'll hear is the sound of the passing winds. This jutsu is also dubbed as Senk Kyoufu a.k.a "One thousand gale" and "A very strong wind". This jutsu was made by Ruka as to be known her signature jutsu. Likewise Sen Kyoufu can be infused in Ruka's weapons, mainly her fan the Fanned Chains. Ruka can also use this jutsu similar to how Kakashi run with the raikiri but she prefers using it with her fan for bigger impact.
The weakness of this jutsu is also tunnel vision which however can be avoided with the sharingan but in Ruka's case, in order to compensate for that weakness she uses sen kyoufu in a better fashion, which is infusing it with her fan to cover an area of effect, better spread/range effect. This is also avoidable by any means necessary such as jumping out of the way, side ways and summonings and defensive barriers like earth style. A totally concentrated sen kyoufu at full power can only be used four times in one day, variations however takes lesser chakra toll.
Cat Cleaving Hook Palm
- A cat like taijutsu that focuses on flexible movements, this is Ruka's main taijutsu style. It is not a jutsu but a style.
The jutsu she developed in this taijutsu is:
B Rank Technique: Cleaving Cat Palm
-This jutsu focuses on the user's palms and bodily coordination, a short-mid range attack, not to be 10 meters or more, the user spins in a tornado fashion but not like an Inuzuka's tornado. The main idea is to aim at ones vital points and potentially slow down ones chakra flow. This jutsu can easily be avoided by body flicker and by all means fast movements and the user can be render useless with genjutsu and ninjutsu. Ruka's other known move.
Water Stytle: Water Wall.
- A canon jutsu from the original series.
Water Shadow Clone.
-Yet another canon technique.
Water Ball Jutsu.
-Similar to the Great Fireball Jutsu is done, it cancels each other out.
Mystical Palm
-An A Rank medical ninjutsu.
C Rank: Summoning.
-Ruka can summon cats, she is able to summon cats for sensor activities.
Overall: As the creator of Ruka, I decided to list down her current techniques instead of listing down her old techniques as the Demon Princess. Ruka's moves prior to her current self is more genjutsu and kenjutsu based while now as seen above is taijutsu and tessenjutsu. Her fighting style today differs from her Onihime fighting style.
Fighting style: Taijutsu, Genjutsu and Kenjutsu(Tessenjutsu).
Field of Specialty: Taijutsu
Weapons:
Tessen, it is a war fan. Ruka is a master of using dual wielding fans which is used to deflect arrows and fan elements wind and water.
Katana, she was once a swordsman but now it is sheathed and she doesn't use it anymore.
Tessen no kusari(Fanned Chains)
-A 20 inch fan that is rigged with six chains which acts as tendrils, this fan is where Ruka uses her jutsus.
Personality:
In her younger years, Ruka was known as "The Demon Princess" (Onihime), and before her family's-death, she used to be a very feared person, infamous amongst the village and other villages alike. She is dressed in an inappropriate modified kimono, and was rather very temperamental and bad-mouthed everyone, especially her colleague, whom she had quite a rivalry with from when they were kids. However, due to a past incident involving the apparent death of her family and friends, Ruka somehow lost her will to fight and her personality changed drastically.
Now, Ruka is a loving and caring person who treats her friends, and even strangers, with kindness. She plays a motherly role within the village, and is often seen serving a restaurant as a waitress. She has rarely been shown to be in a bad mood, and can tolerate whatever eccentricities. However, there have been a couple events that have disturbed Ruka, including her discovery of traitors, coups and dangerous events as well as the death of her parents back in the previous war.
In keeping with her motherly role, Ruka is very determined to protect her comrades. She has gone so far as to change her appearance as a decoy by henge no jutsu for her village's Kage in certain missions, she also does this for her comrades to protect them. Ruka is talented at playing traditional musical instruments like the koto and a traditional guitar, she also sings and loves cooking. Ruka dislikes violence and people arguing, she is also afraid of spiders.
History:
Chitanda Ruka was known and feared as the "Onihime" or Demon Princess back in her younger years, she gained that title due to her ruthlessness and merciless fighting style in combat which is none other than her flexible taijutsu coordinated with genjutsu and kenjutsu. At the age of 7 she entered the academy and excelled at taijutsu, she used to be an over hyper and over boasting person, she graduated at the age of 11, promoted to Genin and a year later to Chuunin. During her Chuunin years, she developed her unique fighting style by learning the art of the fan and the sword, Ruka became passionate and obsessed with her development eventually she became aloof and this was the start of her path as the Demon Princess.
The path Ruka chosen indeed became a blessing to her family but such path only made her more or less, narcissistic and overconfident, she trained almost everyday and her training regiment is by breaking the rules, in other words testing her abilities on real battle. Ruka's reckless behavior led her to too many restrictions due to the Mizukage's worry, she was always doing things her own way and despite the good outcome she may give after missions and events, it doesn't change the fact that she puts everyone in danger. Finally attaining the Jounin rank at the age of 16/17 years old, Ruka's violence and ruthlessness became well known and to that she earned the title Onihime based on her deadly combat style of the fan, taijutsu and her relentless chasing down of opponents, another point of her ruthlessness. The reign of her reputation as the Onihime lasted for eight years and this is remarkable as it contrasts to the Bloody Mist events although she is not part of it, she's just as cruel as she used to be.
Prior to Ruka's change, it was stated that she joined the ANBU but only for a short period of time due to her disobedience. The death of her loved ones traumatized her so bad and this lead her to change.
Others:
Ruka's hobbies are cooking, singing and playing musical instruments.
According to her, cooking is dedication and love of the heart and soul.
She is very well known for always being second place in various quantity and quality.
Ruka dislikes spiders, horror movies, violence and people who don't give their best. Heart and Soul is dedication, you must give your all.
Beware, you have been warned. Do not piss her off, she'll go Onihime mode at you and be an entirely different person which is strict, do not take advantage of her kindness.
The author can't think of any named jutsus that are made by Ruka, it is blank for now.

Bloodline weilder -
Name: Kaguya Keisuke.
Epithet: None.
Gender: Male.
Age: 12.
Rank: Genin.
Affiliation(Village): Kirigakure no sato (village hidden in the mist)
Jutsus:
Signature moves:
Shunshin no jutsu (Rank C) - Super-fast movement, used to transport a ninja into, out of or around a battlefield or general environment.
Dance of the willows (Rank C) - First form of the bamboo dance. Keisuke will take a kunai in each hand and use his fluid motions to stab his opponent.
Kawarimi no jutsu (Rank E) - Basic technique used to get out of trouble.
Example jutsus for use in-game:
Fighting style: The bamboo dances.
A taijutsu-style which relies on fluid, circular movements and precise strikes. Originally used by those of the Kaguya clan that was born with the clan’s kekkei genkai. Keisuke has shown no sign of possessing this trait, but the style has been altered to work with kunais instead of bonedaggers. Similar to kung fu, this style is all about being soft and fluent like the wind or water. If someone strikes you, you shouldn’t fight it, but go along with the force and use it to your own advantage. There is also a lot of dodging in this style.
Field of Specialty: Taijutsu.
Weapons: Standard issue kunai and shuriken in a belt pouch.
Personality: Keisuke is a serious boy, and a loner. He has lived alone for a few years and gotten used to looking after himself. He tends to keep people at arm’s length. He generally never initiate a conversation with people he doesn’t know and trust, and is perfectly fine with spending hours on end in total silence. The only people why sees any kind of emotion from him are the people he either wants to “have a bond with” or his closest friends, of which there are none at this time.
History: Keisuke was born in the proud Kaguya clan. Most people don’t like to think about them. When he was still a baby something horrible happened. A big fight broke out between the clan and the village, it became violent and before anyone with enough sense could stop it the village had declared war on the Kaguyas. Of course, being violent as well as stubborn, the Kaguyas accepted, and were slaughtered like pigs. Only two small children survived. Kimimaro, the son of the clan’s chieftain and his young cousin Keisuke.
Kimimaro left his cousin with some friends before he left the village.
This is what Keisuke has been told.
Keisuke was entered into the academy and did very well, he graduated with top grades, ready to take on the life of a ninja.
Others:
While Keisuke still isn’t able to use the famous Kaguya bloodline limit he still gets some advantages and disadvantages from simply being a Kaguya.
+ Much higher than average pain tolerance.
+/- Shifted pressure points.
- Medical ninjutsu has little or no effect on him.
Keisuke loves both reading and music, but was not born with the soul of an artist and can therefore not create that which he loves.

Name: Nori Muira
Epithet: Seaweed Eater, Sea Monster, Kappa (by his classmates)
Gender: Male
Age: 12
Affiliations: Kirigakure
Jutsus:
Chakra Dispersion Techniques
Catnap Stupor
Swallowing a bitter kampo pill allows Nori to release a sweet smelling gas in the immediate area. He can spread it further by using chakra emissions. The scent causes the muscles to relax and breathing to slow down. These symptoms are often interpreted as sleepiness and may lull unwitting opponents to sleep. Prolonged exposure to the gas may result in the coma. The problem with this technique is that the kampo pill is hard for a genin to create. When not formulated correctly a putrid gas is released that induces nausea in those exposed to it. The stench also remains in the mouth making it easy to identify the culprit. The horrid smell is similar to that of decaying seaweed hence the nickname Seaweed Eater.
Cat Skip
The ability charges the users feet (shoes) and hands with chakra by dispersing a small amount that forms a freely moving layer. Doing so allows them to scale walls and walk on water at astonishing speeds. Unlike the usual technique employed by his classmates his ability enables him to conserve more chakra as lesser chakra is lost overall. This was the reason behind Nori’s feline agility when it comes to scaling up walls and trees. He often shows off his prowess by using this ability to run swiftly on or surf on the tumultuous waves along the coast. This earned him his other nickname Kappa.
Fighting Style: A hybridized form of Ninjutsu and Genjutsu that works in synchrony with taijutsu.
Field of Specialty: Ninjutsu
Weapons:
+ Light leather belt with a number of small pouches containing a variety of dried herbs and pills.
+ A wooden cudgel that he often uses to hit his classmates.
+ A pair of weighted ball bearings for balancing practice.
+ A coil of trip wire.
+ A medium sized knife.
Personality
Nori is the type of kid who loves reminding people to smile and live life to the fullest. Few things truly upsets him because he has a deep spiritual belief that life is intertwined with nature and life and death are things one must go through before being reincarnated. Not that he would tell that to his friends.
Most of his teachers believe Nori is far too carefree for his own good because he is often seen either skipping rocks with the younger children in the village or chatting with the elderly rather than trying to memorize the important things taught in class. Perhaps the only thing that ever engages him is the time he spends with his mother. It is not unusual to see both mother and son working together in the garden or going off into the forest to gather herbs.
History
Little is known about the Muira family. All anyone ever remembers is that the couple came to the village about 14 years ago and set up what would become the most popular okonomiyaki shop in Kirigakure. They were hardly outstanding. Just an average couple who owns a small family restaurant. Though neither parent claimed to be a ninja Nori knew quite a lot of basic techniques when he first enrolled into the Academy. As he progressed he began using techniques not taught in class especially his fighting stances using the cudgel. This often leaves his teachers perplexed.
Others
Nori loves cooking and nothing makes him happier than to bring extra food for his less fortunate classmates and seeing them enjoy it.
His father is extremely outgoing and the man is often seen drinking with his employees after the restaurant closes. Nori and his mother do not always join Mr. Muira.
Mrs. Muira is very fit despite being a housewife. She has no trouble lifting heavy sacks of flour to and from the store room. This is remarkable as the sacks are so heavy that two male employees have to work together to lift even one.
Nori loves fishing and he seems to know to get really fat ones.
He speaks what seems to be a nonsense language with his mom and he can imitate animal sounds.
While most of his clothes seem normal he has some pretty interesting ones like his deerskin poncho, his rabbit skin gloves and his fur lined boots. He prefers wearing these in winter. No one knows where his parents bought them from and certainly only Nori seems to be wearing them.

Jinchuuriki -
Name: Kaoru Takata
Epithet: None.
Gender: Male
Age: 11
Rank: Genin
Affiliation: The Village Hidden in the Mist
Appearance: He has messy, sandy blond hair and always looks like he's in need of a haircut. His eyes are a light sky blue, and always seem to reflect back whatever emotion he's feeling if you know what to look for. Kaoru is very short, around 5'2" - but that doesn't stop him from training. He's muscular for a kid his age, and is very skilled in taijutsu as a result. He normally wears black loose-fitting shorts and a white t-shirt. In the cold, he switches to leggings and a long-sleeved shirt. He prefers not to wear shoes in the summer, but during the winter he wears the standard issue sandals.
Kaoru is by no means the most powerful jinchuuriki, but he has enough chakra to wipe out a good-sized village. That being said, all that chakra has to go somewhere, and he channels it into his training. If he doesn't use up some of his extra chakra, he's bound to lose control of it when performing ninjutsu or genjutsu that require specific chakra control. He's not very good at controlling his chakra in the first place, so a lot of his attacks will get out of hand or won't be powerful enough unless he uses up a lot of chakra first. His bijuu is a six-tailed ocelot. She's perpetually angry, and lashes out at him simply for existing as her prison, claiming there’s no reason for her to continue living when she has to learn to work with him. Many times she'll dump chakra into his system out of rage, and he has to find a way to get rid of it. She constantly talks to him, belittling him and telling him how weak he is and that he'll never get anywhere.
Personality: Kaoru's not one to start fights, but he has been caught up in more than a few; this led to his abilities in taijutsu. He believes that he shouldn't even be on a team if he can hurt them accidentally, and doesn't think that he'll be able to learn to control his chakra. Many good-intentioned jounin have tried to teach him in the past, but it never worked out very well. Due to the bijuu constantly talking in his ear, he's selfless to the point where he will sacrifice himself for others without a second thought; he doesn't think he's worth as much as them, even if he is a jinchuuriki. He doesn't really know how to respond when people see him as more than a necessary evil, or a dangerous, uncontrollable cage. He's very soft-spoken but has strong opinions, and he hates more than anything to go against what he believes in. Many times, he simply will refuse. This small amount of willpower has kept him from being taken over by the tailed beast. On a good day, he'll go and get some groceries, go to training, and talk to a few people about simple things related to the weather. On a bad day, he can't even get out of bed; he'll miss assignments and training and tell them later that he was sick, or he had something more important to do. The Mizukage knows what happens when he has bad days, but there's not much that can be done. He pushes away the people who try to help him - they always end up being the ones who hurt him, in the end. There has been talk of moving the bijuu to a better candidate, but the Mizukage has a soft spot for Kaoru and sees potential somewhere in him. Moving the tailed beast would most likely kill Kaoru, and the Mizukage would at least want to see what Kaoru’s potential is as a Genin.
Signature Moves:
Dynamic Entry (Rank D): The user throws an object, usually a kunai, to distract their opponent while jump-kicking them in their blind spot.
Hidden Mist Technique (Rank D): The user creates chakra either from a water source or their own mouth (in Kaoru’s case, he needs a water source) and can make it thicker by kneading more chakra into it.
Shadow Clone Technique (Rank B): Where the user creates corporeal copies of themselves, and their chakra is divided evenly between however many there are.
Field of Specialty: Taijutsu, however he’s more evenly balanced between ninjutsu and taijutsu.
Weapons: Standard-issue kunai and shuriken.
Weaknesses: Although Kaoru is skilled in taijutsu, he just doesn’t have the height or weight in order to take on bigger opponents. In this case, he’ll normally resort to ninjutsu or using shadow clones. He can get distracted by his bijuu, and when she dumps chakra into his system his clones will be interrupted, or he’ll be forced to use up the chakra so he can more easily control his attacks.
History: He was born into the Mist as a normal child, and given the bijuu around age six. There were mixed opinions about him - whether he would grow up to be a monster or not. His parents were more scared of him than the most superstitious citizens, and send him to an adoption center less than a week after he was given the six-tails. Kaoru was adopted by a string of people who were just curious about the bijou, and would forget that he was an actual boy, not just a vessel for a monster. Each time, he'd run away back to the orphanage, and after the fourth time it grew to be his permanent home. He grew up with a few loose friends at the center, but he heard the conversations they had when they thought he couldn't hear about how he was too timid to function or how they were waiting for him to turn into a monster. Shortly after that, the bijuu started speaking to him, at first lightly chiding him for being so young and so foolish, but later becoming angry as the days wore on. She also revealed that she simply had no desire to live any longer, and was waiting for the day when she could wear Kaoru down enough to kill him. After this, he threw himself into his studies, chanting "shut up" to the bijuu in between every punch, every kick. She still talked, and told him how he'd never be good enough to be an actual ninja, not when his kicks were too low and his punches too weak. So Kaoru set out to prove her wrong, and he finally did when he graduated the Academy a year ahead than most children.
