It occurs to me now that there might be a wrench or two accidentally thrown into my plan. Kaben, do you have an idea of a theme for Emily as a Keeper? Will you keep a fiery theme?

Yes, but possibly a bit more leaning towards Runic fire as at the start she won't have the power for the magical flames, and then runes will grow on her. So, the Runic Under-Keeper would be the idea.

BBeast said
That would be a terribly dreary place to be a Keeper, especially since Emily lacks the magic to leave the Underworld herself.

Well, Emily is hardly the kind of girl that likes kittens and rainbows, so that's fine. But, lacking the magic to leave is fine. Just have to consolidate her power until a new portal is opened.

Maybe Keeper over a small swathe of land down there, but not the entire underworld. We're talking about an entire realm, with millions of demons, many of whom are so powerful that I'm not even letting Shaige summon them as anything less than level five or six creatures.

So, make a demonic democracy rather than an absolute monarchy. Council Of Evil.

Cyclone, any word on my question about Fangir?

~~

Repost, for your convenience:

"How strong is Fangir, btw, as because the ice is spreading from his gauntlet, in order to yank the Champion up and over, he'd have to break the Champion's ice where it's strongest."

Oh, completely forgot to answer you. In his wooden form he'd be close to as strong as a zealot. Maybe 1.5 times that of a normal human in his physical prime.

Unless the ice had already stretched from the unspecified part of his back and covered his shoulder blades, I think he'd be able to at least reach back, if not do the throw.

Hmm, the Ripper has remained silent throughout Clotho's little mental 'debate'. He might have a word or two to say about destruction being necessary and inevitable in any case, with oblivion the ideal state of being.

She was several hundred feet away from the stone that emanated the Ripper's presence and she hadn't yet formed the bond with Ripper that brings their minds closer together. I'd say she was safe.

The problem is not the reaching, it's that, in order to move the Champion, he'd have to break the ice covering said unspecified part of his back.. Because said ice is affixing the Champion to Fangir there. Literally the strongest part of the ice must be broken, with a one handed over the head pull (not the body's strongest maneuver).

I don't think* a normal person can perform a throw with one hand like that (given that the Champion is set and has no momentum for Fangir to use against him), and given that the magical boosts to strength and magical boosts to "stay there because ice" are equal, I think it'd just be a painful tug.

*by no means a martial arts expert, but the judo throws I have seen all involve two hands. and generally having an extended arm or forward momentum.

So is the champion's hand stuck to Fangir's back? If not, grabbing somebody by the hair, then squatting down and jerking their hand forward would probably be more than enough to send them tripping over your shoulder. Especially if you're particularly strong, as in this case. I've done a judo throw once or twice before and would think that this would work, but otherwise I'm not much of an authority either.

I didn't interpret your writing as the champion's gauntlet remaining attached to his back, bu if that is the case, I don't think a throw would be as easy. Like you said, if would just be a painful jerking movement, perhaps followed by a few wild stabs of Fangir's dagger going behind.

If it is the latter case then Fangir wouldn't be aware of the gauntlet being stuck, only thathe got hit from behind and feels really cold on his back. So my post wouldn't need editing.

Alright, looks like we've figured things out, I'll post sometime soon.

I was imagining he had to maintain contact to continue spreading the ice. I feel like icing people over from range would make fights too much of a "Do I have more magic than you? If yes, insta-win. If no, insta-lose."

Hmm. The paragraph where this happened is this:

"Fangir might have a chance to recognize what was really going on now, as the real Champion materialized out of the mist behind him and slammed a gauntlet into his now slowed flesh from behind, while the illusion veiled ice sculpture in front of him, designed to guide Fangir's attacks towards Soran, melted instantly away. The gauntlet, though unable to penetrate the oaken flesh, sent mystic ice flooding over his limbs to restrict Fangir's form and magic. The Champions form also began armoring itself in ice, as though he expected to whether an attack."

The phrasing 'slammed his gauntlet into his now slowed flesh from behind' made me think of it as a punch. The thing about punches is that it would be hard to keep your fist in contact with what it hit even if you were to try, because the force almost always propels the person backwards to an extent while Newton's Third Law of Motion would mean that the blow itself would push your fist back towards you.

That was just the reasoning behind my interpretation, anyway. It makes sense that if ice appeared upon contact, the gauntlet could stick and contact could be maintained. The issue then is that if it's stuck really good the champion will have a hard time getting his hand free, whereas if it isn't then Fangir could probably break loose with ease.

The first part of Viktors epic narrative is up, all 10650 characters of it. Though it is mostly done, I'm going to separate it into various parts so it's less wall-like, and so I have time to rethink my writing.

Oh, and as a side note, I am purposely not adding the compendium entries for the groups I mention in these next few posts, as most, if not all will be destroyed or disestablished. War and whatnot.

At least make a compendium post of Altearx some time, at least for the record of what it was before you conquer it.

The latter sounds about right. I was going to write a decent amount from the perspective of the demon that pulled her in, but didn't have the time. You could either wait for me to get around to that or just flesh out the demons yourself.

Would there be just one demon around the portal, or many? I have a good idea for both of them. But, I'm all for waiting to get the demon's perspective.

So you can wrap things up, Cyclone:

Both Fangir and the Champion, exhausted by their battle with each other, are incinerated by Soran's fireball, presumably.

The people in inside the temple have suffered some serious casualties from:
A. Emily's explosion, the collapses, suffocation, and panic also caused from that.
B. Those trying to escape before the zealots got there, and getting killed by Pain elementals/a very few making it .

You won't get the full five thousand, but there'll still be a few thousand. Maybe in the 3000-3500 range.
