[OOC] The Devil in the Details: an Assassin Roleplay

It's 2430, and most would say the world isn't what it used to be. The government is so corrupted nothing can drag it out of the darkness, and power is doled out only to those who are willing to spill blood for their own gain. These assassins range from simple street thugs to highly-trained killing machines. They go around finding whatever work they can, but are just as willing to turn on an old employer for the promise of better pay or benefits.

The new self-titled 'king' of the country is named Edward Bradley. It's said he bought his way to the top with dozens of bodies of government officials and thousands of dollars in bribes, but in his victory speech he promised to rid the country of the assassins that have flocked to the cities like flies on rotting meat. A select few of the assassins have been turned into 'instruments of peace,' meaning they'll be the ones hunting down those who do the dirty work of their employers. Among the assassins, they're known as traitors, scum of the lowest degree. This announcement has bred major distrust even among the most closely-knit groups. As the saying goes, everyone has a price. Many have gone into hiding until the whole thing blows over, but there are some who can't afford to or simply couldn't survive without a job to do. How will you survive in this strange new world?

Appearance:
Angela is an average 5’ 4” but she has a very muscular build from years of training. She looks to be an average weight, but is around 150 lbs. Ang has a shock of red hair that’s cut short into a bob, and she often dyes it different colors to blend in with the crowd. Her eyes are a light, almost clear blue. Normally Angela wears neutral colors, usually jeans and a t-shirt, and she doesn’t really like to dress up unless it’s necessary. On assignments, she wears black spandex and sneakers. Angela doesn’t bother with makeup, claiming it’s a waste of her time. When she’s not working, she’ll wear a silver watch which she claims is from her grandmother and a silver necklace with a bird pendant, which is actually from her grandmother.

Personality:
Angela is very often sarcastic and snippy, bordering on rude (and many times crossing the line). She uses anger to cover up her real emotions, and as a result pushes others away who just want to help her. She has a chronic habit of swearing and doesn’t tolerate any sort of lying or half-truths from anybody. Ang tends to run her mouth too often, and lets secrets slip as a result. She’s also quick to anger and is too proud to back down from a fight, which has resulted in too many injuries to count. Her family is also her weakness, and could be used against her. Angela’s careful to make no mention of them, but sometimes words slip out or somebody follows her home and she has to kill another person to keep them safe. When Angela gets particularly angry, she makes rash decisions which can have terrible ramifications. However, she’s very proud of the work she does. Ang is most comfortable in a dark bar sipping beer and watching the patrons come in and out throughout the night. Ang prefers to be the one watching the action rather than the one participating, which is why she managed to stay hidden this long. She’s paranoid enough to stay alive in this city, and she’d like it to stay that way. When she’s on a job, the constant anger in her head just disappears and Ang does what she has to do, coldly and quickly. It’s its own form of therapy, she supposes.

General History:
She grew up in this city as a young, innocent child for too short a time. Ang was seven when she saw her first dead body – and after that, they just kept pouring in. She didn’t really know what was happening, but she lived through one of the biggest massacres this city had ever seen, with people, assassins and civilians alike, killed for treason. She grew to have a high tolerance for gore and blood, almost a fascination with the victims she saw on the street. Ang lived with her mother and father, and joined a group of older assassins at age eleven with the intention of protecting them from the terrible things she saw walking to school each day. Her extracurricular activities were learning how to fire a weapon properly, learning how to pickpocket, and how to disappear in a crowd. The group she grew up with was killed by some assassin who she still hasn’t found and doubts she ever will. But for some reason, Angela survived, and she intends to make the best use of her life. At seventeen, she dropped out of school and made her living as a mercenary of sorts, doing whatever work didn’t require spilling blood. She avoided killing for as long as possible, until it was the only option if she wanted to have enough money to send back to her parents. They know she’s an assassin – and they disapprove, of course – but they can’t deny the bloodstained money when they need it so badly. Their relationship isn’t shattered by her line of work, but there’s always tension in the air when she goes to deliver part of her paycheck every month. Angela doesn’t talk about her job around them, and they can pretend everything’s okay. She’s fine with that.

Weapons used:
She prefers to use a simple steel combat knife with a black handle. It’s always on her, strapped to a sheath on her ankle. However, on most assignments she uses a sniper rifle, which is stripped of all the bells and whistles excluding the scope. If she knows she’s walking into a potentially shady assignment she’ll take a pistol with her, but it’s seldom used.

Strengths:
Angela is a pretty formidable opponent when it comes to close combat, despite her size. She could take on at most two people with relative difficulty; three people are a stretch. She’s a good enough shot to only miss on rare occasions, and out of necessity, she doesn’t require a spotter. For Ang, it’s almost as easy as riding a bike. Her size allows her to move around quickly without being detected.

Weaknesses:
Since she’s not extremely tall, Ang has a disadvantage when it comes to close combat. She’s light on her feet and can pack a powerful punch or kick, but it’s more a matter of if the hit will land in the first place. When she’s angry, Angela’s not nearly as accurate or efficient; most times when she was beaten in a match the opponent was either taller than her or had taunted her into a blinding rage.

Loyalties:
Only to the people she considers precious, like her family and some friends. Other than that, she has no qualms about backstabbing for her own gain.

Gregori is a stocky brute of a man, reaching 5'8 and carrying most of his weight in his upper body. There is nothing gentle in his features, hardened and scarred from years of violence and abuse suffered upon him by his masters. Most of his hair is shaved close to his skull, leaving patches bare from ugly scars that stretch from the back of his skull to his face. Both of his eyes are mismatched and his left seems to be dead though it can be seen moving on it's own accord. His nose is crooked from being broken so many times that Gregori has lost count and memory of when they took place, much could be said the same of a mouth of missing and broken teeth. Across his torso is riddled with intricate and elaborate tattoos of Russian Orthodoxy and Cyrillic characters and more scars, a testament to a life of brutality. Despite the injuries suffered, his body language speaks but silence as he stands motionless as though he were made of stone and hard flesh.

Personality:
A man of few words and curt answers, Gregori makes for poor company yet there are times when his choice words hold a certain amount of wisdom from personal experience. Methodical and calculated, Gregori may look rash and quick to action but takes great lengths to ponder any obstacle that lies before him. He is obedient, as his name suggests, he holds loyalty as one of his only redeeming virtues. At a glance, he may appear even a dull and uninterested but may actually be more observant than he lets on to be. With a history such as his own, he forgets little and bears his grudges close.

General History:
From a gutter rat to a hardened convict, violence has dogged his every step for as long as he could remember. No parents, no loved ones to show kindness on him; Gregori was raised by the degenerates and criminals of the Russian underworld. At an early age, Gregori showed a temperament for violence and by the time he was in his teens he was a seasoned veteran, beginning a career in illegal fighting rings against men larger and older than himself. It was inevitable that men of organized crime would recognize his set of talents and pull him from the ring and make him an enforcer, collecting on those who could not or would not pay debts owed to the mob. He was no stranger to death, so it did not come as a surprise to the mob that when debts went unpaid those who owed money were found mangled and gruesome. His ferocity was rewarded with a new job, handling the competitors of his bosses and making sure they knew who reigned. Even after years of obedience, eventually his masters tried to put down their dog. Gregori wasn't ready to meet death, so he found new masters.

Weapons Used:
Gregori will use just about anything to see the job through but often finds it easier to pack light and keep his victims unaware, two hands are more than enough for even the most formidable target. Handguns feel small and clumsy in his hands, opting for weapons procured on site or blunt objects.

Strengths:
Gregori relies on brute strength and decisive thinking to see a job through, he can take a sizable amount of punishment. This acts as both a strength and weakness, he may be able to handle multiple attackers but is still vulnerable to small arms and edged weapons. Any foe that finds themselves in his grasp will not live very long and like a rabid dog he goes for the neck, a firm squeeze is all it takes. Gregori is also quite competent in taking orders from others, once tasked he thinks of little else but completing the mission.

Weaknesses:
Because of his eyes, his aim is poor with firearms making even shooting the broadside of a barn difficult. Nor is Gregori agile when it comes to making the distance into striking range, something that requires him to wear light armor to protect himself from small caliber rounds. A key disadvantage is his lack of communicating or team building skills, partners may feel alienated or disregarded and even Gregori recognizes this as one of his biggest flaws.

Loyalties:
There is no question to his loyalty to those he serves, so long as they allow him to serve; but if betrayed he has no problem turning on his master.

Xavier

Name: Xavier

Age: 10

Gender: Male

Appearance: Xavier has an average build for his age, standing at about 4’3 and weighing about 73lbs, seeming quite thin, although he’s strong enough to hold his own for at least a little while, so that he can escape. His facial complexion is obviously one of a child with relatively large, innocent seeming eyes that are a complete lie. He’s almost always smiling cheerily, an effect which makes him seem quite eerie, especially to his fellow assassins. He generally wears clothes that are dark, yet seem like something a child would wear. Dark blue jeans are the regular for him, and an oversized black hoodie, possibly a slightly brighter shirt underneath.

Personality: Xavier is very, very cheerful when with his fellow assassins, always seeming to look on the positive side of things. He constantly refers to others as sir or ma’am, even if they’re below him, which seems normal for his age, and is constantly overlooked. However, when he says it, it’s usually in a mocking manner, he doesn’t truly think they’re above him. He’s realistic, albeit the fact he’s generally got a positive attitude and a positive outlook. His maturity level is slightly higher than a kid his age, yet it’s still obvious he’s not very mature at all. He generally follows along with what he’s told to do, since he’s aware of the fact he’s a child and his decisions wouldn’t necessarily be the best, yet if something really bothers him, he does something about it.

General History: 

Xavier was kidnapped from his family at the age of 4, yet his family hardly seemed to care. Some assassins were hired to kill off a man, yet this man was careful, he couldn't be killed through the usual means. And that would be where Xavier came in, he was bait. He was trained to follow his master's orders well, and when the time came, he did his job with no problems, and he turned out to be a useful asset, so they kept him around. They gave him basic assassin training, yet never expected much from him in that area.

One day, when Xavier was six years old, that all changed. He was assigned to what seemed a regular assignment, being the distraction, the bait. However, the man had two bodyguards, one of which used to be an assassin, and when Xavier approached them, he assumed this was the boy he had heard a few rumours about. He immediately attacked the boy, and so one of his masters rushed out, not wanting the boy to be killed. He managed to kill the man who attacked Xavier before he was hurt or before that bodyguard had a chance to explain. However, the second bodyguard  killed his master, and Xavier had to think quick, and so he did. He pretended he had no idea was going on, and sneaked the dead bodyguard's gun away. He killed the bodyguard first and then the target, using deception and surprise, and of course a gun.

When he got back, his other master was devastated at her partner's death, for she had lost a skillful partner who did jobs well. However when she realized that Xavier managed to complete the job, she was impressed and had hope. She began to train him, and he was a quick learner, and when he turned older it would be discovered that he was quite good at killing. Physical strength was obviously not his forte, so she taught him the arts of stealth, deception poisons, etc. She only let him take up requests after he was nine, and very well trained. She kept training him and taking care of him, making him a better assassin than would be expected of a 10 year old.

Weapons Used: Xavier doesn't use any big weapons, for he needs something small to be able to work without being hindered. He has two pistols, a 6 inch switchblade, and multiple needles with poisons.

Strengths: Xavier's main strengths are speed and deception. He can run faster than most everyone, although his stamina is average. He is also quite flexible, and the combination of the two can make it quite hard to hit him. Xavier is stealthy, moving from one place to another without being noticed is very easy for him. He's also very deceptive, for he pretends to be an innocent, lost, helpless child to his target, and when they lower their guard he kills them. He's quite knowledgable with poisons, and he's even made a few of his own with his master. He's an excellent marksman, he doesn't need much time to aim, one could even say he shoots instantly when he pulls a gun out. He's also good at noticing muscle movements before an action.

Weaknesses: His most obvious weakness is strength. He is not strong at all, and would be next to useless in a hand to hand fight. He stands a chance in close quarter combat if he has his switchblade, but the chance is very low, since his only ally is speed. He's also just a kid, and as good as he might be with deception, it's a two way street, deceiving him is quite possible. His performance declines if he's upset, or if something is bothering him. He isn't very intelligent either.

Loyalties (if any): The only loyalty he has is to his master, the remaining one that had kidnapped him when he was a child.

Gender: Female

Appearance: Stands at relatively average height of 5'6. Pale skinned, with a fair and unblemished complexion augmented with make-up. She evidently takes a lot of pride in her appearance, and at any time in public appears generally immaculate. She possesses green eye flecked with yellow in the centre, and blonde hair that is often worn in a variety of elaborate styles atop her head. Usually favours less practical clothing - large dresses, parasols on sunny days, vast amounts of jewellery and other finery, especially at important events. Her general thinness and girlish complexion usually mark her out as weak and not entirely intimidating amongst a crowd, a fact that she uses to her express advantage when dealing with less delicate matters. Those who see her when she is working in a more violent setting would hardly recognise her without her assorted finery. Her face has soft, delicate and extremely (stereotypically) pretty features.

Personality: Verité's most noticeable personality attribute are her fine manners. She maintains an air of decorum no matter what business she goes about when in her day to day life. This is usually a pleasant trait, however in less formal situations it can lead to her appearing aloof, snobbish or archaic in her mannerisms. Publicly, she is not quick to anger and is generally soft spoken, calm and thoughtful. Privately however, she can manipulate her personality to suit the situation that she is in - especially when it comes to matters of work. Her adaptability in this regard has been helpful to her throughout her career as an assassin, allowing her to blend in amongst the most upper classes and the lower classes of society.

General History: Verité de Merteuil was born Veronica Simpkin in one of the most deprived areas of the big city. Her mother was a prostitute, and she never knew her father. For the first fifteen years of her life she eked out a meagre existence, attempting to gather enough food to last her through the week and enough money to afford herself a half-decent education. When her mother died, Veronica took to the street-walker life herself in order to fund her life. Encounters with the elite of society allowed her to elevate her status, but also harboured a fledgling hatred for the establishment in the young girl. She abandoned the life of the courtesan for that of the assassin sometime later, upon the realisation that her involvement with members of the elite had given her a prime opportunity to attack those with the most protection at their weakest. Surprisingly, killing came easy to her - perhaps a remnant of her time at the bottom of society. Since then, she has acquired a vast personal wealth eliminating some of society's most deplorable men. Or working for them.

Weapons Used: Poison is the most common weapon, mixed into a glass of wine or a cocktail. She is also fond of small, stiletto daggers and garrotting with a thin piece of silk that she keeps as a garter around her leg.

Strengths: Knowledge of poison, innocuous appearance, relations with the elite of society.

Weaknesses: Physical weakness, lack of training with guns.

Loyalties (if any): Verité's only allegiance - thus far - is to herself, and to the accumulation of wealth and status that she has begun to crave.

Appearance: Rock stands at around 5'11 and is a muscular but still curvy woman,she has well toned muscles which is what most if not all of her body fat consists of.Rock has black hair she keeps back in a pony tail most of the time,when not in said pony tail it comes down to her shoulders.Her eyes are an amber goldish tone her skin is tanned slightly she has tattoos across both arms one arm is simply twisting tribal tattoos.While the other one is skulls and guns along with her name.She wears a sleeveless bullet proof vest most of the time with a black half top under it.The vest isn't overly heavy to her as she's worn it for some time,it isn't even truly bullet proof unless it's a a low caliber bullet.She more likes the style of the vest and usually wears it open like a jacket anyways.She wears mostly black men's cargo jeans with pockets down the sides,as well as black fingerless gloves that also leave her knuckles exposed.

Personality: Rock is very competitive, easily bored, and extremely ill-tempered. she is undiplomatic, believing in the use of brute force and coercion to get her way. In contrast to this, she's highly ticklish.

Rock uses heavy amounts of foul language. She also takes maniacal glee in killing anyone and everyone.

She also has very little remorse for her enemies and many times have often stepped on male enemies' crotches for fun to show them how weak they are. However, she looks at it as doing them a favor as she believes any man would love a sexy women such as her to "abuse" them.

Due to an impoverished upbringing which involved verbal, physical and sexual abuse from those who had power over her (such as her father or the police), Rock has developed an obsession towards power, over both herself and others, which causes her to appear fiercely independent and violently assertive, often using verbal or physical abuse as a response to anyone who crosses her or to assert her dominance. However, while she appears to be tough, savage and strong-minded, her exterior actually covers up a profound lack of inner-strength and fear of the powerlessness she felt as a child. Her independence is actually more of a reactive attachment disorder, alienating others as much as possible to prevent the exposure of her own weakness and vulnerability. Rock believes the chief source of power in life is money, the "one thing everyone respects and agrees on", and consequentially has developed an obsession with maximising the profits from each job as much as possible, such as ransoming others and looting corpses.

She also has a particular distain for being treated like a 'lady' and will lash out quite aggressively at people who take her as helpless or as a damsel.She dislikes authority and as she likes to say 'normal' people or 'those rich fat bastards that are sitting under palm trees'.

General History never talks about her past as she doesn't want to think about it, she will bite someone's head off if they try to ask her about it,telling them usually 'to mind their own fucking business" usually followed by some kind of death threat. Rock, is a Chinese-American born and raised in Chinatown, Manhattan,.Her father was a severe alcoholic who was highly abusive, in one instance smashing a bottle into Rock's face. One day, having been chased out of the house by her father's violence, Rock sits crying on the sidewalk when a policeman pulls over and arrests her for no reason. Once in the cell, the sadistic officer brutally beats and rapes Rock.What finally pushed Rock over the edge, is when she explains what happened to her father and he simply tells her to get him another drink. She eventually shot her father at point blank range. She places a pillow over his head to suppress the noise, or to perhaps avoid looking at her first victim.

There are apparently other occasions when the police had abusively exploited their authority over Rock the cops once beat the hell out of her for no reason at all, which completely broke her faith in God, which she had previously clung to in desperation. Rock always believed that the police abused her because to them she was "just another little ghetto rat, with no power and no God."

Weapons Used: guns of all kinds But Her weapons of choice are a pair of modified Beretta 92F's; which are made out of stainless steel and had their barrels extended from 4.9" to 5.9" each (the 5.9" is the combat MOD barrel) and are also adapted for silencers. They are engraved with "Dance fucker dance" on both sides, as well as the Jolly Roger of the infamous pirate Calico Jack (which is also inlaid into the ivory grips)Rock is ambidextrous and can accurately use two guns at once with ease.

Name: Grojan Moneng

Age: 68

Gender: Male

Appearance: Grojan's age is beginning to show, with his once muscly and broad figure becoming thinner and leaner. He is 6' 7" with a slender build. He takes a small amount of time in regards to personal grooming, as is evidenced by his finely-trimmed military-style moustache. The rest of his face is clean shaven. His aged white-grey hair is slightly longer down the back, touching the edge where the neck meets the shoulders. He has a pronounced chin with a broad jaw and forward, roman nose. His forehead is beginning to wrinkle to the extent that he appears to be frowning; his large, furrowed brows only add to this appearance. There is a small scar that runs across his right cheek from a close engagement many years ago.

Personality: Many years in service as an assassin have left him cynical and pessimistic. In a "conscious" mindset he feels that there is no point in attempting to avoid execution if "they" find you. He is a quiet person who would rather listen to others than speak. It is nigh unto impossible to change any of his values or opinions, however. His main attitude to the issue of the removal of the assassins is that resistance is futile and that waiting patiently is the secret to survival. He consciously prepares himself (through visualisation) for withstanding the torture, questioning and executions that will inevitably overtake him, without giving the names of other assassins. He is constantly worried about other assassins being caught and "broken" into giving his name and makes it very clear to younger assassins that in such desperate times, they must stand in unison and give away nothing. Despite his worst fears, however, he does not stop any younger assassin who is "going to get him/her self killed". On a subconscious level, however, lies a hope, hidden among the pessimism and cynicism, that he will survive. Deep within his motives is the will to survive.

General History: Grojan was born on a small farm, just outside of Jefferson, Missouri. He lived there with his single mother and three older sisters until he was thirteen years old, when he left to attend a political-military academy. During his time at the academy, he exceeded in all grounds, especially the military aspects. He graduated from the academy at age seventeen, first in his class. At the graduation ceremony, he was approached by a number of high level executives from Elecon Co. who wished to hire him as a private assassin for the disposing of high-level executives in competitive firms. His first mission was successful, and he slowly worked his way through the ranks of head assassin, by the (comparatively) young age of 48. His job at this level consisted mostly of organising other assassins, and his skills began to slowly deteriorate. It was at the age of 56, however, that this had to change. He was sitting in his office one day, when he noticed a glint of light coming from the rooftop of another building. He ducked under his desk just in time to escape the hail of bullets that penetrated his office. He managed to escape alive, but has since trained his skills to the level of the average 40 year old. His company recently "acquitted" (fired) him due to King Bradley's inquisition.

Weapons Used: In his younger age, he went through a variety of stages including stealth melee, blunt melee, long-ranged sniping, short-ranged sniping and quick assault (rambo). In his older and more patient years, he has begun to rely more heavily upon stealth and camouflage. A master of natural patterns and appearances, he is able to blend in with virtually any environment. He mostly relies upon short-range sniping and patience, carrying an old M22-EBR marksman rifle and both a Browning pistol and a survival knife for close-quarters engagements.

Strengths: He has extensive street knowledge with regards to sniper posts, hidden alleyways and underground entrances due to his extensive experience. He is also incredibly patient and is willing to find a spot days in advance. His brilliant knowledge of making camouflage is also a great advantage, especially in combination with his knowledge of most American cities.

Weaknesses: His athletic skills are extrememly limited and he cannot move very quickly. He would be quickly overtaken in any chase and he would not survive a jump out of a two story building. He can no longer climb to where he needs to be and relies heavily upon stairs to take up advantageous heights.
