The inside of the Lacrosse was empty, the only moving things were the service bots that kept the ship together while the crew slept. The ship was being piloted by an automated system that would bring them into the LP-301 system and place them in geosynchronous orbit above the seed colony on the planet's surface. It has been four years since the Lacrosse's departure from the Sol system, our home, and it still has quite a way to go before reaching its destination. In the rear of the ship lies the crew, all four of them asleep for the duration of the journey inside cryogenic sleep chambers.
Six Years Later
The Lacrosse enters geosynchronous orbit above LP-301a and the auto-pilot deactivates, handing over manual control of the ship to its crew once they awaken from their cryo-sleep. Cryo-sleep was not really a pleasant experience, but it wasn't totally unpleasant either. It was more like sleeping but not dreaming, just the blackness in between falling asleep and waking, leaving nothing but the feeling that a long time has passed even though you haven't aged a day. The unpleasantness comes before and after the sleep, the freezing cold that you experience while falling asleep and waking up is like being outside, naked, in the freezing wind and snow after being in a warm place for an eternity.
As Jean opened his eyes he shivered and groaned. The inside of his cryo-chamber was ice cold and the light shining through its glass cover was blinding. Jean covered his eyes and pushed the lid open, climbing out of his pod in his underwear he set his bare feet down on the steel floor and yelped. The cryo-chamber was cold but the steel floor of the ship was worse. He hopped from foot to foot until he reached his locker and put on his thermal undersuit, a wetsuit-like garment that kept the wearer warm in cold temperatures and cool in hot temperatures, it made the chilly room far more comfortable as he walked around slamming his fist against the glass of each pod. "Wakey wakey sleepyheads, we're here!" Jean shouted and walked back to his locker to finish getting dressed while he watched the rest of his squad-mates waking up.
