It's been a year since the dreaded Change began. A series of dramatic changes in nature that perplexes both science and religion. Science says that the changes are the results of microscopic black holes opening across the Earth and introducing alien elements through them. The religions of the world claim that these are the end times, mankind's punishment for becoming increasingly decadent and sinful. At this point in time, both explanations seem equally plausible.

The 20th century saw numerous scientific advances. Prehistoric creatures were brought back. Robotics thrived and progressed astoundingly fast. Energy-based weaponry came to be. Men could become animal-men.

Come 2013, it would have been our world, had it not been for the massive steps taken in scientific advancement. Obama was still president. China still rose up on the world's stage. North Korea was still a thorn in the side of international diplomacy. But no one could have expected how society as we know it would end.

On January 10th, 2013, what was originally thought to have been a meteor exploded over a remote stretch of Antarctica. The world went on as usual, but then the climates and ecosystems around the entire earth started to become rapidly altered. The Amazon rainforest grew unnaturally rapidly and took back what it lost. Cold and hot climates became more intense and inhospitable. And it doesn't even end there. In certain pockets of different areas, alien anomalies in the very laws of known physics and science came to be. They varied heavily. Some took the form of glowing green pools of toxic goop. Others took the form of gravitational traps that took anything nearby from where it stood and crushed it into a singularity, only to spew out the mulched remains moments later. And countless other forms. And with them came the otherworldly creatures and the mutations that twisted this planet's own people and creatures into feral abominations.

This winter, it's been a year since then.

In Afghanistan, the United States and other members of the multinational coalition there were in the process of withdrawing their troops from the country. Things seemed calmer, but not completely better, than when the Western forces invaded the Central Asian nation in 2001 in the aftermath of 9/11. When the Change began, the southern deserts expanded, and the mountainous northeast became a cold wasteland. Whether a foreign soldier hoping to return home to family and friends, or a local Afghan making what they could of their life, things became harder than when the country was under the tyranny of Taliban rule. Instead of Sharia law, it was the altered weather and creatures. Crops failed, trade and supply was broken, massive riots flared up, and the economy collapsed. Anarchy and chaos became the new law and order.

Ishkashim was a pair of twin towns nestled in a mountain valley straddled along the Panj river, dividing the Badakhshan region along the border of Afghanistan and Tajikistan. It was the gateway to the Wakhan corridor to the east. The foliage here does not provide any decent fuel for fire, so many of the buildings here have been ransacked for firewood during the cold winters. Most of the locals here have already devolved into animalistic troglodytes from mutation and starvation, who now are counted among the other mutant horrors that make this region home. For one to come here would be an act of insanity, bravery, or sheer desperation. Or perhaps all 3.

A grey colossus of a cloud looms over the horizon. Another snowstorm is coming. If someone or something else doesn't kill you here, the cold will.

Da Ruelz

1. No need for any animosity here. Leave it for IC interactions. We're all here to roleplay, chatter, and have fun.
2. Godmodding is prohibited. If you're going to do something that involves shooting, hitting, or doing anything else of the sort to another character, ask them if they'd be okay with that happening to their character.
3. I'm not gonna hold it against you for making a Sue character, but I'll leave it all to any players that end up coming across your special little snowflake to do the dirty work for me. If you don't want that to happen, give them clear flaws. Flaws are more than just a past tragedy like parents dying, keep in mind.
4. Romance is fine. Smut is not. We're gonna dive into some pretty dark territory here, but if it involves things of a sexual nature, try to give that as minimal detail as possible. I don't want to be responsible for another Guildfall.
5. As GM, I have the right to moderate and control the RP as I see fit. But even with knowing my absolute authority in mind, I want you all to help me out as players too. Let this be a good symbiotic process here between GM and the players.
6. You aren't Superman, Godzilla, or any other super-being. Regardless of who or what you are, you are a mere mortal. You will feel pain. You will feel hopelessness and despair. You are not invincible, so turn those cheat codes off and live with it.
7. Death may very well occur here, but not without the player's consent or my final word.
8. Think, strategize, survive, and have fun.

Soundtrack to help with the mood.
-Conceded to dictatorship and rearranged CS
-Appearance has been edited slightly ((ADDED BOOTS =D))
-Occupation was added!
-Origin was added!
-Race was elaborated on.
-Kept Disadvantages Section as a attempt to resist this tyranny
5/10/14
-Personality Edited ((Survivor's guilt syndrome))
-Equipment Edited ((Forgot to add the pouch from my old CS [[The one what went poof before I posed it in the IC]]
-History note added ((Some increments of his past as a soldier is TBR.[[Can be linked to the survivor's guilt syndrome as well ^.^]]))

Name: Bernard Kane
Age: 24
Race Anthro Fox
Origin: NATO Associated foreigner from the United States ((A National Guardsman))
Occupation: Army National Guard
Religion: Believe it or not he is a Quaker and he tries his best to work without discrimination, but being in a military organization where almost an entire group of people hate you, it's hard to not be on edge when he bumped into a local who didn't necessarily give him a good eye.. That all changed though since everyone's probably dead now.

Skills/Abilities: military training, keen senses, hand to hand combat training, quick to react, very agile

Advantage: FUR! It helps him endure the cold, but to an extent..

Disadvantages:
His training and speed are his weapon, but in the situation where it does not come to his favor ((such as a close quarters unarmed combat situation whereas the opponent is significantly stronger)) he can be overwhelmed.

Hesitant killer- "When you're in a fire fight, everything's all reaction... You ain't really thinking about who is shooting at you, all you are doing is trying to stop him from hurting you or your buds... He's like a silhouette when it's a gun battle. It's the silent moments that I fear will dawn upon me.. When you get a good look at his face, and you are forced to squeeze the trigger... I pray it doesn't come to that. ((Mercy killing and taking the first shot might be difficult for the soldier depending on the circumstances.))

Although his tail ensures balance and his nose and ears are better than any ordinary human, they are both sensitive to the touch. A yank, stomp, or grab could potentially paralyze the fox for a split second of he isn't prepared for it or has sustained it for a long period of time.

Also has a combat knife, satchel holding medical supplies and short amount of food along with navigational items such as a map and compass, and a camel pack with a little bit of water. He also carries a vial of water purification tablets.

And last but not least.. A BDU CAP! :D

Relationships: Family, friends, and intimate ones, plus your relations with other characters you come across. Update this as you interact with other players.

Personality: Calm and serene in most situations. During the more tense moments his military discipline shows it's colors, shoving any thoughts or doubts aside during combat. One major characteristic the fox had was his 'warrior's mentality' which means he would stand for the weak and fight the unknown. Some think of it as heroism, but others know it is just one simple concept: being the soldier you are.

Survivor's guilt- Occasionally, the corporal is overwhelmed with guilt.. Something in his past has rocked him around throughout the weeks of staying alive.

-NOTE: Details of his history are TBR.. He might confess them ICily, or throughout the RP flashbacks might occur for the player [[not the character]] to witness-
History: Corporal Bernard Kane was one of your typical soldiers in the Middle East during the American war against terror. He was always the one hanging around the barricades and always the one who seemed to be at the wrong place wrong time. The fox had grown up to be a military man and did his best so he could go back home to see his parents and siblings. Little did he know, it was going to take a lot more for him to simply survive.

With the apocalypse taking a swing it was unknown to many what happened to the armies of NATO. As one of the few who actually did know, the corporal kept the truth to himself, daring not to speak of it even to those who already know of it. With his gas mask that was used to only deal with smoke and tear gas, the fox sets out as a survivor, bent on finding others and finding a way to survive.

Equipment: M4a1 Carbine, .40 Glock 23, Plate carrier vest holding bullet resisting armor, 3-30 round STANAG magazines, 4-16 round Glock magazines, Half empty Camel Pack, Butt pouch ((Containing military issued first aid supplies))
Pouch Contents: Three military field dressings, packaged Iodine rags, packaged sulfur, two morphine auto injectors, and a very small container of water, he has also stuffed two packages of MREs in the pouch... Obviously the soldier needs another alternative to carrying things he will find along the way.

Goals ((I'll just state it in a more simpler form since it is difficult to pull out of the bio))
He is a wanderer, a survivor with the knowledge of the military locations around his area of operation. He is just trying to take his things and move, unaware of the dangers and opportunities that lie ahead.

"God is calling for me to be with my dear wife Nargis. Peace be upon her soul, as I suffer through this journey to be at her home in spirit with her."

Name: Musharraf Azar Khan
Age: 55
Race: Anthro, snow leopard, Pashtun
Origin: Jalalabad, Nangarhar, Afghanistan
Occupation: Farmer, traveller, spiritual medium, ex-Mujahideen fighter
Religion: Nominally an Ismaili Muslim, but also holds a number of shamanistic beliefs as well. He is devout and considers his Islamic faith to be the highest form of authority and guidance, but is still tolerant of believers of different religions and non-believers too.
Skills: Marksmanship, raising livestock, farming, cooking, scavenging, crafting, climbing and balancing, and a keen perception of danger.

Appearance: As an anthro snow leopard, he is technically a human with animal features. His head is very much like that of a snow leopard's but retaining humanoid features like deep brown eyes, a strong squint to his brow, the capacity to make humanoid facial expressions, medium-length black and slightly greying hair, and a thick beard. Other than that, there's just the tail and fur of a snow leopard. He wears a dark blue turban over his head and face, a pair of ski goggles and a thick black winter jacket suited for mountain climbing and cold weather, khaki cargo pants found during a scavenging trip to Kabul, and a pair of Soviet-issue army boots kept since the Soviet war in Afghanistan during the 1980s. He also has a large rucksack, with which he carries what he needs to survive and travel with.

Relationships: He had 3 sons with his now-deceased wife, who now tend to his farm for him as he travels on his spiritual journey. Although he faces lots of discrimination as an anthro man, he tries to maintain a pacifist stance as part of Pashtun traditions of hospitality with everyone he's able to get up close and meet with, but knows how to keep his guard just in case the people he meets during his journeys have less than noble intentions. Aside from his native Pashtun, he is also fluent in Dari Persian, Arabic, Tajik, Uzbek, Urdu, and Russian, and is able to speak English to a certain degree.

Personality: He is calm, soft-spoken, hospitable, and does not enjoy violence, even though he often has no choice but to fight for the sake of survival. Despite his age, he still has intense determination, and and will fight and struggle against the odds as much as he can to get from Point A to Point B. Once he gets to know someone, he is very loyal, and he will treat them as though they are his family. He is honest and expects nothing but honesty in return. He gets very deeply offended when others are dishonest with him, or when they disrespect his culture, family, friends, or religion, and his pacifist nature often gets him in more trouble than he'd like. Bringing up the Taliban and the Soviet war in Afghanistan are also major triggers to him. He is also very hard to have an informal conversation with.

History: Azar Khan was born a regular human in Jalalabad in 1959. Things were quiet during his childhood, up until King Muhammad Zahir Shah was deposed by Daoud Khan, a cousin of the king, in 1973. Azar Khan was only 14 at the time, and had only started helping out his father at his farm. Azar Khan was forced to drop out of school around this time as well. When the communist PDPA launched their revolution against Daoud Khan in 1978, father expressed his support for the new government, and had Azar Khan enlist in the army. He trained with instructors sent down from the Soviet Union to aid the new communist government of Afghanistan, and was then sent up to Tashkent in 1979 to undergo anthropomorphization at the age of 20. Now an anthro snow leopard, he was sent straight into action fighting the Mujahideen rebels rebelling against the new Soviet-backed communist government. However, on his first engagement with the mujahideen, he was captured as a POW. And lo and behold, his father was a mujahideen fighter as well. It perplexed Azar Khan how his father ended up going from supporting the communists to fighting against them, but then came father's reasons. The government had taken their ranch and all of their family's belongings with them. Father had no choice but to join the Mujahideen to try and find new hope for his family by fighting against the Soviets and their puppet regime. Even with Azar Khan being anthro now, father still loved him as his son, and kept any possible discrimination against him by other Mujahideen fighters in check. With his father, Azar Khan fought for the mujahideen with nothing more than his grandfather's old Lee-Enfield rifle, dating back to the 1910s, when the British still controlled Afghanistan's foreign affairs. During this time, he also learned how to make and recycle ammunition, as .303 rounds were in short supply. By the time the Soviets left Afghanistan in 1989, Azar Khan had fought in numerous skirmishes, but he didn't enjoy all the violence that happened during those 10 years. Azar Khan became more spiritual, and sought a stronger devotion to the Ismaili faith for the sake of healing the scars in his soul from the Soviet invasion. He did not enjoy killing at all.

Azar Khan married in 1991 with a Tajik woman, another anthro snow leopard, from Ishkashim. They had 3 sons together over the next 5 years, up until the Taliban took control of the country in 1996. Azar Khan was forced to flee with his family to his wife's home in Badakhshan, where the Northern Alliance held control against the Taliban government. Father had become senile by then, and was killed by the Taliban. For the next 5 years, Azar Khan was back to fighting with his Lee-Enfield rifle, just as he had with his father during the Soviet occupation. When the US-lead Coalition invaded in 2001 in wake of 9/11, it was the first time Azar Khan interacted with any English speakers. He offered his hospitality to the foreigners when they requested it, and whatever else he could do to support them in hopes of getting rid of the Taliban once and for all. In 2004, 3 years after the Taliban government fell, Azar Khan returned to his farm near Jalalabad, where he, his wife, and his 3 sons lived in peace. Up until the Change of 2013, that is.

His wife died during the chaos, but Azar Khan and his sons were able to keep their home and farm, despite all that was happening. They were lucky, but Azar Khan was hurt once again by his wife's death. He sought further spiritual guidance, and put his sons in charge of the farm while he went on his spiritual journey to Ishkashim, to be with his lost wife in spirit where she was from. It's been a chaotic last year, but he pulled through, and he has just arrived on the southern outskirts of the region.

Equipment:
-Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk. III, .303 British
-36 extra rounds of .303 British
-AK-74 bayonet, for melee combat
-1980s Soviet gas mask, just in case
-Small plastic bag of dehydrated wild goat meat
-2.5 litre water canteen, 3/4 full
-A sleeping bag as used by mountain climbers
-10 meters of rope
-Pair of ice axes
-The Quran

Goals: To be with his deceased wife in spirit where she was born and raised.
