He was born a Prince.

She was born a Princess.

He was down to earth and wanted to be a solider.

She enjoyed prowling the night in disguise for the sake of her people.

He wanted to better himself and never gave up in times of hardship or humiliation.

She studied hard in the library, keen to use her brain to help others.

He became a well known solider and fought for the people, being very approachable and beloved.

She found her mind wandering to endless possibilities as she continued to experiment.

They both formed an affinity to the sparkling sapphires in their proximity and soon discovered there was more than one wide world to be discovered and explored. Gems and magic spells are just the beginning for the two royals. Telio and Urkiwa soon manage a connection using the stones and embark on an endless quest to use the stones to form a better world, while preventing them from falling into the wrong hands. This is a fantasy of epic adventures and quests galore. Telio and Urkwia need only venture and never stop until all the questions have been answered.

*clears throat*

Alright, so with the premise pretty much laid out now, we probably need to decide when/how they actually meet. I sort see them just fiddling with varying sizes and seeing how hitting together would provoke a reaction, perhaps in both people doing so in their own world, it opens up some sort of blue vortex? I would say Urkwia would be weary of moving through it so it might be Telio who could make the first move. They could do one mini adventure or outing in her world and then venture to hers next? What do you think?

I think that sounds pretty good. It stands to reason that they both would have amassed a large amount of sapphires, and they have both been actively experimenting with them. Perhaps as they experimented, the two masses of sapphires resonated with each other and that's why the portal opened. It seems like it would fit the characters best if Urkwia was the one who actually opened the portal, and Telio threw caution to the wind and hopped through it.

Would we want different gems to have any sort of individuality to them? Like small etchings to sort of depict what what they do? Some would be for healing, attacking, transport, defense, etc? Or would we want to keep them generic? So we could assume if two teleport sapphires are in use, they could be used to make a portal?

I think it would be good to have some individuality to the gemstones, but I think deviations in hue would be a better indicator. Etchings would mean that somebody had already labeled them, and since our characters are still trying to figure out how they work, etchings don't seem likely. Unless, of course, you want to use the "ancient civilization" plotline, but I think I'd rather leave it open-ended for now. And, yes, I like the idea of two teleport sapphires being in use making a portal. I can also imagine Telio taking special interest in such transportation magic.

Differences in hue would be a challenge to study, which isn't an issue, just something to deal with in terms of how many differences we want. Color is sort of subjective, it seems. We could say most sapphires are plain blue sapphire, some navy/sea color, some lighter/sky color, and some really light or dark? I'd say breaking them into:

Non-magical - most common - plain sapphire
Teleport - rare - dark dark sapphire (near black/navy)
Attack - uncommon - darker sapphire
Defense - uncommon - lighter sapphire
Healing - rare - light light sapphire (near white/pale blue)

Does that work?

That seems like a good setup. I like that the hue makes them a challenge to study. After all, if it was written out plainly then anybody could harness sapphire magic. I think the criteria you have there will work fine for what we're doing.

And there's no reason why things like rubies or emeralds can't come into play later on as well.

In terms of maybe harnessing "elemental" power when attacking/defending, we could try and coordinate that as well?

I have a couple of ideas regarding the offensive spells. There could be a "raw" form of magic that either shoots out a blast of energy, or forms a simple magical barrier, but this form would consume the gemstone in the process. Then the elemental form could be more advanced and difficult to execute, but requires some kind of criteria to execute. If we want to include different gemstones later, then maybe each gemstone is in tune with a special element, but to activate that element it requires that the user achieve a certain mental state. Perhaps sapphires could be curiosity, since that seems to be the common trait between our characters. Activating an elemental spell would draw on the caster's strength and preserve the gemstone. If you like this system we could work out the finer details, or we could try a different system if you have any different ideas.

I would assume once the gem is used (however many times or to what extent) that they would shatter or lose power. I think a wave of energy would work, powered by certain emotions. That's a good idea. If you ever read Alice 19th (I sort of doubt due to it being old and hard to find even back then) but it was a short spanning manga that touched upon words having meaning with emotions. Just reminded me of that. We could have Sapphire for Curiosity. Ruby could be Passion. Emerald could be Protectiveness. Etc. And maybe ones used with more malice or ill-intent could sort of..."sour" a gem and make it impure and more damaging in battle? I'd assume if a sapphire is used, it's energy would be blue, either to attack a foe, defend a user, etc. And ruby would have red, etc. I think that's good, others are probably more native to other locations of course, with perhaps others doing the same poking around.

I think that sounds good. So I guess next we should decide exactly where we want to start with this. Should they open the portal right away, or should there be some kind of correspondence first?

Do you think correspondence is possible? I think if you spoke to a gem and suddenly it spoke back, you might rethink your profession. XD We could say they could correspond once meeting, like if the stones they use touch or something, it could link them together? I'd say go for the portal straight away, I assume Telio would be somewhere wide/open? Not in a city? If he's been wandering around, he could have other gems on his person? I'd think Urkwia would be either in her library or possibly in the outskirts of the capital city where she wouldn't hurt anymore or make a mess.

I didn't specify how much writing we'd do, I left it a big vague. How much do you tend to post on a regular basis?

Do you use 'thoughts' or keep things pretty straight forward?

I generally do at least two paragraphs, more if I have enough to work with. And I do like to do a bit of introspection with my characters, particularly in situations where they're trying to stay calm or make a difficult decision.
