[OOC] Pokemon: The Spectre Conspiracy

Welcome back to Kalos Region, ladies and gentlemen. It's been a solid five years since the whole crisis with Team Flare came and went, and the esteemed Professor Sycamore has moved on to other regions to further his research into Mega Evolution. So who, just who, would take over his research? Meet Professor Apple, a Unova-born genius who shared Sycamore's interest in Pokemon evolution. She's gathered up four young would-be Trainers from across the Kalos Region via mail, explaining her interest in Pokemon research and how her studies mostly have her tied down in Lumiose City. Naturally, they accepted. The appointed quartet is to meet up at Aquacorde City, where they are to finally meet Professor Apple in person and receive their first Pokemon.

The time has finally come. Four young aspiring Trainers-to-be have gathered at Aquacorde Town, where Professor Apple is waiting for them.

Bailey

Name: Bailey de Chance

Age: 15

Gender: Female

Personality: Bailey is, in a word, unlucky. Chalking it up to an old family curse, she's the sort of unlucky where the one day she forgets to write her name on a test, it's the final exam, or no matter how many times she double-checks, she'll always forget something crucial to her day. Those jellybeans with the mixed flavors of good and god-awful? She'll always pull out the bad-tasting ones. Whenever she remembers to bring an umbrella, it's the one time it doesn't actually rain.

But despite the way everything seems to go wrong for her, Bailey tries to keep a good attitude and tough it out. Sometimes the stress from her bad luck can pile up, and once in a while she'll suddenly and unexpectedly fly off the handle at the smallest thing because of it, but she's normally pretty level-headed. She's very personable and tries to help others out as much as she can, but more often than not her luck will just ruin her attempts. Despite this, Bailey still gives it her best shot without any sign of letting her luck get the best of her.

Brief Bio: It wouldn't be fair to call Bailey's past tragic, though it sure wasn't happy. "Unlucky" is the more appropriate term. From the moment she was born, Bailey was cursed with terrible luck, just like her mother, her mother's mother, and going back for at least five generations. It was supposedly something that happened when Bailey's great-great-great-grandmother went and agitated a Litwick she was going to make her first companion of. The Litwick used Hex, and in modern terms, it was super effective. From that day onward, the firstborn daughter in every generation of the de Chance family had unnaturally poor luck. Supposedly, one way to alleviate the effects of the curse is to be around a Ghost-type Pokemon.

When Bailey was born, the doctor tripped on a wire and dropped her. On the first day of school, she swallowed a fly when trying to introduce herself. These and other unlucky things have plagued the landscape of her life from day one. It seemed as though the only sanctuary from this curse was her home, where the family's pet Pokemon - a Chandelure evolved from the very Litwick that supposedly put a curse on the family to begin with - acted as a supposed guardian from bad luck and Bailey's best friend. With her luck, one would figure Chandelure would run away. But no. Rather, it was Bailey who would be leaving home. When Professor Apple sent out letters across Kalos, the de Chance family of Anistar City was among the four families to receive a letter. Thrilled, Bailey's mother encouraged her to go out and see the world. She was excited at first, but now that she's halfway across Kalos, she's not so thrilled to see the world anymore.

Starter Pokemon: Duskull
Starter's Personality: This sharp-witted little Duskull has a fondness for getting into everbody's business. Not because he's nosy, not at all. He just likes to know that everybody's doing well, or give them a helping hand if they're not so well off. If people ignore him when he's trying to communicate, though, he will pester the hell out of them until they finally listen. Though he can't speak in any way humans would understand, he'll do his best to convey his meaning through gestures and whatever's nearby...even if the person doesn't necessarily like what he's telling them.

Anything else: Due to a superstition about her family's curse, Bailey feels most comfortable in the presence of Ghost-type Pokemon. Inversely, the presence of Dark-type Pokemon is said to enhance the bad luck, naturally making Bailey very wary of them.

Professor Apple

Name: Professor Lily Apple

Age: 28

Gender: Female

Personality: Relaxed but never slow-witted, Prof. Apple is the sort of person who would rather talk a person through their question until they figure out as opposed to just giving them the direct answer. Unless it involves her research, Apple feels most comfortable when not operating directly, preferring to remain in the lab while others do the direct work instead. She's always willing to help out those who help her, though, and has a particular pride in her being from Unova.

That said, she does have a few social quirks. If she doesn't like a topic, or the conversation is drifting from one she does like, she'll keep pushing it in the direction she'd rather go until the other person just goes with it or stops talking to her. She also won't hesitate to call somebody out on their flaws if asked about them, and won't hold back. Most of all though, she hates, HATES saying the same thing twice in a row. People who don't listen to Professor Apple and make her repeat herself are probably people she won't call "friend" anytime soon.

Brief Bio: Born in Unova Region in the lovely Opelucid City, Lily Apple has long had a fascination with how Pokemon evolve. What precisely causes it? Why do some Pokemon change so much when they evolve but others change so little? With the discovery of Mega Stones a few years ago, how does that even work? There have always been questions to be asked, and Lily wanted the answers.

Deciding to learn from the best, Lily spent some time studying under Professors Juniper and Juniper, exceeding their expectations as the name Professor Apple shot up the lists of Unova's finest Pokemon Professors. By the time she was 22, there was nothing more for Professor Apple to learn in Unova. She began spending a year in each of the different regions, touring through Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. Until her studies brought her to Kalos Region at age 26, where she met Professor Sycamore. The man was a genius that left Apple baffled. This was what led to her ultimate decision to remain in Lumiose City, studying under Professor Sycamore on all aspects of Pokemon evolution.

For the last two years, she's been working with Professor Sycamore, as well as helping other, newer professors in Lumiose with getting up to speed on what's what. While the final goal of knowing precisely how it all works is still a long way off, Apple likes to take it one step at a time. The current step: "If I can compare the DNA of Pokemon to that of humans, it could go a long way to help figure out how Pokemon evolution works."

Starter Pokemon: Sigilyph
Starter's Personality: Apple's Sigilyph is viciously loyal to its master, even at the most trivial of times. Living up to its origins as a guardian, Sigilyph is very protective of Apple and will happily take a hit on her behalf. That said, it's also very devoid of emotion, having been created by mankind solely to guard in ancient times instead of being a naturally-born Pokemon. As such, it knows no such things as pity or remorse.

Name: Andre Bellamy

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Personality: First off, Andre has tastes that are usually considered femmine. His favorite color is pink, and a lot of his things are pink and have hearts on them. He likes fashion, and he has a taste for cute things, and he's not really emabrrased by it. He really doesn't understand why a lot of boys have an issue with guys liking that kind of thing. He just guesses it's because they're insecure about their masculinity. Andre is very obsessed with beauty and looking good. As a Movie Star, he feels he has to maintain a certain image, and because people don't want to be friends with an ugly person. He always makes sure he is perfectly groomed before leaving the house, and as such it takes him a while to get ready in the morning. Because he puts so much effort into looking good, he hates getting dirty, as it ruins all the work he put in.

He really values his relationships. He goes to great lengths to make friends and fans everywhere he goes. He often attends parties to meet new people. Someone not wanting to be his friend upsets him, and he will try to make that person his friend whether they want to be or not. For the same reason, he also likes love and romance, and as such he comes across as a flirt. He openly hits on people (he's openly bisexual, so guys as well as girls) he considers to be attractive, though he is usually more polite about it then most guys, because he is genuinely looking for a relationship. He also likes pairing people up who he thinks would make a good couple, regardless of gender and orientation, and jokingly teasing the two involved. He can be charming and manipulative when he wants to be. He knows just what to say to win people over, which sometimes helps him get his way in many situations. While he is polite and well-mannered, and typically acts friendly towards others, he treats people like objects to make himself feel better. He can be self-centered, and disregards how other people feel and what they need if it's not benefiting him somehow. It's not something he does consciously, it's just how he is. He was brought up believing that people's affections can be bought, and it's worked out for him so far.

Having become used to being given whatever he wants, Andre has been spoiled by wealth. He has an appreciation for the finer things in life. He wears expensive clothes, drives around in fancy cars, takes exotic vacations, and freely spends money like it grows on trees. He is very generous with his money, since he has so much of it, trading a a few dollars for something better is no problem. He's also found it much easier to woo people with money. He especially enjoys being famous, and being adored by many. He doesn't mind the the craziness that comes with being a cleberty either. Bad publicity is still publicity, as long as people are talking about you, then that's all that matters. Andre has always been accustomed to life on top. His worst fear is losing it all, whether that be ruining his movie career, or losing his hard earned friends. He speaks with a noticeable Kalosian accent and usses French words a lot, but he can speak Englsh just fine.

Brief Bio: Andre was born in Lumoise City, Kalos. Andre's childhood is not what one would consider normal. His parents are both famous actors, and since his birth he's been in the lap of luxury. Due to his parents being famous actors, and therefore often busy, Andre rarely ever saw them. He was also homeschooled for a while, and was rarely able to leave the house. He felt lonely being in a big empty mansion with only caretakers that were too busy to keep the kid entertained. Andre's parents brought him expensive toys to make it up to him. For a while the shiny new toy would make him feel less lonely, but soon he would get bored of it, and the loneliness came back. He thought something better would solve the problem. When his parents announced a new trip, the young boy cried, and of course, his parents brought him a new, better, more expensive gift once they got back. The same thing happened, it would make him feel good for a while, but soon he'd get bored again. He would continue to ask and receive more and more expensive things throughout his childhood. It was great, and Andre grew accustomed to wealth and having anything he wanted on a whim. It was nice, but it still wasn't enough, the bad feelings still didn't go away.

At some point, his parents thought it was a good idea for him to start interacting with other kids, so they enrolled him in a private school. When Ande started going to school, and meeting other people his age, he got a lot of attention from them due to the fancy toys he had that they couldn't afford. At Recess, every kid wanted to play with him. Being with others that likely made him feel just as good, if not better, than opening up a brand new toy. It was then he thought that if new toys won't help, then maybe people will. He made lots and lots of friends, and Andre was happy for a while. Soon his family had to move away, and Andre was transferred to a new school. Having lost all the friends he made, Andre was upset for a while, but he soon worked to make new friends in this new place, and he was happy again. Then his parents moved once more, and the cycle continued. He was never truly content though, because he always had to leave all his friends behind.

At the age of thirteen, Andre's family moved to Virbank City, Unova to further their careers. There, his parents encouraged their son to follow in their footsteps, and become an Actor. They put him in acting classes, and used their connections to pull a few strings, and get him a starring role in a major film. He didn't want to do this at first, but did it anyway to please his parents. While making the movie, he came to enjoy being on a movie set, and acting. When his first movie went to theaters, and became a box-office success, he enjoyed all the fame and attention it brought him. Or more specifically, he liked all the adoring fans. He also enjoyed the piles of money, expensive things, and all the glamour that being a movie star brings. He decided to pursue a film career, while also attending school when he wasn't filming. After doing that for a few years, he became as famous and successful as his parents. He is often chased by Papparazzi and crazed fans, and he is also often the subject of ridiculous rumors in gossip magazines. Usually, they involve him spending absurd amounts of money on something lavish, being seen at a party, or romance rumors with various other celeberties. (Not long after hitting puberty, he discovered how attractive people were, and the joys of love. Although he's never had a serious romantic relationship, much to his disappointment.) He doesn't mind all the craziness that much. As long as he has all his adoring fans, then all is well.

Andre has everything now, devoted fans, a luxurious life, and piles of money at his disposal. Despite this, he still isn't satisfied. He feels like something is missing, but he isn't sure what that is. He recently decided to take a break from filming for a while, and returned to his native region, to do the whole Pokemon Trainer thing he never had a chance to do when he was younger. Then he got a letter from someone named Professor Apple asking for a group of trainers to help with her research. Andre accepted the invitation for the opportunity to make new friends, and get a free Pokemon

Starter Pokemon: Jolie the female Cleffa
Starter's Personality: Jolie Is a relatively young Pokemon, and Andre is still discovering who she is. One thing he's discovered, is that she likes being the center of attention. When no one is paying attention to her, she will do something cute, to get noticed. In general, she enjoys using her cute looks to get what she wants. Aside from that, she is a friendly and playful Pokemon, who really loves how much her trainer spoils her rotten.

Anything else: He specializes in Fairy type Pokemon. Mainly because most of them are cute.

That said, I have three things to nitpick, mostly in the interest of the RP's survival. In order of severity from smallest to greatest, here goes.
1:

Crimson Flame said He speaks with a noticeable Kalosian accent (like everyone else in this RPG...)

Professor Apple would like a word with you. She's from Unova :P
2: To my experience, Clefable is hella competitive. I'll take a deeper look at the fairy in question, but you may want to consider a backup plan just in case.
3: I'm altogether skeptical about the idea of dropping a celebrity into a quartet of people who are supposed to be nobody special, to be polite about it. I don't think the other trainers would appreciate fans and paparazzi invading every time they entered a major city.

Barring the last two of these, you should be fine.

While not a nitpick, I also found something for if you'd like to change your image to something not from tektek. They bring back memories of some very bad RPs for me, but it's more of a pet peeve than an outright problem. While not clad in pink, this fellow seems to bear a pretty close resemblance to Andre.

Miu Kita

Name: Miu Kita

Age: 13

Gender: Female

Personality: Miu is, in short, a bully. She'll only give respect to those with strong pokemon, and even then she's not exactly the type to fawn over others. To her, strength is defined by raw power and she prefers strong attackers to walls or speedsters. Those trainers who don't meet her standards aren't worth her time, in her mind, and at best are brushed off and ignored. At worst, they are actively mocked, though she does draw the line at intentional physical harm. Pokemon that aren't strong enough are tossed aside. She'll push herself and her pokemon to the utmost limit to become the strongest trainer of all, risking injury in the process. A surefire way to piss her off is to try to interrupt her training. She's been called on her attitude before by other trainers and has shown no desire to change.

Outside of pokemon, she's slow to kindness but equally slow to conversation. While good at battling (at least in trainer school), she's terrible at socializing and easily lost in a crowd. Outside of pokemon, she's reluctant to speak her mind as, though she knows a lot about pokemon, she's not so knowledgeable about other topics. She doesn't need anyone's approval, but she cannot stand pity, to her or to others. She does have a bit of a fondness for customizing pokeballs and is not above spending money on the necessary supplies to do so. She's actually quite fond of flying-type pokemon, and wants one large enough to ride. As a final note, she has a weakness for black licorice.

Brief Bio: Miu hails from Kiloude City, oldest of three children. As such, there's barely been a day where she went without seeing a pokemon battle. She's grown up all her life with pokemon - her dad worked as a store clerk, selling TMs of powerful moves to elite trainers, and her mom fought in the Battle Maison. Only a few were tame enough to not try lashing out at a young girl. Her childhood was normal enough, with caring, if perhaps tired and preoccupied, parents, and neither she nor her siblings were left wanting.

Once she was old enough, she was sent off to a trainer academy to learn how to fight. Miu quickly reached the head of the class, between her tendency to train and study battle strategies constantly, and her tendency to pick the meaner pokemon to fight with. She developed a rather intimidating aura around her classmates and got in trouble more than once. Her parents didn't see the point in punishing her if she was actually learning how to battle well. Not once did she call home, however - she refused to give anyone an excuse to accuse her of relying on her parents to learn how to battle.

The Kita family received their letter from Professor Apple, much like the three other families. After much discussion, her parents decided that, despite the fact their middle child had just turned 10, Miu had experience in battling and so would probably leave the best impression on the professor. As such, she was given a train ticket to Lumiose City to go meet Professor Apple at Aquacorde City.

Starter Pokemon: Poliwag
Starter's Personality: Poliwag's a bit difficult to control - she despises schedules and routines, preferring variation in her days. She's by no means a bad fighter, and will work hard to improve, but drawn-out battles bore her and she'd sooner lose her advantage than play a waiting game. She gets jealous easily, especially when she's not the center of attention, but she is capable of warmth and friendliness. For an armless pokemon, she's surprisingly graceful.

My Character

Name: Jess Backster

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Personality: In a word, adamant. Jess is proud, resolute in what she believes in, and strong-willed to the point of obnoxiousness. Despite being overly inclined to prefer everything being done her way, she will relent if sufficiently convinced—a quality she shamelessly touts as being representative of her consideration for others' thoughts, which she lacks. Though of average intelligence, she is less proficient than most in picking up on the feelings of others. She doesn't ever let her opponents get through to her, thinking this to be an act of submission; for instance, if slandered for her weight, Jess might turn it around to point out that she's not trying to pretend she's something she's not. Jess also tends to hold grudges. Despite being self-centered and somewhat arrogant, she is not in the least bit mean-spirited and will not actively seek to hurt the feelings or attack the beliefs of others, and if she discovers she has done so, she will apologize. All in all, she is an indomitable spirit, for better or worse, whose confidence can be both self-destructive and self-preservative.

Though strict with Pokemon, she secretly loves their company, be it fighting gloriously in battle or playing on a sunny day, revealing that she has a friendly side. Among her favorites are the Drilbur line, Pachirisu, Espurr, the Cleffa line, most conventional starter Pokemon, Flaafy, and Zoroark. Much is the same with people once she really gets to know them; she stands by her friends with the same tenacity that infests herself.

Brief Bio: Jess is a native to Kalos, born in Camphrier Town to a happy couple soon after the creation of Kalos's first Day-Care for Pokemon. Growing up, the young girl expressed natural talent as a Pokemon breeder, always trying to bring out the best in the patrons of her parents' business. Be it cruising the extensive river just outside of the Day-Care's back door or perusing grandiose Parfum Palace, Jess quickly befriended the majority of the Pokemon left with the family. As she got older, however, her interests shifted somewhat; after witnessing a local, small-scale Pokemon tournament during an annual celebration several days after her twelfth birthday, she became hooked on battling.

Without a Pokemon of her own, Jess turned to those staying at the Day-Care. Full of excitement and earnest to re-enact the spectacular fighting performed at the tournament, she went in to the Day-Care without her parents' notice or permission and began a naïve institution akin to a tiny gym. Some of the Pokemon were more than willing to brush up on their skills during their vacation; others, Jess more or less forced. Never thinking that some of the creatures were too young or disinclined to fight and without any real knowledge of how to battle, little Jess pitted her friends against each other to see who was the strongest. Lacking proper guidance and restriction, the Pokemon often injured one another or themselves, and daily trips to the Pokemon Center in Camphrier Town with one or more hurt 'mon in tow became commonplace. Nevertheless, the innocent little fight club continued.

One day, the nurse at Camphrier's Pokemon Center finally decided to do something about the seemingly endless parade of wounded Pokemon coming in each day with happy, carefree Jess. She contacted Jess's parents, the Day-Care couple, and advised them to pay closer attention to what their daughter was doing every day after school. Though initially indignant and dismissive, Jess's mother and father quickly discovered her activities and were appalled. Gently they took their misguided daughter aside and explained to her exactly what she had been doing to the poor Pokemon of the Day-Care, many of whom had been little more than babies When the realization finally sunk in, Jess ran off crying and sank into a depression. Remorseful and full of self-loathing, she sought comfort with her Pokemon friends, only to find that they were reluctant to be with her—even afraid. Without anyone to turn to, Jess took comfort in excessive eating, and over the course of a miserable year gained substantial weight. It would take four years for her to regain the trust of the Pokemon, and that of their owners, as well as coping with her own problems. At the end of it, though, Jess emerged as a new person, possessed of an incredible self-confidence and a little more wisdom. When questioned about what caused this self-realization, she claims that a Zoroark found her in the woods behind Shabboneau castle, took pity on her, and befriended her. In light of their daughter's recent redemption, Jess's parents elected to finally give her her own Pokemon by way of Professor Apple and send her on a proper journey.

Starter Pokemon: a Zubat called Belial
Starter's Personality: Belial is very quiet, drawn into itself and shy. It drastically prefers solitude and dark to bright light, loud noise, and chaos. Deep inside he really cares for his trainer and will do anything to please her and prove he isn't worthless. He is not particularly smart or competent, however, which only enforces the incorrect general perception of him as worthless.

I've made the whole movie star thing a huge part of his character, that I'd have to make major changes to work around that, and I'd rather not. :/

We may be at a bit of an impasse then. Don't get me wrong, I think Andre Bellamy is a great character in his own right, but he doesn't seem fit for this RP. I can't ask you to change such a critical part of your character, especially if you'd rather not have to work around something like that, but I can say that despite the fact that I do like his character, I'll have to respectfully turn him down for this one.

With all this interest, it seems almost a shame to arbitrarily limit the player count to four. There's no guaranteeing even those four will stay (aside from the OP of course) so I would guess that being open and risking a few quitters would leave us at about four anyway. But you're the boss.

Name: Vincent Willow

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Personality: Vincent is a odd fellow. He is usually always in a book learning everything he can about the Pokémon world. He is very optimistic and usually can never see a negative to a given situation. Vincent tries to be analytic about any of his battles, but can get carried away and miss an obvious solution. Vincent towards others is variant depending on the person(of course) but usually their looks/actions is what he judges by. He will point out a mistake if existent, but does this in an attempt to for them to learn, not just to be mean. Vincent is quick to judge a battle, and can get a little upset at losing, but tries to play it off to show he's not.

Brief Bio: Vincent was originally from the Hoenn Region, more specifically Mossdeep City. As a child his parents always tried to get him to read books about Pokémon since they couldn't afford to send him to a Trainer School. Eventually Vincent's reading became a habit, and he spent most of his childhood reading and observing Tate and Liza's gym battles to learn some tactics. As such it was always Vincent's dream to face of against Liza and Tate and win, and attempt to go the Ever Grande League. Fortunately, his family gets a letter from some relatives stating she would love to have the family come over since Team Flare is no more.

Upon arriving in Kalos, however... Vincent had gotten sick. So for the first few weeks Vincent was in his house recovering and as such would look out of the window occasionally and notice the variety of Pokémon is much more diverse than Hoenn. Soon, once Vincent recovered, Vincent requested from his parents that he get all the Kalos Books. His parents, giving in to his wishes gave him some of the Kalos Books and Vincent since then dwells in his books. It is now the day Vincent gets a letter from Apple requesting his help for her research and he prepares his stuff to start his adventure with a few others on the quest for Apple.

Starter Pokemon: Marill
Starter's Personality: Vincent's soon to be Marill is a bit Quirky on the personality list as in it's personality definitely doesn't match her appearance. Marill is quick to be mischievous and tends to steal things from people's bags. This probably explains why Marill usually is in a Pokéball. Marill loves to fight and always radiant with energy as if she never runs out. Marill will be very frustrated if it faints(after she recovers of course) and will blame the trainer for her loss.

Name: Milo Cash

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Personality: Milo isn't socially awkward but more socially deprived sometimes finding it hard to continue a conversation or saying things he shouldn't. Though he has oddities to his social aspect he is caring and for those who make it past his awkwardness he'll love them from then till the end of time. Besides just the social depravity his actions don't make it easy as some would call them odd, even though to him they are just what he does.

Brief Bio: Milo wasn't actually born, more cloned and partially infused with pokemon DNA (giving him more perception into the pokemon world and odd human pokedex knowledge), but he doesn't know this yet as his family always treated him as a son just extremely protective of him. He had always been a little pampered when around the house so he spent a lot of time trying to be outside his most common escape being up a tree or on the roof. Milo always kept his family's Poocheyena with him, seeing them as his only true friend since everyone seemed to leave at ten years old besides him.

Eventually his parents disappeared no trace, no reason, nothing and worst of all they even took Poochyena. Milo at first waited and then eventually went to follow his dreams taking nothing with him, being independent and seeing the world.

Starter Pokemon: Seedot
Starter's Personality: Seedot is very protective and loyal to Milo, but can be a bit lax when Milo isn't in danger and theres no battles.

Seems you've been beaten to the punch. EDIT: I don't even know what to replace that statement with. Feeling stupid now that I remembered I accepted your CS already.

I'll add Vincent Willow to the hider now, but if you'd like I can contact you before anyone else when/if a spot opens up later on. I'll admit, Hiro, you had a close call and I almost said no.
Sorry Phoenix, but I had three reasons to decline you, which I'll keep undisclosed unless you'd really like to know.

That said, we now have four trainers. Work on the IC is due to begin temporarily.
