I was thinking of doing the same thing, kinda. I am planning a group sent to the holy lands, knights. Given a land about 3-5 thousand acres to command, to defend, to maintain and to manage. They live there and participate in skirmishes with raiders, renegade knights and muslims when the king or marshall or bishop commands it. I hope to introduce macro and micro management of the settlement that will hopefully grow into a small town itself and introduce politics and intrigue on the court

Ambitious undertaking, curious to see how it plays out should you garnish enough interest.

i have many ideas that i could implement, ofcourse the success of those also depends on the cooperation of the people involved because this wont be just background stuff going on, I will tend to involve the knights in almost every aspect of the life of their land. From guarding caravans carrying their own hard made goods to resolving possible feuds between the mixed religions of people living under their care.

ofcourse i am also open to input, if you guys think that's too much to handle just let me know

Though I hope to see this unfold, I would also have to be honest and say that what your planning wouldn't be for your average roleplayer, but moreso for those with particular interest in this period of time. Would it be possible that you might consider making this a Nations RP?, given the range of your stated ideals so far?

i was thinking that, but seeing as it focuses on one estate i dont think it fits into the NRP grouping

Ah ok, I mis-read your first post, I thought you meant each Knight would get 3-5 thousand acres.
Guess that's what I get for being half asleep and trying to read.

Alphonse stood in the gateway of the keep faced wih terrified peasants pleading "help us lord! Bandits have driven away cattle and killed the boys watching them!"

Alphonse summoned his brothers in arms to saddle up and follow him into the hunt. The squires rushed with swords and shields to arm their masters saddled up and waiting. Once under arms Alphonse led his brethren out into the open fields to find tracks and then to hunt the criminals down. The tracks themselves were easy enough to find and follow, by what the tracks indicated there was a dozen or more bandits and there was only six of them including Alphonse himself. The upper hand that was given was because all of them had expert training and battlefield experience.

It took them a little over an hour to catch up to the bandits and the first charge was made against them, the rabble that they were the bandits lost six men in the charge but circled and surrounded the knights. Steel clashed on steel and shields as brutal combat ensued, it lasted for about ten minutes before all of the criminals were cut down with polished steel.

Once the criminals were dead the task at hand was to round up the scattering cattle and dead men's horses. That task alone took them a better part of two hours, after that funerals were organised for the slain, even the bandits were buried with respect to the fact that they too were men even if criminals and murderers they were.

Thats the kind of mood im going for

Well, to me, this looks like an RP that can start with 3-4 people with room to add more as they come. I am interested, though. Just want to see the final product.

BTW, this also reminds me of city-builder games.
