Name: Eise Varia
Age: 20
Personality: The one thing you have to know about Eise is that he cannot be trusted under any circumstances. The second you think you know him, you find out you never knew him at all. On the outside he looks like a thug, and he uses that to scare people who need to be scared. Break through that layer and you’ll find a soft-hearted young man who just enjoys playing games and laughing with friends. Beneath that lies the powerful Eise who will fight with everything he has to protect those he cares about. But below all of that lies the criminal. Black Cat, the ruthless murderer and thief who would see all magicians dead and who attacks the guilty and the innocent alike. Which version is real? It depends on how much of Eise’s mind is his own at the time, and how much is the cat’s.
Magical powers/ Physical Abilities: Those investigating Black Cat think he’s some kind of aberrant spirit that’s forced its way back into the physical world. They aren’t far off. Eise is haunted by the powerful spirit of a black cat with a split tail, Kuro Nekomata. Black Cat is what happens when the cat’s spirit possesses Eise’s mind and body. No one knows how Black Cat does what it does. It appears without warning, being undetectable by any form of magic surveillance until right before it strikes. Most of the time it’s already gone again before anyone can react, having killed its target or stolen what it was after with blinding speed. The few times Black Cat’s target survived have proved incredibly valuable sources of information on the criminal’s powers. It moves like his namesake, impossibly fast, and is stronger than any human, not even slowing down after having an entire stone building collapse on top of it. It acts like a ghost in many regards: ignoring the laws of physics, passing through solid objects to get to his prey, disappearing and reappearing unpredictably. It kills his victims with its claws and its tongue; the claws ripping through magical defenses like paper, its tongue flaying skin and flesh just as easily. So far every attempt to capture or kill Black Cat have resulted in failure. The most damage done to it was from a mundane machine gun being fired into its stomach at close range. Despite covering the entire roadway with its neon blue blood and forcing the criminal to flee, upon resurfacing two weeks later it showed no sign of injury.
Flaws: He actively attacks some of the strongest people in the magical world and steals from incredibly powerful individuals, magical and not. To say he has enemies would be the understatement of the century. You would have a difficult time finding somebody that doesn’t want to see Black Cat’s head separated from its body. Eise also has no say in whether or not Kuro grants him magic or suddenly takes over his body by force. He’s kind of powerless to resist the possession. Even when Kuro does give Eise magic without possessing him, Eise has to use it without anyone who sees being able to draw a parallel between him and the criminal. His mind is under constant strain from being kept under the spirit's influence continuously, making him prone to headaches, dizzy spells, and mild hallucinations at times.
Side: Himself (There isn’t a side left that doesn’t want to see him dead.)
Bio: Eise grew up in a loving home with his parents and siblings: a brother two years younger than himself and a sister three years younger than that. None had any magical talent whatsoever, but it didn’t matter very much to them. His life was completely normal.
Everything changed when the fi- Wait, wrong canon. Everything changed when he ran over a cat coming home from a friend’s place one night. Eise saw that the cat was beyond saving and suffering, so he killed it quickly and buried it off the road. Those actions are what let the evil spirit in, and it hasn’t loosened its hold since. Eise doesn’t know why Kuro Nekomata hates magi so much, but for some reason the cat is furious at all magic users. How much it hates each user depends on their strength. It’s bloodlust for the strongest of magi is so strong that it takes over Eise just to try to kill them, but it seems to simply ignore weaker magical people.
Eise was horrified at what he’d done after the first possession, but the cat’s hold on his mind is great. He doesn’t know how the cat has been influencing his mind the entire time since that first night, making him compliant, less likely to oppose the spirit. It’s gone on for years now, and Eise’s mind has been so influenced by the cat that it’s as if he is the one who hates magicians. The most Eise has done of his own volition is separate himself from his family. He got an apartment in the city, away from them. If he’s caught, he doesn’t want them to become involved. And he doesn’t dare hunt near those he couldn’t kill; his possessed mind finds it too difficult to tell friend from foe. Whenever Eise needs money, he takes a job from the black market that coincides with one of his prey. Two birds with one stone. And if there are no good jobs worth taking, he just steals what he needs. No barriers or walls can keep the Black Cat out. No force of will can keep it in.
