for I wanted to give mine a different weapon xD

Well... I wanted to give my character two of these:

Steve's weapon

But ofcourse, if it isn't allowed, then I shall think wich one I'll take :)

You could use it but it is more of a ranged weapon then an up close one but you can use it if you really want to. I think an up close weapon would be needed as well but that is up to you if you want to just have the one weapon you chose.

Actually this weapon can be used for both :)
if you know how to, because those who use this weapon and master it can use it for both ends :) thats the fun part of this weapon, and he woudn't have to need any other then :)
Unless you truelly want an ranged and close weapon seperatly ;)

Watch Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Kamen Rider Gaim, Arrow.

All of them feature a bow as a primary weapon also used as a melee weapon.

I am going to change my last post to have my character choosing the bow instead. Added a little bit more to her dialogue at the end.
