Physical Characteristics and Appearance:

General Species Photo

Chitin is equivalent to a humanoid version of the common insect. A similar species with an independant higher learning and sentient thought process. The average Chitin weighs usually no more than 180lbs and can vary in height between 5'-7'. Variances between male and female only differ in antannae length and size of thorax (females often have larger thorax) colors vary between mostly earthly tones but can sometimes have high saturations of Indigo, yellows, or red. Chitin do not have skin, instead they are covered in a layered shell epidermal resembling the flexibility and hardness of the human fingernail. The series of shell like "Armor" is connected via a very thin membrane reinforced by muscle tissue and tough ligaments. The shells themselves are extremely resilient to heat and freezing temperatures they also tend to be hard and flex like fiberglass, absorbing heavy blows before taking back to original shape. The armor is weak against sharp objects so a knife in the belly would quickly kill a chitin although a flamethrower might just aggrivate it.

The anatomy of Chitin are similar in regards to human appendages and internal organ location with only minor variation and a much more robust digestive system. Able to break down and digest pretty much anything it considers "edible" the average Chitin strength varies but has reported to average roughly 2x their own bodyweight and still retain nimble mobility. Lack of internal bone structure (instead lay a intricate weave of muscle fibers reinforced by the external "armor") proves the Chitin to remain lightweight and quite agile in nature. That being said, the average running speed does not differ from a human male in his prime.

The unique feature of the Chitin anatomy is their immune system. Chitin do not get sick, they do not grow I'll or are born with birth defects, a Chitin if unharmed will keep on living until they either bleed to death or the brain is crushed. The black blood of Chitin seem to be composed of a type of chemical composition that "Adapts" to any disease it encounters. There are no variation in blood types either so all Chitin have this trait. The Black Blood is often rumored to be the "miracle cure all" that scientists sought after for its extremely adaptable immune system. This Black blood is what originally put them on the intergalactic map as well as almost eradicated their entire species (similar story to that of the Dodo bird) Illegal "Farming" of the Chitin resulted in black market tradings and abductions of younglings. (More explained in game)

Royal Guard Armor

The Armor of the Royal guard are an actual physical part of the Chitin soldier wearing it.Technically a Biological Exo-suit. Upon birth, the younglings instantly judged into either being a Soldier, a Worker, or a Bearer. Soldiers have the birthing membrane that what originally encased them at childbirth as a larvae stored and bio-engineered into a living suit of armor. The membrane grows layers upon layers of Chitin "Skin" over time, forming a hard shell that conforms and adapts to the owners body over time. Originally taking shape of a chestpiece and slowly grows over the soldier as he trains. Years of training help the membrane form to its owner and in turn the owner gets a self adapting second skin. The process is long but worth it. Every soldier gains a custom fitted suit of armor that only they can use. The armor is non sentient but is technically alive and capable of self repair over time. Elder soldiers are often seen with overgrown suits of armor with pauldrons arching upwards and horns growing out of various places. Just like a human fingernail, the armor never stops growing and can somewhat show the rank of a soldier at a glance.

Jawbreaker

Bio-engineered and technically grown these blades are a living organism that actually grows over time. The spines along its back are hard like steel and just as sharp granting a very sharp cutting edge but the Jawbreakers main feature is.... yup, its Jaw. Able to latch on and bite down on whatever it pleases with immense force and jagged teeth. Since its alive it also needs to eat, therefore whatever it catches in its jaws are sometimes consumed and processed in its stomach. This blade is quite literally a bloodthirsty blade. Its hefty weight and length (roughly 3 feet long with jaws that open up to 2 feet wide) gaurantee whatever it hits is likely dead.

Stinger

The stinger is actually a physical claw harvested from the fingers of the Xenomanti. A ferocious beast that one is required to hunt at a Chitin's coming of age cerimony. One is to trap the beast and cut one of its claws off its many tendrils. Keeping the remaining claw as a dagger to signify themselves in becoming a warrior. Rin managed to cut off the entire tendril therefore instead of just a dagger, he fashoned himself a sharp tipped whip in which can stretch and impale quite far (10feet).Rin often combines Stingers attacks with the Jawbreaker.

Prawn

Basically a bio-pistol that shoots tiny spines infused with a potent acid. Does little damage but is armor piercing. Holds 50 rounds of ammo but cannot be reloaded. These are considered "Disposable" and Rin will often carry two Prawns on his person at a time.

Unique Abilities: The antennae atop Chitin heads often work as a local personal radar. Not in a technical way but as in a biological "sixth sense" that warn them of an impending danger instinctually. (Think how a fly always dodges your hand) This only works in a small area around them resulting in most Chitin being extremely good close range fighters. A Chitin can lose these antannae and still be perfectly fine, they just lose that ESP.

Fun fact* Chitin can lose their head and still go on fighting for an hour.

Skillset: Rin prefers up close and personal tactics. Melee weapons and hand to hand are his specialty but always carries two pistols or a basic rifle usually as backup. Being a member of the royal guard is not just a nameplate, its a position of honor and responsibility that requires extreme training in extremely hazardous conditions. He is skilled at survival and extremely enduring in places considered unliveable otherwise.

Weaknesses: Sensitive to high pitches and bright flashes of light. An alarm going off nearby can cause Rin to lose his concentration and flashbangs can actually possibly kill him. He also has a strict set of rules he goes by based around honor and loyalty. This can prove problematic when it comes to moral choices.

I'm still working on ways in which to represent vent systems on a map, so in this case, the entire facility is ventilated through the floor; all vent chutes lead to the same coolant engine. So basically, nothing you can crawl through. Not in this one :)
