Matthew walked across the open green fields, his eyes searching for a friend in what appeared to be a world of foes.
His large wooden axe rested upon his back adding weight to his already large frame. Brown torn cotton graced his feet,
tied on with plain string. It wasn't much, but it was more than most. Cobbles around the town were usually adorned with
blood red stains from the people of the village who had next to nothing.
This wasn't always the case. Matthew had grown up in a different world. A world filled with delicacies, renewable energy
and happiness. Before Astaroid Catatonia hit, Matthew would have never imagined the horror the survivors would face.
Matthew raised his right arm, pulling in behind his head as he reached for his axe. Before him was a field full of prey and predators.
In order to survive, the humans had had to focus on becoming the predators.
Matthew was particularly good at hunting although his body visibly shown signs of defeat on occasion. A large oval shaped
scar adorned his arm, tiger fangs had once buried themselves amongst his skin in an attempt to feed.
Matthew stood tall on the field. Bringing the axe down slowly he crept towards a lion that appeared to have
been abandoned from the pack. As he advanced forward, the lion bared its teeth before slowly rising to its feet.
Strutting to the right, the Lion appeared to be neither moving towards or away from Matthew.
Seeing his opportunity, Matthew picked up his pace now breaking into a sprint before hurling his body at the wild cat.
The lion responded by swiping its paw against his cheek, liquid blood smeared across it's golden fur.
William buried the axe straight into the animals back. As the axe hit, it gave a large roar before falling to the floor.
William regained his composure quickly and reexamined his prey. The lion appeared to be conscious but unable to move.
A pang of guilt pulled at Williams heart as he realised he had severed the animals spinal cord.
Pushing his feelings aside, William delivered a final blow to the animals head before replacing his axe and hauling the animal
onto his back. William knew by the weigh of the animal that this would do well to feed his family tonight, and having not eaten for
five days, they certainly needed it.
