EDIT: And here is a list of a few original ideas I have had.
The premise of the story.
Long ago the world was inhabited by men and a race known as the spirits. Just like with people
spirits were many and varied. However, over time the spirits began to decline and fade into history
as humanity marched forward the spirits dwindled. In desperation they used their power to preserve them
selves. Now there are those in the world that are born as Artists. A very special type of human
that can perceive the marks that the spirits exist as. They can also detect the other type of human.
They are known as the Marked. The Marked are able to have a spirit drawn onto their skin by
an Artist. While most of this is a mystery, include how the spirits exist until they are place onto
a marked as a tattoo, the benefits of being a Marked are many.
Each Mark that one of the Marked ones bears not only contains a spirit, but gives the
recipient a powerful ability. However, each ability has a downside, and as a marked gets more marks
technology fails around him more and more. The most marks any Marked has been able to have is four,
though there are rumors of those that have five. This is highly unlikely as the body can only
house so many spirits at a time.
When Marked and Artists suddenly start disappearing all over the world the marked begin to question the mass disappearances.
Thats where we come in, Basically our characters will be going to visit, meet, or otherwise contact a Marked or Artist friend only to find their home or place of business
destroyed. From there we would track down the clues and eventually meet. Probably pretty quick actually, maybe mutual friend?
anyway, after that I have rough ideas on what happens, but nothing solid. I know a man named Melchior is trying to revive the most powerful evil spirit that ever existed. Cause he worships it. Details can be hashed out later.
You wake up in a small cell with no memory of who you are, where you came from,
or even why you are here. Your memory is complete blank. Trying to remember how to
you slowly raise and observe your surroundings. The room is solid stone all around
except for a 3X2 inch hole in the ceiling that is covered with bars to let air in
and a door that is made out of some type of metal stuff.
Walking over to the door and looking out of the tiny barred hole you see a lone guard
walking by...
In your confusion you yell at him asking him why you are here, who he is, and what is going on.
He walks over and slams the butt of his rifle at the bars you are holding on to grazing your
hand. He tells you to shut up and starts to walk off. Deep inside of you, you feel something
stirring. You are confused, hurt, but most of all...you're furious.
In an instant a thought crosses your mind. 'I wish I could just reach out and
stab him!' Suddenly something bursts from your upper arm whipping out and literally stabbing
the guard in the neck. Shocked you look at your arm. Protruding from it is a 4 foot long
spike that appears to be made of bone. Almost as quick as it appeared it slides back in to
your arm seamlessly. Walking back you lean against the wall and look at your arm. Though
it was somewhat painful coming out of your arm, after that initial shock it felt fine.
But even with your lack of memory you can tell something is different...maybe
not wrong, but definitely not normal. You're no longer human...if you ever even really were...
The story/game would be based around one or more persons that find
themselves trapped in a high security medical base where they have been
experimented on. Now they are not only trying to escape, but learn what has
happened to them.
Each of the people trapped inside, the ones in the story/game anyway,
all have one special ability in common. It is called 'Adapt'. Later on it will
be revealed that 'Adapt' is able to change their body and mind based
upon how they act and what they either need or desire. However, after each
'Adaptation' your skills become more and more narrow in nature, opposed to when
you first adapt you can adapt in anyway you can think of, at least that is what the
scientist have been able to tell...
As the story progresses the prisoners will get stronger. Whenever they get noticeably
stronger (essentially Level Up) they are able to either remember more of their past, make their
current powers stronger, or Adapt and gain another ability. Most of the time you can only do one,
occasionally you can do two.(every second or third level)
the top was a power example and I shall now list a few others so you have some ideas.
One character will have the ability to create more bones, manipulate them,
and use them as weapons.
Another will develop psychic abilities. Mind control and even be able
to kill some one with his mind.
And the last... a superior strength and affinity to stone.
There might possibly be another that was experimented on and has a
very different skill set. One that is entirely too hard to classify. Venomous stingers,
ability to see through walls, high speed, among others...
One that can move through objects, can turn invisible, fade like mist. very water
like abilities. non-confrontational type.
anyway, those are some ideas anyway...
Also, I had a plot thingy in mind for why our characters will be more focused on than any other escaped experiments. To explain let me give some info...
Most experiments have a compatibility rating with Adapt on a scale of 0% to 100%, but a very, very few (maybe just one) have and Adapt compatibility of over 300%.
The story revolves around the children of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
In this story the history that the riders are going to help destroy the world some day is false,
as through out history the horsemen have kept the world from complete destruction
many times.
Growing up each of us will have an absent parent figure. (Surprise! Cliche, but actually has to happen. Though other parent could have re-married...)
Point in case Your characters Father, or mother for that matter was one of the Four Horsemen that protect the world.
However, during the last Generation of horsemen The Plague Rider betrayed the other three. (Open to hear ideas...)
After killing Famine and War he finally faced off against Death. Even though Death was able to kill Plague Plague still managed to infect him with every disease known to man which killed him in minutes.
My idea for why Plague turned is a Dark Relic. (ya, I made that up...) ancient objects that can grant phenomenal powers which were left over from the far past. Only downside is they twist and control your mind eventually turning you into their puppet. anyone who has a Dark Relic long enough will eventually become it's thrall and begin what is basically a mission to eradicate humanity.
So after all the horsemen died a man discovered a Dark Relic of massive power. It granted him the power to bring back the dead and control them. (yep, bit cliche, but open to ideas.) anyway, whilst the horsemen were dead he grew in power and now that the new horsemen are starting to gain powers the Dark Relic warns him of danger.
So, that is an idea... kinda basic, but eh.
In a world where the goverment is hunting down anyone who disagrees with it's
tyranical leader a young revolutionary helps lead a rebellion against the tyrants.
But when he gets shot and assumed dead that all changes. floating down a small river
he washes up on shore and is saved by a most unusual being. When he wakes up a second
conciousness is with in him and claims to have healed him. When he asked who the intruder is
he tells him he is a white soul.
White souls and black souls. tranquility and chaos.
White souls seek calm people and places, where black souls seek chaos, activity and
busy exciting people.
the reason the white soul joined with him was because he would have died without aid, and
white souls are nothing if not compassionate.
And in return for staying in his body it offers to help him in any way it can.
Now heading back to the rebel HQ through enemy territory he and Argo, the white soul. will
have to work together to survive.
Basically we would play as rebels trying to take down the tyrant. You can have a black soul, white soul, or be a soulless. (just yourself)
Also just to note the souls would basically grant powers to some extent.
Example: White souls can increase your natural regeneration,or send out a calming aura which could potentially be powerful enough to put people to sleep. You get the drift.
Black Souls on the other hand could increase your reflexes, your speed, and strength. They could send out an aura of discord to make people upset, angry, or potentially homicidal.
both types of souls could help you last longer with out food, water, or sleep. Eventually once you and the soul were more in sync you could cause them to manifest in a corporeal form. I.E. they could block bullets, move through a wall to open a door or activate a switch, they could theoretically manifest on you as armor or a weapon.
Ideas are more than welcome.
When someone is about to die a reaper almost always takes there soul,
thus causing the death. Generally reapers target the older, weaker,
and such, as it is their job to control the population as Death.
However, sometimes humans bodies become incapacitated
with the souls still inside, in other words they die without a reaper
getting their soul, though technically they didn't die since they
still have a soul in them. These bodies with the souls left in
them soon come up from the ground as what modern culture has
termed 'Zombies'. Though these 'Zombies' don't seek out humans
and eat their brains, they are exceedingly violent and destructive
as the soul trapped inside is terribly confused and agitated.
On another note Reapers are recruited based on the strength
of a living humans soul. when a reaper finds a human with a fairly
strong soul they often confront them and ask if they would wish to
a Reaper. A specter that lives forever and has amazing powers,
only strings attached are that you have to help the community
of Reapers to keep the population from exploding by acting as
Death.
If they chose to join then they just have to want to be a Reaper, and
then the Reaper changing them gives them an influx of spirit energy...
Then they change.
When a person changes into reaper they gain a few abilities.
Most namely of them is the fact they can chose to either be in a place
as their spirit or as their physical form. Reapers are able to shift
from Spiritual form to physical form at will, though doing it too much
is tiring.
They are also able to turn others into reapers, however
if this is attempted and the beings soul is too weak they will cease to
exist.
As a side note some reapers have actually discovered how to
turn some animals to reaper versions of themselves. These are usually
kept as pets, though the higher ups in the community of death
frown upon doing so, as they don't know what effect this may have
the world.
Also, when you become a reaper you naturally have a spirit
form and a scythe, these are based on your soul strength and
who you are. No two reapers scythes are the same.
Cecil McAlister, a newly recruited reaper learns about a plot to
over throw the current leader of the reapers, known as Death.
After working together with his mentor and friend
Travis Allwood, they discover that the Reaper Rebellion is seeking
to over throw Death, the first reaper to ever exist. When they
interrogate one of the rebellious reapers they discover that they
are actually trying to stop Death from absorbing the souls of the dead,
which they claim he has been doing for thousands of years now.
As all reapers have been told, the golden rule of being a reaper is to
never consume the soul of another. No one has ever asked why, and the Rebels
claim that Death put the rule in place to stop any other reapers from
taking the souls he wanted for himself, not to mention the consuming of
souls gives you immense power, which he didn't want to have any rivals
obtaining.
After learning about this, Cecil and Travis join the rebellion,
swaying many reapers loyal to Death to join with them.
The Gifted as they have been called by the general public, a ploy to make them seem exceptional and more
socially acceptable, are a rapidly grow population of humans with extra ordinary powers.
Though no one seems to be able to understand why, or even how that fact still remains that they are
increasing in numbers and power. Most however are still young, with the oldest of them being
only in their mid-thirties.
Due to the increasing nature of the gifted is was decided that they must be
controlled and trained. Since hauling them all off to some secret compound would lead to a scandal with the world at large
they instead set up different schools all across the country and made it mandatory for Gifted to join.
Though the people that created the schools intend to use them more for control and observation the Gifted them selves
actually enjoyed it there. A place where they could be among those who were like themselves.
Where, for the most part, they were free from the persecutions brought on by many in the outside world.
